Mcnnews...rumours....
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Brno also marked that time of the year when the banter surrounding possible rider movements for next season started to reach fever pitch.
On the Australian front, Chris Vermeulen is set to stay at Suzuki and Ducati are said to be courting Casey Stoner. Previously the strongest hint that Casey might leave Honda had been based on the likelihood that he could join Yamaha. But more recently Ducati seems to have firmed up as a contender according to some speculation. 250cc rider Andrea Dovizioso has been linked with a possible LCR Honda MotoGP seat should Stoner vacate. In a surprise twist Garry McCoy could possibly be back in MotoGP sooner rather than later. McCoy has tested a new British machine from four wheel engineering giants Ilmor and it is a possibility that the new machine will make its debut before the end of this season.
The biggest disappointment for Honda in 2006 has been Makoto Tamada. We often saw sparks of brilliance from the Japanese man when he was on Bridgestones in previous years but he has done nothing this year and is likely to be on the outer next year. Shinya Nakano’s name has been linked to the Konica Minolta squad for 2007.
Another rider tipped for a possible move in 2007 is Nicky Hayden. The American has been linked with Yamaha before. Hayden actually had a Yamaha deal in front of him before his initial entry into the GP ranks but he eventually signed with HRC. Yamaha were very unhappy about the negotiations and took the matter to court but it seems now that matter is settled Yamaha are chasing the young American once more. Ducati is also extremely interested in trying to secure the services of Hayden for 2007.
World Superbike star James Toseland has been tipped for a possible Honda ride in MotoGP and that certainly makes sense. MotoGP organisers always try to ensure all the important motorcycle markets have a local hero and it has been a long time since a Brit was competitive in MotoGP. Last week marked 25 years since the last time a British rider won a premier class GP race. Organisers can certainly see the benefits that having a competitive Briton in the championship would bring to the series and there is no doubt they will pull what strings they can to ensure it happens. But it remains to be seen if that will be a possibility for 2007. Some talk has suggested that Toseland and Max Biaggi might be on satellite Ducati machinery next year. Biaggi has been linked to a satellite Ducati seat which would be a welcome return to the GP paddock for the Roman Emperor as, love him or hate him, the GP series is better with him in it rather than sat on the sidelines.
Another Brit name that has recently been mentioned in the same breath as MotoGP is that of Leon Haslam. He has been doing great things of late in British Superbike and his name has been linked with a possible second Team Roberts entry for 2007. However this could be more wishful thinking on behalf of my British sources rather than soundly based on fact. But one thing is certain, Dorna want a competitive Briton in MotoGP and it is not a matter of if, but more of a matter of who and when.
