Rossi to retire within the next 5 years

The quote about him leaving if JB retires is in the Murray Walker interview Rossi did for the BBC at Donny.

I can't see Rossi doing anything else. He's flirted with F1 and WRC but I think he's too old to change to a different motorsport. Besides that fact, he's got all the motivation he needs now with Stoner, Hayden, Pedrosa and next year Lorenzo to contend with. A few more world titles against these young stars is surely all he needs.
PS Why would Rossi ever say anything bad about ducati? He is Italian after all. I would love to see him go to one more manufacturer and win a title with them. To me that would truly confirm his absolute greatness!

It's quite confusing and it's all bs and nothing to take any notice of.
I actually don't mind them complaining a bit but it should be recognised that they all do it on occasion. It must take unshakeable self-belief to perform at this level.

I don't think Stoner has much to complain about this season, as long as people give him some credit, which you obviously do. Recent talk of his bike last season changing overnight (??by electronic means) seems quite far-fetched. However, I think it is very plausible that in the second half of last season when he did most of his falling that Honda were not particularly keen to give the satellite teams help to go faster and hence possibly take points away from their factory riders when they started to be threatened by Rossi.

Rossi complained at the end of last year that his tyres felt different on Sundays to how they performed in qualifying, so maybe its a Michelin thing.

I doubt very much that anything was actually being changed overnight, its more likely that the equipment he had was very sensitive to small changes in conditions, or just that his head wasn't quite right and it was rider error.

So very true. Of course some are better with the press than others, but they all complain in one way or the other.

They tend to complain less when they win, strange eh? ;-)
I havn't heard any of that talk. Linky?

Nah, I think his main problem was that he couldn't adapt to the Honda/Michelin front. Being a rookie, and knowing that he could be fast and all, made him want too much and crash a lot. Haydens bike were better in that regard, the others strugled but as this year Pedrosa were the best at working around it.

Not in the premier class but they have had success elsewhere;

125cc - 1969 - Dave Simmonds (GBR)

250cc - 1978, 1979 - Kork Ballington (South Africa)
1980, 1981 - Anton Mang (Ger)

350cc - 1978, 1979 - Kork Ballington (South Africa)
1981, 1982 - Anton Mang (Ger)

500cc/MotoGp - Nil

i would be surprised if he stayed another 5 years, i thought he would go at the end of 08 season.
he has probably just said this to appease the Italian press

still think he will reite after a Ducati ride,

At the mo there is no need for him to betray Yamaha and leave when Ducati already have Stoner.

If stoner moves within the next few years we might see Vale on a red machine.

i can only hope

i believe he turned down ducati because of the amount of pr they expect there riders to do, he also said he would spend the rest of his career on the yam.
only time will tell i suppose

We essentially agree about Stoner last year in that he threw the bike down the road several times trying for the podium rather than settling for 7th or 8th; this could have been a sign of incipient greatness or the road to oblivion. I still contend he started the season with a second rate Honda and finished with a third rate Honda and I don't think anyone is going to win a world championship anytime soon with a satellite Honda.

I think he will retire when he wins another world championship which will be less than 5 years.

quite right i remeber hearing that

also he states that he fancied the idea of a red ride but the team were very much like honda and the bike will always come first and the rider will have to adapt to the bike not the other way round.

like you said time will tell
