Rookie Question

It was applied to doohan prior to rossi, with one of the other honda riders who finished 2nd to him saying it was equivalent to a win. not sure whether it was previously applied to others as well.

Thanks for correcting my utterly made up ........

Well fan's of rider 1 don't necessarily have to like of rider 2, and certainly vice-versa.......I never said the 'Haters' were unique to Rossi at all, I believe you are implying this, I also never excused myself from being a part of this bunch either, to rebut your next point.......

I don't believe it does, however it can cause involuntary bowel movements in cases where the subject has a weak mind, these movements often lead to an instantaneous loss of the front end

Exhibit A; Max Biaggi

Exhibit B; Sete Gibernau

Exhibit C; Casey Stoner

Exhibit D; Jorge Lorenzo

In some cases it can also cause permanent loss of function of the 'Frontal Lobe' section of the brain, thus depriving these subjects of the ability to accurately control emotions, memory, language, initiation, judgement, impulse control, and social and sexual behavior. Thus giving way to a much more fictional, creative way of thinking

Very influential man that Mr Rossi........

I wasn't really having a major go at you, just replying in kind, and couldn't let you mislead a naive new poster (smile). ( I can't do emoticons on this computer).

I was not calling you out on missing one.......I just did not want CV to be forgotten!!

I had forgotten Capirossi's race win involved water as well!!

I had tallied Dovi and CV, i totally forgot about Loris

Thanks for correcting my utterly made up ........

I was being pedantic; basically when alien was used in the singular for doohan it was as everyone has been saying in the more modern context, that the rider who finished 2nd was counting it as a win since he had beaten everyone human.

I had tallied Dovi and CV, i totally forgot about Loris

not hard to do these days....if he did not have articles about his injuries or crash/DNF tally, many people probably would not know he was even still in GP racing!!

Ok, rookie question #2

Why are the teams so limited with testing time? And how long has it been this way?

The set up as is seems assinine to me.

Welcome btw

Aliens out of this world type thing think Colin and others mentioned it bit like the (GOAT) Greatest Of All Time (Vale) < guaranteed < bopp

the four are another step up from other motogp riders as such

maybe we might get a fifth in the club if pies can barge his way into a regular top 4 finish

Grid size is another long story rules format thing

Kawasaki credit crunched out and the 2007 move to 800.cc aint helped

the days of numerous privateers has gone

privateers getting a ROC Chassis and sticking a motor in it are over even next yr's grid is not set

the new rules in 2012 may help theres still a lot to be sorted who's in and who's out

boppers yeah Jum BM Talpa etc etc etc will point the odd one or two out to ya.
<

You forgot the "BOPPER HATERS" That's the new one that's coming around... Its people who just like to hate the people who are bopping... Lol

So that lets say Honda (deep pockets) can't spend more time(money) than Ducati on testing?

No sir. Dorna has made a limit on testing for all factories. But of course with many exceptions in the rules. For example, rookies can test. Karel Abraham, a rookie on a satellite Ducati, is now testing at Jerez, while factory riders, are prohibited. The next test where all the factories can participate is at Sepang in a couple of months. I say exceptions because last year, Suzuki, being a factory, was treated like a satellite team, and were allowed rookies to be signed, were as other factories were prohibited from signing rookies. yes, its all very complicated. But the magic is, at the end of the day, people will go on thinking GP is a level playing field and believe Dorna, the governing body, is acting on the sports best interest. The idea behind the limitations is to keep cost down. Yes, Honda might be able to pay for extra testing time, but perhaps Suzuki can't (or won't) so the idea is, if they limit the time, then this will even out the playing field. Of course, part of this is a moot point, since Suzuki is now a one man team, with no rookies and no satellite teams.

Got a few more for ya:

Haydenettes- for the fans who wine and complain about Nicky getting shafted(real or fictional).

Stoner boners-for the fans who blindly follow Stoner but mostly a term for all of us who have had a good look at Adriana.

Squid- (Hopper, Killio, Deangilis, BarryMachine) People who cant really ride a bike for .....

The munuto- the championship after the championship is over for the remaining rounds. The riders take this very seriously!!
<

Up yours !!! Haydenettes forever !!!!!

Doohan was never referred to as an "alien" back in the day, he was always known as "the master".

The original contemporary usage of the term "alien" stemmed from Rossi saying that Stoner was "from another world", during a winning streak he had in 07 or 08.

It has since been used in retrospectives on the likes of Doohan etc. but was not a term "of the day"

So why is not a level playing field? At least as it relates to this.

How long has it been this way?

And thanks everyone for the excelent responses so far in this thread.

It isn't a level playing field because teams like Suzuki get extra engines to keep them competative. They are allowed to sign Rookies, which other factory teams are not. Dorna financially subsidizes the careers of riders from key markets to widen the commercial appeal of the sport, even if the riders are not necessarily there on merrit. Also if you chose to believe it, Dorna negotiated Bridgestone tyres for Rossi to get him equipment he otherwise would not have had.
