seems taupo motorsports park is in nagotiations for a gp in the near future. looks like marbles be able to go see a gp soon.

So with Misano added to the 2007 schedule and the rumors of a New Zealand GP, how many current venues do you think are on the chopping block? I'm all for the series expanding with more rounds and more venues but I hope we don't lose too many current circuits. There aren't more than a couple races each year that are financially unstable, I can't imagine Dorna axing a round just because.

I think it's unlikely. I may be wrong but with so many of the teams based in Europe and riders complaining about the number of 'fly away' rounds last year it would be a long shot to bet on a gp being held in NZ. I don't know how many Kiwi spomsors would benefit if there are any? If more far away rounds get the chop it'll be another European or possibly US round.
Yeah I think it's unlikely, there are no Kiwi riders, no Kiwi sponsors and I don't know if there are enough fans to fill the stands (could use sheep though)

i have another look for the article when i get home, but yer, if P.I. is removed i wouldn't doubt it for a second if it were to be moved to Taupo ... lovely track there

Yeah cool, more rounds on our side of the globe! BUT They better leave PI there!
There`s only what? 3 million people in NZ. And as Teo said, no riders, teams, or sponsors. A good track isn`t incentive enough for Dorna

It`s nothing major is it though? No safety or track mods? Just the local hippies bitching because Greg Norman`s golf course and that big new hotel means the seagulls have to move up the shore a few hundred meters, isn`t it?

that is part of it ... but the motogp contract for the next 5 years hasn't been signed yet ... and the company that own the circuit, Linfox Property Group still has alot to do before any of the upgrades take place ...
and basically, Linfox want the government to help out with regards to money. but they rejected the bid last year but it sounds like Linfox are trying again.

i hope pi stay's! that would suck big time if it were struck from the schedule. produces some of the closet racing really. great track! hope to see it someday personaly!
