I am only 38 days too old to enter the Red Bull contest. Would have saved me thousands as I try to make it to Moto GP in AMA's.

MotoGP is a long way off for any rider starting out, even the Red Bull rookies. You`re obviously just starting out with the whole racing thing, and I won`t pretend I can give you advice based on experience, as Ive never set foot on the actual tarmac of a racetrack, but after listening to rider interviews and out of common sense I can tell you that you shouldn`t even think about MotoGP right now. It`s a long way off and the reality is you will probably never get there. That`s no reason not to try, it`s not impossible, but for your own good, you should concentrate on what`s immediatley in front of you. Try to enjoy yourself, because that`s what racing at a non-professional level is about. Work on your current season, because if you can`t do well there you`ll never get to the GP. Don`t let it distract you. concentrate on what`s happening now, not what might happen in the future. If you make it to motoGP, then that`s great, but don`t set your heart on it. Take it as it comes, and focus on the present.

I'm not doing it, stuff it. Think of how much it costs to buy your own leathers, boots, gloves, road-legal helmet and the flight to Valencia all for nothing?

I'm going to just start out at Motocross, much more my style as I ride a quad.

never fear kiddo ... go resonably well in AMA and you'll pay it all off ... then u can move somewhere when the exchange rate is good and can live the high life..

AMA pays well as i learnt.... ahhhhhhhh

mate, no matter what ur doing riding .... you're gonna have to fork out for that gear one day ... maybe not the trip to valencia. but no one will let u out on a track without decent gear on .... even i have a set of leathers and i dont ride, im just a pillion

I've got everything barring the one piece suit and that's just for riding around town. The one piece suit will probably be a purchase made in another year or two.

For sure. Alpinestars for life.

+ i'm only 14 years old and if I badly injure myself (which is highly likely for a rookie) then I could miss out on the great things in the rest of my life...or even worse.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (richo @ Jul 27 2006, 11:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Then track days Ooost? Might need somthing a bit more stonky than the baby ninja, though.
Yeah, track days are next on the list of things to do. Not sure if it will be with the baby Ninja though. Funds are pretty low at the moment so it's nothing but dreaming at this point.

I presume that you have a 250? I think this is a great machine, even for the track. If you do get say a 600 you will be use to the high rpm's, and keeping it there.

Yeah, I'm still adjusting to having the powerband higher in the revs. I prefer having power everywhere but you take what you can get.

I have always wanted to race but now I am too old. There are track days everywhere. I can still partake in schools and track days but not AMA or better.

What's wrong with Alpinestars? That's all I own as well....
