Puig: Rossi can’t accept Marc # 1

I can't help but wonder, to what end Pugh aspires when making this remark to the press. The observation is patently obvious, only sort of newsworthy because Pugh is so well known in the business. If Marquez is discreet enough to keep his personal feelings about Rossi to himself, why does Pugh feel the need to play gossip girl?

Puig is a drama queen. His criticism of Pedrosa was extraordinary. What did he expect to achieve by criticizing a retired rider?

I have to think he has some sort of gameplan to come out and say something like that almost out of the blue. Maybe an attempt to have Yamaha move back to developing for Rossi(after he decides he must prove him wrong) at the detriment of Vinales who is more of a threat to Marquez and/or Lorenzo?

While you and I and others in this forum know that what he is saying is obvious many don't, though those that don't won't be swayed by his words anyway.

He's pretty rough on Pedrosa as well, it's hard to hear Pedrosa didn't try when he had so much surgery to correct injuries and still continued.

They didn’t call him Darth Puig for nothing. He is great at identifying young riding talent, but pretty much a total prick otherwise imo.

Still, if he feels like needling Rossi given Rossi’s own malfeasance in regard to MM, why not?. Perhaps he is attempting to demonstrate his support for MM. The thing is, as has been said, is that MM just doesn’t care, and if anything feeds off Rossi’s so-called mind games.

I don't think his motivations are as Machiavellian as all that. His .... remarks about Dani are simply his way of disassociating himself from perceived failings of the young rider that he promoted to HRC for all those years. If Dani had won multiple championships, you can bet your ... Pugh would be taking the lion's share of the credit, but now Dani's walked away after what was a creditable career, with a list of injuries and surgeries a mile long, Pugh is washing his hands of the whole relationship, because he doesn't like how Dani's shortcomings reflect on him. The guy's a .......

I agree he is a .......
But I also think that with these verbal pyrotechnics he is playing his part in the setup of a great season between all the established top riders.
One thing is for sure, Lorenzo is going to insist on equal treatment from Honda and I hope he will get it. For some strange reason I think Puig will promote that as well.

And you base this opinion on what? The fact he came out of a slump and won a handful of races on what was arguably the best bike of the 2018 season? Repsol got him for pennies on the dollar at a time when there was no decent alternative. All that talk about equal treatment of teammates, is just that, talk. He will have to prove his worth before making any demands.

The comments about Dani... these are the words of a ....-head (big surprise). And that business about HRC never having a preferred rider... pffft! What horseshit. The way they acted like Nicky'd never won in 2006, whilst pretty much building the following iterations for Pedrosa was some of the most blatant favoritism I've ever seen.

Nicky's response was the biggest FU I've seen in racing almost, not only winning the title in 06 but then making these stickers for his bike that Honda told him to remove:

I agree in part, but not totally. Honda want to win all championships, not just the riders. Lorenzo might have had a bad 2 years, but Rossi had a worse tenure at Ducati and he got equal treatment going back to Yamaha.

I'm looking forward to Lorenzo proving his doubters wrong in 2019.

I am not saying that Honda will undervalue Lorenzo. But he will have to demonstrate that he can be consistently competitive on the HRC bike before he can expect to have development influence comparable to Marquez. Lorenzo and Rossi's situations are apples and oranges. Lorenzo is jumping onto a bike that requires a riding style vastly different from his own. Ross OTOH was going back to a bike he knew well and a crew he was intimately familiar with.

Honestly, I don't think anyone is hoping and praying for Lorenzo to fail at Honda. He's a terrific talent and the more top riders on top bikes, the better the racing.

It’s in all of the top riders contracts that they get any and all upgrades at the same time as their teammate. It’s up to them if they implement them or toss them to the side.

As much as I don't like Puig, you have to bear with him.

The amount of Flak that HRC got from Rossi back in his first Yamaha period and the amount of .... that Marc got from him within the past few years is enormous.

It's kinda obvious that as a HRC man Puig wants to pinch #46 him a bit.

I'd do the same :D

Read my post again. I was talking about influence in development. I wasn't referring to regularly scheduled upgrades per se. More in the line of one-off fabrications and influence of design direction, chassis and body work etc.. If Marquez is pushing one way and Lorenzo wants to go in a radically opposed direction, HRC will give preference to Marquez if only one can be accommodated. If at end of year Marquez is promoting a lighter crank with reverse rotation, and a suspension that favors a harder front tire, and Lorenzo wants the opposite, they'll go with Marquez' idea.

For a perfect illustration look at how things have gone for Vinales these last two years.

Honda has said they are prepared to build two different bikes. To what extent they will go has yet to be seen but I don’t think anyone can argue that Marc is the lead rider at Honda, “unlike The Yamaha situation where they seriously don’t know who is the lead rider”that is not up for debate till Lorenzo wins a title, maybe two before he has any claim on direction

Marc has already says the same things Lorenzo is asking for is the same as his.
