motoGP 2011 Rd 1 Qatar

Stoner - as expected

Lorenzo - I never expected him to be so close to Hondas. Great job

Pedro - feel sad for him. If what he said in the interview is true, it seems injury has ...... up his one more season

Dovi - average ride

Sic - I think he should get Dovi's ride next year

Spies - Really disappointed after the big hype up

Rossi - did good job holding up Spies. He faded in the last few laps

Who's going to say Pedrosa's injury claims are ......... Not another shoulder strength issue is it??

Seriously though, it was a shame that he couldn't keep it up as it would have been an interesting finish. Not sure how much pace Stoner really had though.

Excellent race to start the year, and the best race of the day.

Stoner was brilliant today, probably the most relaxed i've ever seen him and his most mature win to date. Lorenzo rode a champions race, excellent job getting the best out of his machines advantages and getting amongst the Hondas.

I'm a little worried about Dani Pedrosa, its a shame to see people on here critisizing him already. He did significantly better than the other injured riders on the grid and talks about it far less. But hopefully today's issue is not still nerve damage from last years crash, if that issue lingers it could affect this season. He looked as good today as he ever has in motogp in terms of hunger, fight and willingness to push

Well said. I was very impressed with the way Dani rode before he started fading

Having given such praise to Lorenzo for such a decent ride, i think it's worth adding that Yamahas disadvantage is obviously not as great as it seemed in testing. With Sepang and Qatar being two of the tracks with the most significant straight sections, Yamaha and Lorenzo can be optimistic that they might have a fair crack at the title yet.

Spies: where were you?

I wondered if thats why Stoner ran in P2 for a while? It would give him the advantage at the end when he may have needed it.

I hate to say this about Dani b/c it will only stir the pot, but his pace is a farce. His chassis derivation allegedly loads the front end to keep the bike down under acceleration, then they crank the wick up in hopes that he can break away and win from the front. It was entertaining when no one knew whether or not the fuel computer was going to shut him down, but the fuel computer gets him every race. His pace has been dropping off a cliff in the late laps for a while. Laguna 2009 was probably the most striking example of his fuel-nanny shutting the bike down in the closing stages.

Ah, it's great to have the bikes back with us! Top ride from Stoner, he showed a lot of guile and confidence to hold back like that early on. Not his typical Qatar race at all.

Lorenzo rated that as the best ride of his career in his interview with Spanish TV, better than any of his victories last season. He said it was a miracle he didn't crash, as he started to lose the front on numerous occasions. Jerez could be an awesome race this year.

As for Pedrosa, he must be gutted. The problems with his arm started in warm-up and effectively ruined the race for him. He was on the verge of tears during his interview and no better on the podium. Interestingly, Puig was questioning him in parc fermé and asked Dani about the location of problem, pointing to Dani's left forearm, and Dani just nodded. My gut reaction is lack of fitness due to his break from training. I hope that's all, otherwise this could be a very hard year for him.

Also, well done Marco Simoncelli for not killing anybody. Classy.

Agree.

Stoner gets a handshake from Vale.

Lorenzo gets... nuttin' from Vale.

Stoner was magnificent.

Lorenzo displayed majestic racecraft.

Twas good to see Rossi making the most of it. His start was seriously ballsy!

Glad to see Dovi not cowed by Furballecelli.

Pieman - a poor start - but he kept his head down and did his thing.

Hated to see De Puniet go down. Glad he's okay.

Pedro is sulking as usual but will feel better once Puig gives him a nice massage.

Don't nobody dare say this was a boring race.

Effective summary.

I would only add - was that a front end save by Rossi when pushing real hard (when Spies finally made it stick). If so, that has to (further) undermine confidence.

Stoner tours around, then pulls the pin on lap 12 when he see's Lorenzo gaining...game over.

Lorenzo...great race, and as commentators mentioned, Jerez will be interesing as handling is a premium there, the YamerHammers could be favorites.

Interesting none of us thought to question Honda's overall race pace with fuel consumption in mind....this season might be interesting after all.

agreed. the fact that he was pushing as hard as he was definitely says a ton about rossi. he wasn't going down without a fight. i don't take anything away from spies. rossi IS rossi. duck or not.

good start of the season. lorenzo is a champion for a reason. should be good battles all season long!
