MotoGP grid sizes "a joke" - Stoner

it's pathetic, it's a joke," Stoner said. "It needs to be like the grids of the old days with 25.

Well said Casey,

We were waiting more than a minute every lap to see the bikes again, and i felt in sleep several times. I decided not to go there again if it remains like this.

I was dissapointed by all 3 races tbh. 125 wasnt like I remembered it to be from last year. I had high expectations of moto2 but it was very disapointing imo. dont get me started about motogp. add to that temperatures above 30 degrees, no wind... it wasnt bearable!! if this isnt going to change Im not going next year. I actually fell asleep on friday during quali!!!!!!!!

dont think I need to make another topic about what I did and didnt do this year, so figured this little bit of info is enough
<
I did had a good time despite the races. met some people from south africa, very enthousiastic people. they were so excited, the guy told me he couldnt sleep at night cause of the TT, and this was on FRIDAY.

watched football on the jupiler square with a couple of hundred people on thursdaynight

I especially like what he said he about the whining over 2 or 3% difference in customer bikes

and his reminding us that in the 500 days riders were out there battling on two and three year

old bikes. I remember those days well - but had forgotten. Having small "privateer" teams on

older bikes gives those riders time and experience they need to come up to speed on the

better bikes. A greater number of experienced riders is good for the breed in general. The

idea that they crush the bikes after a year or two is grotesque; a symptom of the malaise

of effete-ness that has replaced the "rugged" quality of MotoGP racing that was so exciting

during the 500cc era.

and the race i guess??? nobody posted a seperate race thread? oh well assen was not as good as silverstone or past races but they all can't be great... unfortunately. funny thing is even the moto2 race & 125s were abit........... hmmm............spread out................. well on to catalunya!

Oh my god, Pete the bass agrees with Stoner!

I never thought I'd hear myself say this but in my opinion, whether Rossi is racing or not, GP is on a hiding to nothing. Laughably small grids, and a formula that is making it impossible for privateers to run competatively. Ive been a GP fan since Sheene, and loved the prototype formula for years, but it's dissapearing up it's own .... If your not one of the top four, why bother? Weve seen domination before, and I'm a Lorenzo fan, so I should be happy, but I just find it hard to get excited for race weekends now. Ive never really been interested in WSBK before, apart from Lil John, Edwards, Corser and a handful of others, it's been the guy with the factory Duke and a supporting cast. Now all the manufacturers are up at the pointy end, and the racing is awesome. And you don't get points just for turning up, unlike GP at the moment.

Unless things change I'm afraid I'm moving towards the dark side, the bottom line is, I'm a bike racing fan, and I think GP is in danger of becoming totally irrelevant. They have ...... with the formula way too much. 800s were a knee jerk to safety, and now they dunno what to do next. Ive got no idea, but I do know I get more out of watching WSBK, WSS and Moto2.

Yes we hadn't a good chance with the 125 and moto 2 ieder. I was also looking forward to moto2, but unfortunatly it wasn't that exiting, but at least the number of bikes helped me from falling in sleep. What a hot weather it was, I have both my hands and legs burnt by the sun badly.

but any way i also had a nice time there, and found also a few friends who were very happy with receiving an invite from me for a website.

The number of Lorenzo fans are growing more and more, and it was nice to see some frinds and couples who suported Rossi and Lorenzo (one in Rossi clothes and the other in Lorenzo's) together.

I cant guess which one you are on that photo, since there are more than a few pretty girls/ladies in there.
<
if you send another one on friday after Brasil - Netherlands, then it may become easier to recognize you.

Here's the difference (from crash.net) between motogp and wsbk as they have both raced at assen on the same circuit this year:

Yamaha

MotoGP: YZR-M1 1m 34.626s (Lorenzo)

WSBK YZF-R1 1m 36.472s (Toseland)

Difference: 1.846s

Honda

MotoGP: RC212V 1m 34.525s (Pedrosa)

WSBK CBR1000RR 1m 36.312s (Rea)

Difference: 1.787s

Ducati

MotoGP: Desmosedici GP10 1m 34.761s (Stoner)

WSBK 1198R 1m 36.413s (Checa)

Difference: 1.652s

Suzuki

MotoGP: GSV-R 1m 36.219s (Capirossi)

WSBK 1198R1m 36.452s (Haslam)

Difference: 0.233s

...bet suzuki are hoping for the 1000cc rule change!

Which goes to show how ...... the WSBK race tires are. In Qualifying, there was only 1/2 second between Rea and the top GP bike. Lorenzo lost a 6/10ths from Q to race, Rea lost almost 2 seconds

yeah the number of lorenzo fans are growing. I have to say, in the past I really didnt liked him. I was sooooo glad he didnt planted his flag on dutch ground a couple of years a go, but this year it was OK when he did it. did you stayed for the redbull rookie cup? that was the best race of the entire day! those kids are CRAZY
<

perhaps the reason why lorenzo is getting so popular might be because people like to root for a winner, and since rossi isnt racing atm they look for the new winner.

I think there is an element of that. Lets face it success is both cool and entertaining. But also Lorenzo has changed a lot since he's been in motogp. Lorenzo now is far from the Lorenzo who won 250cc titles

bah, its too easy to root for the guy who usually wins and is up front, 2007 stoner fans, 2010 JLo fans. bah. I like the underdog. Spies, Hayden, heck I'll root for Lorenzo if he's way back in the field and battles up to the front, thats some dam good riding, ya gotta yell for that WOOT! I just miss the Lorenzo wrecks, that boy could seriously fly like superman.

So after all you could at least watch a nice race.

I couldn't wait for the redbull Rookie cup, since it was too hot, and my new friends (a Dutch couple) were going away too, i left to my car to sleep untill 7 pm, when almost all the cars were gone and i could go back to Amsterdam, but i still had to spend a few hours in trafic.

About Lorenzo, yes i think it has more to do with his wins and of cource his performance, at the beginning many found him arrogant (just because of his look i think) but the poor guy has never said anything against anybody.
<

I didn't see any Spanish fans last year in Assen but this year i saw some, who mostly had their's and Lorenzo's flags. but even Rossi wasn't there, almost 2/3 of all people were his fans.

If you read the other thread about Stoner, Wayne Gardner has also wrote a nice article about the size of the grid and especially a comparance of Assen gp in the past with it's present situation, and he has said some nice words about Assen gp. we can be hopeful of some changes and maybe we can go there next year again.

By the way you didn't say where you are in that picture
