MotoGP's Future

Im on record as saying if they feel they must put CRT bikes on a GP grid, they should have different championships. Without it, they stick out like the grid fillers they are. One downside to that would be if the economy ever came around and money started flowing, teams more than likely would defect back to prototypes, killing the CRT championship. That wouldnt bother me, but it might alienate some who are fans of CRT. No doubt there would be plenty of teams willing to fill the CRT void, but do we want 30-35 bikes on a GP grid.

You've made a better case against a CRT class. The ebb and flow of competitors would jeopardize the class and render it meaningless. The manufacturers need people to beat so splitting MotoGP into two classes of 12 bikes gives the appearance of fewer direct competitors. Furthemore, if GP keep the deadwood alive with a separate championship, GP won't have room for factory teams. Are they going to kick out a CRT team if a decent factory returns? An informal championship, like the satellite rivalry, is sufficient to keep people interested, and the difference in the technical regulations, as well as swift CRT performance development, should keep fans interested.

Split championship is only necessary if CRT are going to be permanently uncompetitive. Unless the GPC has ratified significantly different rules for 2013, we have no reason to assume CRTs will be uncompetitive. Despite performance handicaps (tires, horsepower, weight), WSBKs can lap within 2 seconds of a MotoGP bike. CRTs have Bridgestones. According to Aprilia, the RSV4 engine magically gains 20+ horsepower for CRT competition. Weight will be similar between CRT and factory with the new 157kg/160kg rules for 2012-2013. Furthermore, Domenicali is complaining about the sophistication of the ART, and how factory development is not in the spirit of the rules. We've yet to see the ART at a MotoGP test (only the RSV4 WSBK with Bridgestones).

If they will just rev limit, this drama will be over. The manufacturers will continue pummeling private teams, and Honda will continue winning even if it's by a less spectacular WSBK-margin. The CRT teams will start the uphill battle to develop a full prototype, rather than horsing around with SBKs and satellite bikes as permitted by the MSMA.

I'm not on the inside of the racing world, so thankfully I can harvest some hope from Krop's optimism. However, looking in from the outside I can't help but think: how much is stopping companies like Honda and Yamaha from pulling out all together? Is it possible that Ezy overestimates his leverage? Is SBK as really that much of a no-go for them? And even if it is, will they care enough if they can't race on the world stage?

I hope Ezy knows what he is doing, but I have my doubts.

So, 7 months on and Honda have realized that this scenarion can at least serve as a credible threat, and perhaps a course of action really worth considering.

Every time HRC want a rule change, they threaten to walk - every time.

Still, they did it in F1... and didn't look back.

i'm not sure i'd miss hrc,or any manufacturer.

to be honest ,after some months of grief over the loss of the 250s i found myself enjoying moto2 at least as much.

let honda walk and if they want to stay in gp somehow ,let them sell their production rc213v to privat teams

Where's chop-chop? Didn't he just walk out in a huff?

Rumor has it he's been committed to the Betty Ford clinic and is undergoing multiple treatments aimed at reversing the (gruesome) effects of chronic steroid abuse.

Jumkie, any word from the clinic?

Is that all you've got? Pathetic.

Where's chop-chop? Didn't he just walk out in a huff?

He's busy getting sucked off by your sister....

Carry on.

(P.S I wont be looking at this thread again, so don't even bother trying to type a smart arsed reply

I doubt my sister would consider a dumb-arsed mechanic in the same social class, let alone someone suitable for frolics.

But as you will never look at this thread again, you will never know that.

Nice try at a wind-up, not very smart and not very original, but no doubt it made you feel tough.

I get it - you're Welsh. You need to hit and run to feel tough. Sticking around and matching wits is something you aren't equipped for.
