MotoGP want Toseland
By Michael Guy

21 March 2007 12:16

James Toseland’s winning start to the WSB season has put him at the top of Honda’s MotoGP shopping list for 2008.

Satellite Honda squads Grissini and LCR have both expressed an interest in the 26-year-old Brit and Toseland’s manager Roger Burnet is heading out to Jerez this weekend to open discussions with the teams.

Toseland has made no secret of his desire to switch to MotoGP. At the end of last season tested Dani Pedrossa’s Honda RCV211 where he impressed Honda bosses with his pace and feedback.

Despite the interest Toseland maintains his focus is with WSB and he is currently delighted with both his bike and Ten Kate squad.

He said: “I think it’s every rider’s goal to be in MotoGP, but if I go it has to be on a competitive bike. I had the chance to go this year with the D’Antin Ducati but I know I made the right decision to stay in WSB.

“Superbikes is the championship where I made my name, I am very happy here and I ride for one of the best teams in the paddock.”

MCN has learned Toseland may not have to leave the Ten Kate squad to go to MotoGP as it is rumoured that the Dutch squad are planning to run a team in the MotoGP class in 2008.

Ten Kate would continue to run their highly successful WSB and WSS projects and have recently comprehensively upgraded their work shop facilities.

New sponsor HaNNspree are also delighted with the huge exposure Toseland and Ten Kate have given them already this season and are already confirmed for 2008.

It would be awesome to see Toseland in Motogp.
Maybe he could be the British hopeful.

Hope he wins the World Superbikes this year to.

i rekon HANSPREE will have JT onto Elias's bike next year if Tony fails to impress

Did the same person just post twice? (Not you baldy)

Back on topic...would be great...lets wait and see

Could be a good call about elias' ride!

I hope he wins WSB too. He has a Team KR swing arm on the bike..........thats the only reason lol. No really I hope he does.

"Satellite Honda squads Grissini and LCR have both expressed an interest" ... Gresini will be a good move for him, but unless it's Repsol Honda I don't think he should go!

Melandri hasn't won or got a decent podium for a long while! My gosh!

melandri is the only other person getting "factory" honda parts.
JT is wanted because he is a good young british rider that the series needs, and he would be on a competitive honda, not on a poop yamaha or second string ducati.

I think Toseland will probably just replace Elias in Gresini team and partner Melandri. Pedrosa will stay at Repsol and Hayden probably will unless he does really rubbish. Elias back to Yamaha either partner Rossi if Edwards has a bad season or to tech3 yamaha more likely.

Don't forget though some of the best WSB riders have come to Moto GP and looked average. e.g Bayliss, Edwards and Biaggi who was rubbish on the repsol honda suddenley looks one of the best WSB riders. So we shouldn't expect to much from Toseland in Moto GP.

I actually don't like JT that much coz of his personality but a Brit in Moto GP can only be a good thing and i would like to see a brit who is actually capable of winning races and is not almost a pensioner!

How about Phillip Island, let me remid you he has won a race more recently than Valentino, and the last two Honda victories were Gresini boys. They are an excellent team and more than a good enough ride for JT to start his gp career. I think we shouldn't expect too much from him in gp at first, lets just hope he can make the switch more successfuly than other superbike riders in the past.

Also can i add that i predicted Gresini interest ages ago.

yea got Tom!!!
what u on about he hasnt had any decent podiums or wins he has had loads last season and didnt do too bad at qatar.

I would love to see JT in Motogp.
He would become a serious title contender i think after 1 or 2 seasons.

World Superbike riders have shown they have talent.

Bayliss at Valencia as a stand in rider won the race.
That was pretty dam impressive.

And McWilliams isn't?

Yeah he would be if everyone had to ride round on electric scooters.
<

Infact he may be beaten then.

How about if everyone else walked around???
On their hands??

Lol
