Yeah, I'm not a Rossi fan, but I admire his skill and I was relived when he decided to stay in MotoGP, because it would be very bad for the health of the sport if he went off to join the Fnone "orderly procession to the chequered flag"

So far In this thread I've heard "He's only human - but just" and "Its a fact that Rossi is superhuman" Nuff said!

And If you think someone who has over the top celebrations, does a burn-out in the parc ferme, pulls out a chair and sits on it, on the podium whilst his competitor has a massive gash in his knee and can barely walk. And people think this guy is sporting? down to earth? I truely doubt that?

Im sorry If may have offended anyone but this is a free forum and Im entitled to my opinion, the last time I cahecked this wasn't www.motogpkeepyouropiniontooyourselfincaseyoudontoffendanyoneforums.com

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (The Doc 79 @ Oct 17 2006, 06:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>WRONG. Think about what you just said. You're not seeing my meaning. In each of the people I mentioned....in their time...they were the best in their field......Lance Armstrong IS an athlete, who defied odds and who outperformed all others in his sport despite terrible circumstances.....Mother Teresa was a human being who became more than the sum of her parts to promote change......Albert Einstein was a pioneer in developing theory......If you were to become a cyclist...who would you emulate? huh? How about if you went into humanitarian work? or what about if you decided to be a mathematician???? What if you were a motorcyclist.....who would be the baseline for comparison right now>>>regardless of who you talk to...its Rossi. In his field, he's become more than the sum of his parts, more than a guy with a silly leather suit on....he promotes the sport, he has developed cutting edge race bikes and done so in a short period of time under massive pressure......but you already knew that right? I'm such a bopper...right?

And by the way, I did notice that this was a first post.....is that how you treat people that have a mainstream opinion of Rossi...."they must be a troll"......sure....that isn't being shortsighted.....

Also, your words: ...did I say " look at this ..... who thinks Rossi's superhuman, next they'll be calling him god".....
You think this might be what you really were thinking......I bet it is.....I give credit where credit is due.....if someone else could come in and kick Rossi's ... all over the map....I'd say the same thing about them....

So now its, I must emulate Rossi because you think he's the greatest? Because I race and I sure as hell dont emulate Rossi. Its like your saying that everyone must love Rossi. Your the one thats basically calling me a Rossi basher just because I didn't agree with something you said. Your putting words in my mouth and making me out to be something Im not and that ....... pisses me off. I didn't call you a bopper, I didn't insult anyone in a cruel manner, but according to you, because you can read minds, I think that people are trolls because they compliment Rossi! the point of my post was that Rossi, at the end of the day is just an athlete. There are people in the world who fight to make the world a better place, they are the real superhumans. Not some man who rides a bike.

If I had a penny for everytime I heard someone say "Rossi's a god" "Rossi is the greatest" from people that haven't even been watching Grand Prix long enough to even have the right to conjur up something like that. I'd be able to buy out Microsoft and still have some change to buy half the solar system.

And you know whats really ironic about legends such as Jorden, Armstrong and Shoemaker. They all have been linked with something that has tarnished their image. Armstrong has been linked to illegal drugs, Jordan to illegal match fixing, and schumie, well I think you know what the so called greatest F1 driver has done in the past. Do you think Rossi is so pure now, because you seem to know him so well.

And have any of these suspisions that tarnish their image been proved in court?

When looking for the gratest athletes most people look for the talent end the extrodinary achivements.
Some purists seems to judge by other criteriaes: If there is stains, either rumors or (in the big picture) smaller incidents where the caracter of the person may be in question, none of these are even worthy to consider.

This demand for stainless record on and off the " track" is to mainly irelevant to me. No these guys are not in it to change the world and shold not be juged as one either. Some of those incidents rather prove grateness rather than the oposite. Grateness in their specific sport, grateness in proving what it takes to be a winner. This is no garden party and anyone who think so should get out before they get fried.
On the other hand there are of cource things that are not acceptable. Drugs is one of them. But there is no valid proof that Armstrong ever used any and in the meantime; to mention it is puting the stains on yourself.

As I said we have different values for considering the gratest.

Im not questioning their ability, it was more a question of character. And no one here can say that he or she is a down to earth so and so because no one knows the person in question well enough. And if you research well, you will find out that Armstrong proved positive for drugs but due to his reputation and popularity in France, things were quickly thrown under the covers and never mentioned again. People of great power are always getting away with it, whilst minor athlete's are used as an example and given the harshest fines.

Rossi is just human, like everyone else out on that track. Which makes it all the more fantastic the way he's managed to get back to the top of the points. And while passing comments that rossi is superhuman is a bit silly, it's even sillier to suggest that his tyre failure in China (for which Michelin officially apologised) his spill at Jerez (for which Elias apologised) or his engine failure at le mans could be anything to do with his 'big head'. Grow up! He's not big headed. He's got attitude and self confidence in buckets, something which if some other riders had more of, would result in a far more interesting championship for us all to watch.
i like you !!

Could someone tell me what would have happened if when Pedrosa took hayden out. Pedrosas bike were still in working order and he let hayden take his and hayden finished the race on the number 26? I would still think it would be fine? anyone?

I don't take it seriously, it's not my world championship or my pay check... at least not until I find a job seriously writing about it. It's just gotten to the point where members ridicule one another for liking certain riders and disliking others. I'm all for a constructive debate but this has turned into an honest debate as to whether or not Rossi is human. For those arguing on either side, is it really necessary to even bring this up?

i'm sure no-one actually thinks rossi is god/superman/super human matey.

it's just a turn of phrase

That actually isn't what this was about at all.....it was about me defending a new member who decribed Vale as having superhuman ability (ie. special talent) from the onslaught of those who immediately condone that opinion as "trollish" and "bopperish"......by doing so, I was actually trying to eliminate the problem you mention......
