Redding

Did anyone else hear Moody and Ryder saying something about Dunlop bringing new rubber here during Quallie?

They said something but I didn't fully catch what they said.

Kropo do you know anything about this?

Yes, Dunlop have a new tire here. Brought to solve the issues with tire degradation which have appeared recently. If you've seen the pictures of everyone's destroyed tires, you'll understand why. They have a new tire to deal with the Kalex chassis, which is loading the tire more than last year.

And obviously, it's fitted with a passport detection system....

Bit disappointing to see him in 13th. Unless he gets a rocket start, it could be a matter of damage limitation.

Agreed.  But his twitter feed this morning states he feels more confident - so perhaps his team have been burning the midnight oil to work out the problems he had in qualifying

It seems to me that those who have to come through from back on the grid (or a bad start) seem to have less tyre left when they do get near the front. Perhaps if they have a more resilient tyre now, that effect (if it actually exists) will be lessened.

Also, given that Takaaki clearly can ride well on whatever tyre he's on, if he's on the new tyre will this help him maintain speed throughout the race? We'll find out soon.

Agreed.  Naka san can't be too far away from a deserved Moto2 win

Now I know the tyres weren't doing so well, with some serious delamination going in, but introducing a new tyre mid-season seems a good way to derail set-ups. Did the teams have a chance to run proper tests? or was the situation dire enough for it to be better just to introduce them?

Very exciting when Redding went past on Espargaro, but it seems he'd taken a bit too much out of his tyres getting there. Maybe.

As I understand it the new tyre was an extra the riders could test and if liked then run it in the race.

The usual options were available.

Sure, but the choice seems a familiar set up and risk of chunking or a new set up and better wear.

Though I'm probably overstating it

Everyone knows it already, but this seems to be the right thread to state/discuss it:

Redding is going to MotoGP on the Gresini Honda Production Racer in 2014.

So Redding will be riding a bike that looks like this?

FFS what a .... livery.
