Evening all.
Hope you are all keeping well and in good health.
I am a 46 years old lover of all things motorcycle, mainly due to the upbringing I received as a child.
Born in Yorkshire in 1969, I was named after a speedway rider called Greg Kentwell, who raced for our nearest club, Halifax, at the time. So the second I was born I was inducted into motorcycling. Speedway still remains an interest of mine.
We were taken to all kinds of motorcyling events. Speedway, Esholt Sprint (near Guiseley, Leeds), Hill Climbs (Batings Dam), Scrambling (Post Hill, Leeds), Grass and Long Track (mainly York) and Road Racing.
My father always tinkered with bikes. He passed away in 1994, and owned a Manx Inter Norton from the 1950's until months before his passing. He also had an old Greeves scrambler for kicking around on too.
He spannered for a local guy for around three years, at a few meetings around the region and in the Manx GP, circa 1978-80. The rider and machine finished the circuit on each occasion, probably a better achievement way back then.
So my upbringing was definitely bikes.
My interest now in bikes is now down to watching the MotoGP on TV, and following speedway in the flesh on Thursday's at Sheffield.
I also have a hobby / passion of drawing bikes / racers in whichever form I can. I did this as a schoolboy, stopped when I hit adulthood, and began drawing again 4 years ago. A 26 year gap. I do like a rest.
So my bike love is generic, though there was always something about the 500cc World Championship that gripped me. I was reared in the Barry Sheene era, and remember some great racers at the time. Kenny Roberts was also huge, Randy Mamola I remember for the wheelies, all from a great childhood.
Thanks for reading my intro.
A couple of pics to share with the group:
My latest pencil art: Marquez, 10 x 8 inches:
Older ink art: Crutchlow, A4
Dad with Manx Inter Norton:
Manx Norton on it's own:
Thanks for taking the time to read.
Cheers.
Greg.
