New rules for 2010

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Apr 3 2009, 11:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Well the way i see it, nobody ever expects to be a title contender in their rookie motogp season and very few ever really have been. With that in mind the rule wont turn people away from motogp rides as they will see the big picture. If anything it might make the idea less risky for riders like Spies because they will be in the same boat as all the 250 hot shots and wont have to try and fight with weaker teams/machinary and wind up riding inferior equipment their entire career and blame it on never having the same opertunities. For as long as motogp remains the pinnacle i don't think many riders will go to superbike because they will have a more competative rookie season rather than seeing the bigger picture.
I am a motogp partisan like you, but even on this site which was formerly baldly called motogpforum many disagree with us concerning the primacy of motogp. Well performed wsbk riders may well have to take a considerable pay-cut to race as satellite motogp riders, and are likely to be older to start with than 125 or 250/moto2 riders. You are probably correct that a way will be found to recompense someone of spies' prominence as a rookie in motogp, and perhaps dorna's plan is to make all the satellite riders de facto extra factory riders on near full factory kit; this may be the only way out since the previous rule changes and mass discarding of rusted on supporters like michelin have effectively finished even vaguely independent teams.

I really don't see how this is going to help satellite teams. In theory the idea of recruiting young talent that are attractive to sponsors seems brilliant, but in reality this could also give sponsors too much control. We could end up with a situation were some young hot shot gets into a satellite team, doesn't reach his potential, but because he matches the sponsors image requirement for example, nationality, public friendly image, blah blah, he could get into a mentality of where he knows he's not going anywhere because, 1. He brought the sponsor in 2. He meets the sponsors requirements. We could end up with a grid full of under achievers who are comfortable lagging around.

Why the hell are they setting up rookie rules in the top class? isn't this what 250/moto2 are there for? If they want to make sure that only proven riders make it to the top class, make the feeder class more competitive, make it like GP2.
