What would you like done? Strap a couple of 10kg bags of potatoes to his back?
The other Ducati's are in positions 11,16 & 17
So I'm sure they wont be keen to have any handicap applied to them.

I was just wondering ..... maybe you were serious when you said this??
<
( Its hard to tell round here sometimes
<
<
)

So are you thinking say a handicap system like in horse racing ???

or do you mean more technological intervention means ..... such as at the Dodgem Cars at the carni??

Wow all these woud be great ideas!! ... and in a few months the teams would realise that they didn't need to pay for the "fast guy" they have but they could just get some old wino of the street ( maybe even me!!
<
<
<
), then get his handicap upped then its all win win win!! ... kinda well yes we would all so easily be able to see which bike manufacturer could use the system the most.

They could invite "celebrity rider" .... like say Rosanne Barr .... or "ex-P-R-E-S-I_D_E_NT Biiiilllll Cliiintooooooonnnn!!" and just have the handicap put up for them if they are hopeless .
Wow "the Fans" would love that!! cos its all about "the showmanship" thats why Rossi is the best!! .... thats why Dorna should kick out Stoner cos he's too old school, like Doohan, and Rainey, and Lawson, and Shwantz ..... he just goes out there to win like those old guys used to!! ..... wheres the "party" wheres " the camp!!??" .... wheres the "showmanship" that Rossi has provided!!?? ........ thats like tha Gary McCoy guy .... came in on a crap bike/team and started to win races!!! WTF is that !!! ..... and he had no charismas at all!!! .... at least he found the fans liked it when he did slides and that was counted as "entertaining" so he could stay a bit longer!! .... but meh he dissappeared .... fast or not!!! its al about the "the show"!!
<

Imagine that!! .... if they just let the riders ride!! ...gee the next guy to win a WC would have to be pretty darn good ... on his own merit ..... no "managerial"/marketting/popularity interventions to slow him down ..... wow ..... imagine that ...... we'd have fast riders again ... like back in the old days ..... imagine if the riders were all in the WC because they were purely the fastest guys out there again ..... no need to satisfy "fan numbers"/markets etc!! ........... those days are gone ....

Sad??? ......

I hope your post was a joke cos its a sad indictment to what GP could become ....
<
<
<

hahaha ... thank ch#$%& !! .... you had me worried
<
<

Well maybe not you in retrospect ..... but some of the stuff from other posters is of the same ilk as your joke ........... and they "mean it"

Barry, I have a curious question. You usually have something insightful or funny, so I manage to get through the post; however, sometimes I have difficulty reading through some of your posts when you use this unconventional punctuation and sometimes use of caps. Is there a reason why you put three periods (…) between thoughts rather than one? (I don’t mean any disrespect) but I notice others use this form. Do you do it for effect? Just wondering.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Dylan @ Feb 28 2008, 04:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>there needs to be some restriction to not allow anyone to pull away like stoner does, even when rossi was dominating, it wasnt this bad.....
I guess sarcasm isn't easy to spot sometimes, eh.

I have an idea, lets put a rev limiter, but just on Stoner’s bike. What da ya think?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jumkie @ Feb 29 2008, 12:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Is there a reason why you put three periods (…) between thoughts rather than one?

I am currently pondering a manner in which I could explain my personal use of multiple "periods" in forum posts which I compose.

( translated in "myposttype" as - "hmmm ?? ...... how do I put this" )

its my version of "text-talk" perhaps ...... whereby, I use the multiple periods as a pause, or a break for a thought, or for gramatical effect, or lead-into or out of a statement or following context, in a general attempt to make the text more as spoken.

In a previous persona I was in a scientific field. In all writing I did there was a very heavy emphasis on factual point by point reasoning. With no ommisions in punctuation. This included entire new sentences to set-tone, or context, or simply to discount the possibility of confusion. It is a nasty way of writing, it is exaggerated, complete, verbose, annoying, not fitting for "forums" and generally cumbersome.
Writing in such a manner ensures one can write a chapter about how a wire is fitted. ( or more to the point write one sentence on how it is fitted, andf thence 50 sentences on how not to fit it
<
<
)

In short the periods are to keep my posts from becoming "government report speak". Which tends to end in three sentences justifying why each pertinent sentence was written.

Yea although I was kidding about the restrictions, I wasnt about hoping for a competative season. I really hope ANYONE can keep up with stoner

Ah, I get it. Thanks for the minor clarification.

You could well have a point there.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Stoner)<div class='quotemain'>"The first impression is like playing on the videogame 'Need for Speed'! It's definitely a lot different to what we're used to. It's not better or worse, just different. The most interesting thing is that with lower visibility, at least with regard to the imperfections on the track, you have to have more confidence than your instinct tells you to have."

I think that in this quote he is possibly summing up one of the main reasons he can ride that Duke much faster than anyone else seems to be able. Capi said something to the effect that he struggled to ride it fast in a way that he found instinctual.

Regardless, it sure looks good for Stoner for next weekend.

Another interesting quote was from Loony Bin Lorenzo :
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>"The strangest feeling I had was that I felt... lonely!. Riding in the night, although the light is very strong, makes you feel alone with your bike, so you must keep the concentration very high because of course you are not alone! The right lines do not change because of the light, only when braking do you see your shadow getting closer, and that's why you always must be alert, in order not to get confused with the shadow of another rider!"
BTW, apparently track temp = air temp = 15° according to Brivio. Sounds a little on the cool side.

Genius. Good thing they don't have an IQ test for MotoGP. Lorentho is a ....... nut job.

jeez.... it's still just a test. the first night test & alot to get used too. everyone knows that stoner only has one speed. .. throttle wide open all the time!

the others just need to get comfortable

This is true. Last year he was usually fast from the start, the others got closer over the duration of practice. Rossi in particular will probably take his time to set up on unfamiliar tyres in unfamiliar conditions. I suspect the top michelin runners will be very competitive or possibly faster than stoner on qualifiers.

As others have said we need to see how things look on race tyres with a race fuel load ie in a race; if the rev limit proposal is for real honda and yamaha would appear to be concerned that ducati/stoner may still have the edge.

First proper update of the day.

I have thought about this situation between "is it the bike that matters more or the rider". I think for one weekend, they should have some off company come in to Moto GP. Lets say Triumph. Everyone gets the same bike and the same tire. They are allowed to setup the bike, but nothing more. Then they go race. I think this might settle the "who is the best rider" that everyone seems to be craving. They could do this as a pre-season thing, or better yet a post-season. Sort of like an all star race, hell let in guys from WSBK, Brit series, AMA.

In regards to the recent practice times, I'm glad to see the rookies up there doing so well. They're going to make it a great season. I'm a fan of JT, a real top notch guy both on and off the track, I hope he does well.
