MotoGP 'Tipping"?

Ok it's the off season and I'm bored so thought I would float an idea,

I'm fairly new around these parts so I don't know, but has there ever been a PS 'tipping' comp for the MotoGP season?

MA's thread got me thinking about it but that thread was doomed to die from the start.

I'd be more than happy to help run a thread, that wasn't an X rider is better than Y rider type thread. Where 24 hours before each race you enter your predictions and points are accumulated.

Seeing as there are people from all over the world on here a physical prize might be hard, but I would be willing to put up a grandstand ticket to your home GP for the overall winner. As this is easy to organise from anywhere.

Ideas, input and criticism welcome

Aw, I thought this was gonnae be like cow tipping where you run into a field and tip a coo. Running onto the grid to tip a gp rider? could be fun.........No points for Dani though, you could do it with a hair dryer in the stands!

Baffy, do you mean like a pool? That is, we all make predictions and we win based on who got the closest to the score card? For that to make sense, the participants would need to ante up right? I'm down. We use to have a fantasy league here. Don't know what happened to it. But if youre down I'm in. Lets do this. It will make it more interesting around here. Not sure how the ante up could work though. If you wanted the site to hold the funds, you'd have to coordinate with Ben, which might be a problem because the dude has a very busy life. Or if you want to hold the loot, I'm down with that too. If you can figure something out, I'm in.

I was going to cover the cost of prize for the first year Jum. If it worked well for a year or so, it could be worth looking into an ante to allow for a better prize.

Basically i was thinking, each person allocates who they think will finish in what position in each race.

For every rider you pick in the correct position you get 5 points. (possibly bonus points for picking pole?)

Who ever has the most points at the end of the season wins the prize

Cant it be done using the motogp website and their fantasy league?

Did it last year and it works ok.

You nominate the first 15 riders and only get points from where they finish in the race.

When your logged on and looking at results there is a band with overall points and position, this would just have to be cut and paste into the thread for proof at the end of season or for bragging rights as the season goes on to keep the thread alive.

Just an idea

^^ So you can have your own group within the motoGP site comp?

That would make things easier!

Or do you mean we all enter the MotoGP comp?

I don't think you can have an private league within the motogp league.

so we would have to register as individuals and cut and paste results into the thread.

It would save a headache of working out points etc.

Ill have a play in the next week or so and see if i can rig up an online system, that will auto calculate etc

I'd rather try and keep it separate from MotoGP and a bit more PS oriented.

Sounds cool Baf. I was just thinking of the ante so the players could have a vested interest. But ok, you're very generous. I wouldn't spend too much on whatever prize you decide. I'm in. When you do it, you might want to open a thread in Fantasy MotoGP league board as opposed to one in the regular MotoGP chat board, unless you asked to have the thread pined.

Alright dude. Its going to be lots of work unless you can find a simple form that we can enter our predictions that will generate a simple points tally per player.

Baf - I used to run a site fantasy league, which was integrated into the forum & people could manage teams, tyres, engines etc - we even had a main prize of a motogp holiday!!

This was great, but ruined my Sunday afternoons updating the system & double checking that the points totted up correctly - became a pain in the ..., even with most features automated.

If I was you, I'd make it as simple as possible or use a ready made system (mcn, motogp.com etc) and have a sub league.

Good luck with whichever path you choose!
