Melandri: I almost lost it

James Ellison will definitely leave Tech-3 Yamaha at the end of the season after failing to impress the French outfit, according to team boss Herve Poncharal.

The 26-year-old British rider, who joined the squad from WCM Blata at the start of the season, lies 18th in the championship and has scored just over a third of the points of his team-mate Carlos Checa.

Poncharal said: "I had to tell James that it would be very difficult for us to offer him a job for next year.

"I have nothing against James, but if you look at his results it is hard to think we can do anything."

Tech-3 are known to be chasing 250cc rider Alex de Angelis to replace Ellison alongside Checa next season.

But keeping the veteran Spaniard could prove his most difficult task of all this winter, with Kawasaki, D'Antin Ducati, Fortuna Honda, and the new Ilmor team all chasing him for 2007.

Checa said: "I want to compete at a higher level. I want to have the chance to win races and that is probably difficult with the combination I have now."

So ellison is confirmed out of the yamaha tech 3

Tough break, perhaps he can get a ride in World Superbike or Supersport. Best of luck to him.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Nakano, Kawasaki negotiations 'well advanced'.

Despite rumours of interest from Konica Minolta Honda, negotiations to keep Shinya Nakano at Kawasaki for a fourth season are 'well advanced' and the team hope to make an official announcement soon.

"Shinya's contract expires at the end of this season, but negotiations to keep him at Kawasaki next year are well advanced, and we hope to be in a position where we can confirm our rider line up for the 2007 season in the very near future," a Kawasaki spokesman told Crash.net. "Randy (de Puniet's) contract has another year to run, as it was originally a two-year deal, so he will definitely ride for Kawasaki in 2007."

Nakano again qualified as the top Japanese rider at Motegi on Saturday, setting the fourth fastest time to put Team Green at the front of the second row for his and the team's home Japanese Grand Prix.

Shinya is currently eleventh in the world championship standings, 52 points and five places ahead of rookie team-mate de Puniet, and took his best ever MotoGP finish with a second place at Assen earlier this year.

That diverting sideshow apart, the rest of the action concerned who's where next year. After the Motegi round of gossip, Nakano is thought to be going to Konica Minolta Honda and taking Bridgestone tires with him, while Marco Melandri is the hot tip for the second Ducati seat. That might keep Toni Elias in a job at Team Gresini. On Monday he'll get to see the Ducati and Honda 800s on track together, which might concentrate his mind

if melandri will be at dukes next year....wow that's going to be an all italian team and a real competitive and strong team... and if melandri gets the second ride where is sete going to ride next season.

Will be important 2 see if sete will ride the 800cc bike at motegi's testing sessions.

It's confirmed now...the dukes are in talks with melandri:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Ducati are in talks with Marco Melandri with a view to recruiting the Italian next season. General manager Livio Suppo confirmed they have made an approach but said the chances of closing a deal were no better than "50-50".

The Fortuna Honda man is currently third in the MotoGP championship but is believed to want a factory ride, and would replace Sete Gibernau, who has struggled to make an impression this season.

"It's 50-50. We contacted Marco before Malaysia and made him a firm offer in Australia," said Suppo.

"In the meantime, his victory at Phillip Island changed the landscape a bit, but I think he is interested in our proposal because we can offer him something Honda can't - a seat in a genuine factory team."

Melandri is currently racing for Gresini, a satellite of Honda, with the factory machines taken by Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa.

Ducati have enjoyed an excellent season with three race wins for Loris Capirossi. The veteran Italian is fourth in the points standings and might have become champion had it not been for a crash at Barcelona that forced him to race several events at well below 100%.

"This is our best season by far. Our increase in power is due to a combination of factors; the bike has progressed along with the Bridgestone tyres and Loris is like a fine wine, improving with age," Suppo said.

However, the Ducati boss moved to quell rumours linking Valentino Rossi with a move to the team.

"You never know with Valentino, but for the moment his arrival at Ducati is not the order of the day."

News from www.motorcyclenews.com

KTM has signed Tomoyoshi Koyama to race in the 125cc GP series in 2007.
The 23-year-old Japanese rider has raced for the Ajo Motorsport team in 2006. He is also a winner of the All Japan 125 and Mini Moto championships, making his debut in 2000 as a wildcard at the Motegi round.

Koyama's contract was finalised at the same circuit at which he made his debut. He's currently 16th in the championship, with a best result of seventh coincidentally at the same Japanese round of the championship.
