My best friend from Uni is the electronic engineer for Colin Edwards and we regularly keep in touch. Anyway in response to my asking him how his trip to the US was, he posted this response on my Facebook wall today:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Andrew posted something on your Wall and wrote:

"US was ok but glad to get back to europe. No idea who's riding for us, but for sure James interview was little wide of the mark on BBC
<
"

For those who don't have BBC coverage, James Toseland basically was asked about next year on the grid and said words to the effect that he was pretty certain he would be at Tech3 in 2010.

Interesting.....

At the rider Q & A in Indy, they asked James the same question everybody wants to know regarding his future; he said: "I have not burned any bridges in WSBK..." as part of his response.

Read into it what you may.

JT's just hoping Spies' presence will let him luck into one more season in GP. I'd be cool with Team Texas, but that might be a hard sell. Maybe they're currently looking toward some of the other riders without a ride?

If that's the case there might be more some truth to the rumors that Tech 3 are sniffing around de Puniet and Vermeulen.

I thought about Vermeulen, but it's not like he has a particularly desirable passport and his recent results have been a step back. Is an American superbiker + an Australian superbiker that much better than 2 American superbikers, sponsorship wise? De Puniet as a young french rider whose results have been on the upswing would be an interesting possibility. Makes it easier to slot Ayoama into a Honda seat without displacing the Hungarian moneyman or adding a bike to the grid, too.

There's the whole Pedrosa situation to contend with as well. If he moves, it shakes things up some, although it shakes things up by adding one more rider with the wrong passport to the puzzle. Finally, there's the rumored Hayamaha ride. That'd almost have to be a seat either for a vet with limited options or a second-tier rookie.

De Puniet almost makes too much sense.

On the BBC, JT said it was up to Spies. If Spies joins then he stays with Tech 3 if he doesn't then he is gone.

Edwards kind of implied the same when asked by Suzy. He didn't want to answer and he held back his desire to punch her in the mouth by giving her an unheartened hug. He eventually said "Let's go racing, thats all I want to say". It was easy to see he was pissed by the whole situation. EVERYONE knows he deserves to stay especially with the season that he is having but it looks like it might not shape up that way.

It's hard to tell WTF is going on but I hope that we are in for a few shake ups

JT was a bit cocky about it. Pretty chipper about thinking he's going to stay in GPs for another year and outlast Edwards on the team, all because someone else shares Colin's passport. Edwards is clearly not thrilled with the situation at all.

The part where Colin's fate is tied to Spies sure looks accurate. It's a shame, really. Other than the top 4, there isn't a rider in the Paddock who's performed better. He's within a race win's worth of points of Pedrosa and 50 points clear of his teammate.

I disagree Matt, that's not JT's style at all. There's not a shred of arrogance about the man.

I'm amazed anyone thinks Edwards deserves to stay - Oh ok yeah lets give him another 10 years and he's bound to be a title threat - bring back Gary McCoy FFS!

The point is he has owned his team mate week in & week out all season, yet he may be the one to be forced out. I can understand his frustration.

LCR might be running 2 bikes for 2010 remember

RdP going to tech3 would be a smart move for him IMO. the satellite yamahas seem better prepped etc than the sat hondas.

Thats not a bad move in all honesty, the LCR is a race proven machine and with JT on board it can be top 3.

oh! thx....havent heard that! so eventually 19 bikes on the grid? with hayate eventually staying with yamaha engine!?!?!?

Tbh i think its quite funny that a british rider might actually KEEP a seat in motogp because of their passport for once.

There are too many riders better than JT to justify keeping him around. It's a shame but i don't think any Brits are currently good enough for the top class
