Rossi will win tomorrow, and it will be a close race only if he wants it to be, which begs the question "why would he?".

As for the other four, they seem to be evenly matched, no obvious advantage from any of the "race runs". If Dani is able to break away maybe he can clinch 2nd, but with the speed deficit the Honda's have to the Ducatis and Yams he'll have to work wonders out of the last corner to keep Stoner behind him. After the first corner the Dukes are kind of sitting ducks, with the Yamahas, Honda(s?), and Suzukis being quicker, thus things will even out.

Capirex is sort of the odd one out here. He knows the place better than everyone around him, is highly motivated, and has race smarts second to none. He could very well leave the corner-in-corner-out fight to the other guys, wait for the pile-up, and deal with whoever is left standing at the latter stages. If the Suzukis hold that far...

Lorenzo seems absent and I can't figure out why. His race pace is slower than anyone in front of him, except maybe Nikky, and only a modest (by his standards) late qualifying run hoisted him to 7th. Moody/Ryder commented on how he used to have "off weekends", and that is true, but he can hardly afford them now. Not with this crowd.

Here are the qualifying breakdown for the first 5:

(look at that 2nd run!!!)

And, just for kicks:

wonder where all the "rossi is old and past it" brigade have disappeared to lately

Rossi was the only one in the 1:49s on race tyres (4 consistent laps) other than Capi who was being towed by Rossi at the time. Looking good.

Eurosport commentators reported sunny, clear skies, and a definite rise in temperature. In fact it can be really hot because of the topography of the place.

Lets hope we have three great races (want "close races", watch fourteen "125s" screaming past within 1.500s...)

OOppps, don't say they are heading our way, the midless cheerleader gang. Cheering VR, The Old Fart ™.

This is shaping up for a BIG runaway win for Rossi. I can't see how anyone could threaten him. He's on a roll after 2 wins, comes to Mugello where he's won 6 times in the premier class, he dominates qualifying and he has the fastest race setup. That must be a bit discouraging for his rivals...

The big question is if Stoner and Capirossi could squeeze in between Rossi and Pedrosa. If so, Rossi will have a pretty comfotable lead in the championship by the end of tomorrow.

Stoner comes back and steals it from Rossi....

I think lorenzo will be right up there. He is presumably still hurting, so his fastest laps rather than his consistency are probably more reflective of his pace. In the previous races, when he was in worse shape, once he got some rhythm (and probably some adrenaline) going in the races he was progressively faster.

To me stoner actually looks pretty fast; I am a fanboy though
<
. He apparently did two successive 1' 49'' laps on race tyres in a short run, and had seven 49'' and 48'' laps in total to rossi's eight in QP.

I don't really think either of them or pedrosa will beat rossi even if they are close early as he is likely to put in his trademark late lap surge which he seems to have regained; I guess this is what last year's michelins wouldn't allow him to do.

Morning pratice Dovi heads it, Pedrosa and Rossi are on pace, Stoner is losing so much time in sector 3. Lorenzo is really off the pace

I hear what you're saying, and it could very well be that he is suffering from lack of dry track practice/setup more than the others, but his warm-up time (11th) still mirrors the relative pace of the practice/quali sessions.

How do you figure that?! I only see five under 50" laps. Am I missing something?

I think he'll go for a disappearing act à la Le Mans.

I was going from the analysis on the dorna motogp site, not the eurosport times you posted. Eurosport only seemed to list each progressively faster lap for stoner, but listed all rossi's fast laps including his run of 4 fast laps on race tyres; they were obviously pleased with his pace
<

You may well be right about rossi in the race, and about lorenzo; again if lorenzo is in pain though there is probably not much point pushing too hard in the warm-up.

hmm, I'll have to be more careful with the Eurosport analysis then. I assumed that was the complete rundown of lap times. Thanks.

I'm I right in thinking only registered, paying members have that info on MotoGP.com? I have a free membership but I can't come to terms with that site. Nothing is where it's supposed to be, live timing doesn't work, etc.

I am paying them this year, I am not quite sure what for, but I think I was able to get this and definitely was able to get live timing last year when I was registered but not paying a subscription. You go to results and statistics, global results, race session, other results, then analysis. It takes a while for it to become available after each session.

NOW live timing is working for me! Typical. But was looking after sector times (like with Formula1.com LT) to see where people are gaining/loosing time. As it stands it's somewhat useless, except for the split to the rider ahead.

And NO WAY I'm paying for that thing!

(WTF!!! Hector Barbera nearly got killed just now!)

Oh, and thank you for the directions. I'd never find it on my own.
