Evening all.

Hope you are all keeping well and in good health.

I am a 46 years old lover of all things motorcycle, mainly due to the upbringing I received as a child.

Born in Yorkshire in 1969, I was named after a speedway rider called Greg Kentwell, who raced for our nearest club, Halifax, at the time. So the second I was born I was inducted into motorcycling. Speedway still remains an interest of mine.

We were taken to all kinds of motorcyling events. Speedway, Esholt Sprint (near Guiseley, Leeds), Hill Climbs (Batings Dam), Scrambling (Post Hill, Leeds), Grass and Long Track (mainly York) and Road Racing.

My father always tinkered with bikes. He passed away in 1994, and owned a Manx Inter Norton from the 1950's until months before his passing. He also had an old Greeves scrambler for kicking around on too.

He spannered for a local guy for around three years, at a few meetings around the region and in the Manx GP, circa 1978-80. The rider and machine finished the circuit on each occasion, probably a better achievement way back then. :)

So my upbringing was definitely bikes.

My interest now in bikes is now down to watching the MotoGP on TV, and following speedway in the flesh on Thursday's at Sheffield.

I also have a hobby / passion of drawing bikes / racers in whichever form I can. I did this as a schoolboy, stopped when I hit adulthood, and began drawing again 4 years ago. A 26 year gap. I do like a rest. ;)

So my bike love is generic, though there was always something about the 500cc World Championship that gripped me. I was reared in the Barry Sheene era, and remember some great racers at the time. Kenny Roberts was also huge, Randy Mamola I remember for the wheelies, all from a great childhood.

Thanks for reading my intro. :)

Welcome! Norton is beautiful!

Thank you very much littlesparrows.

It was so cool, as with it being a Classic Bike, it was almost impossible to get Insurance for it in the 80's.

So where most people in the UK at the time had a 'stone fireplace' as a living room centrepiece , we had a Manx Norton.

About as cool  as it gets for a living room feature. It had a paint roller tray underneath to catch the oil.

Happy days. :)

Haha! Sounds like my piece of card board under my '64 beetle like a pee pad. You gotta cherish the classics, soon people will forget & we can't let that happen!

We had a Beetle too, as our car!

I guess my dad was quite the cool dude at the time... you just notice it more and more as you get older!

You are right too. The classics need cherishing. History can't be allowed to consume them. :)

Welcome Greg,

My dad is a lover of bikes too and had many nortons etc growing up (Started with a BSA Bantam). He now has a Ducati Monster and a Triumph Bonneville T100.

I have an MGB GT V8 and a Ford Anglia 105e, LittleSparrows as you know has a Beetle, so plenty of classic fans here.

Gotta tell you Greg, that ink piece of Cal in particular...

...thats a real thing of beauty.

Thanks mate.

I am particularly proud of the Marquez piece though as it is the first ever colour piece I have tackled alone with colour without being advised. So I have a soft spot for the piece.

Thanks for the comments.

Why is it that new members rarely make it out of the introductions thread? Btw, thanks for the offer mate. I have enough art in my Nicky shrine.

Kesh, can you shed any light here?

Thanks all. My time is very limited between my job as an ambulance driver and making art Jumkie. I'd love to post more but I don't have enough hours in my life.
I do love to lurk and read though.
This last month has been a nightmare too, my daughter has left home for University, and we've had all the logistics of that.
I need more spare time, I'm putting together a portfolio to try and get inducted into my local Fine Artist group, I'll be around more when life allows me to be.
Though I totally appreciate the welcome by all of you here.
Respect. [emoji4]
