Well it looks like the Phillip Island event will move to March or disappear off the calendar from 2012 onwards. If the weather in March is consistently better (and warmer) than the weather in October, I think it is a good thing.

Here's the link.

A good thing, it'll probably piss down every march there now! Whilst I think the track is amongst the best in the world, I can't say that i'd be upset to see somewhere with a little more off track entertainment get the gig in oz.....

But the round would leave Australia altogether. Like the Aussie F1 GP. When the race leaves Melbourne or Phillip Island, that is it. It is gone forever.

Sure Talpa how about we leave PI (arguably one of the best tracks in the world) and run the 'gig' at the local go cart track in Brisbane - that's where you're from isn't it?

They have a Ferris wheel, and you can eat fairy floss and run around with a squirty gun and look at the pretty lights!

Well WSBK can take the end of season slot. It's bad enough motogp plays second fiddle to F1 (although understandable).

Carmelo is reaching. Threatening not to homologate based on the possibility of bad weather, a year in advance, would probably end in the court system, with him looking like a fool. If thats the case, he could hold every track hostage with anything he could dream up in his crystal ball.

ah

Survey all the GP riders and ask them what is their favorite track (apart from giving their home track props) they will most unanimously say PI. Dropping PI? Great idea........... Carmelo. Empty threat, I say call his bluff and make him look stupid....again.

Do you remember the year peeps were passing out at Laguna cuz of some heat wave? Track was literally melting. The riders were even saying how it was like riding in an oven. Imagine if Carmelo wanted to drop Laguna just incase it was hot again? Not surprisingly, Talpa agrees with Carmelo, birds of a feather, etc. I guess not having Rossi win the last few years and seeing Stoner claim the top spot has just been too much to stomach for poor o'l Talpy.

(get rid of PI)

Doesn't PI have a contract for another few years? If so, does CE think he is above his contractual obligations? Funny how he expects Suzuki to stick to their obligations. Someone remind me how many wet races there have been at PI since it joined the calendar. Oh, thats right ONE in 15 years.

Is there a new track being built in Spain or did Rossi simply demand the date be moved? Probably the later as it is the same MO as the tyre deal. Rossi demands - CE threatens black listing - change happens. Maybe it is for safety, just like the change to 800's.

Are the purity....soak it up!

back in your hole now mut......

Read the post, I stated it's one of the best circuits and it's one of my favourites, however cows is a very small country town which doesn't offer much for the tens of thousands on a motogp race weekend. Unless you like cuddling up with the boys in one of two small pubs jam packed... Oh you probably do like that

I,m flabbergasted. To even consider dropping probably the best remainaing circuit is sheer lunacy.

As Casey said..............the weather can be just as ...... in March-April. Look at the past 10 years and find even one race that was not great.

If they moved the circuit ( recreated exactly) to say Coober Pedy then we would be confident of dry racing weekends, but then we would be missing the dramatic backdrop of the Southern Ocean and conjecture about the weather.

I say keep the circuit forever. Maybe even run all 18 rounds there

The contract ends this year so CE is putting demands in place for the new contract.

My understanding was that a lot of the riders were requesting a change but Valentino's name is the one which was publicised.

Barry I think it is as hayden fan says concerning both F1 and motogp (unfortunately at least in the case of motogp anyway), and neither australian gp has a bargaining position, however much the competitors may like the races or how good the circuit is in the case of PI. Both sports are now dominated by commercial imperatives and australia with 20 million people is a small market with the added problem of distance from the main game (europe for both sports) and consequent expense/logistic problems, as well as tv scheduling issues. Bernie apparently has people lining up to pay him for the privilege of losing money running F1 events, for the perceived prestige garnered for the emerging economies or whatever.

I don't know what the real story is with PI, and if weather is the real reason, but to be fair to dorna , not something towards which I am particularly inclined, I guess problems for the organisers with clashes with F1 or wsbk are not something ce is necessarily obliged to consider.

The strength of local support, tradition of successful australian competitors/world champions etc should count but such things don't seem to with the commercial interests now running the sports; I think dorna are actually trying to sell their stake at present and where the sport is in 10 years may not be high on their list of priorities even if this future involves racing on sterile tracks with no local attendance.

I wasn't there in 2010

In 2009 I froze my arse off

In 2008 I got sunburned real bad and smelt like a shearers sock

In 2007 I was perfect and so on and so forth.

Didn't they have a hurricane (cyclone to Australians) at one of the American rounds?

Didn't CV win his only GP at a soaking Le Mans?

This is the stupidest (I invented a word) .... I have ever heard. The big prediction....there will be weather at every round this year!!!!!!!!

PI is a great racetrack, lay of the land like Laguna. This must be about sponsorship or something, right?
