motoGP 2011 Rd 1 Qatar

Rog,

They have been a couple for a while and have often been seen in and around gyms on Sydney's northern beaches during the off season.

Oh, and Rog, I will try to send you a file that I am sure you will like of Lauren (otherwise called LEGZ11) as she appeared in a Motorcycle Awareness Advert for the Motorcycle Council of NSW (I will try to send the uncensored version)

What if Rossi had used the other package and Hayden the standard one? Then wouldn't anybody say Rossi recieved the new thing?

Dont riders and their teams decide what to bring and ride before every gp?

But that would be the normal sort of team orders if you don't have enough of the new stuff to go around - it goes to the number 1 rider. Maybe you think it sucks but its happened many times before and in the future. Here it seems they only have two sets of the new subframes (what I read, dunno if true) that were manufactured to Rossi/JB's feedback and they go to Hayden instead? That really looks like Rossi/Ducati don't believe its the fastest setup they have right now. And if it isn't the fastest but they still want to use it then its a small jump to the new frame having more potential but currently unsorted, and Hayden being deputized willing or not to put the miles in during races to get Rossi's new frame sorted...

Here's a lap-by-lap plot of the top three rider's times. You can see that just as Casey pulls the pin, Pedrosa falters significantly.

Later we see Stoner adjusting his speed to maintain a comfy lead over Pedrosa and then J-Lo.

Ask yourself, what is Ducati's intention regarding Hayden? Are they interested in his competitive performance now? Or are his results of no consequence, but only serve to provide a test bed while Rossi is at very least given a chance to post "decent" results.

Probably correct...but suprising? not really.

A lot of the fruits of this years efforts will be seen by BOTH riders next year.

Ducati probably weighed up the pro's and cons, and decided it was best all round to perhaps sacrifice haydens 6th/7th/8th place finish in the overall title standings to make further progress for the bike next season, or maybe even later this season.

Rossi was always going to be the priority.

Will be interesting to see if swift progress is made this way.....my dad reckons not, i dont follow hayden too much but from what i am told he isnt that great in the garage dept. Mind you i guess the computers can give the required results.

Sorry just thinking out loud.

I think any stoner fans casting doubt on dani having physical problems have very short memories which don't extend back to even 2009, let alone 2008. Stoner in 2008 and rossi in 2010 also demonstrated that injuries don't hurt as much when you are winning, so dani faltering when passed is a natural reaction and not suspicious in my view.Stoner is also directly quoted in the sydney press this morning as per bunyip's link that he decided to push when he saw dani had problems. The other thing is that dani whilst fragile physically is a warrior, and has raced with horrendous injuries in the past.

I guess it is possible though that arm/nerve problems compounded dani's and/or the honda's frequent previous problems with maintaining pace late in races, and that some of dani's despair was because rather than slowing the honda in stoner's hands appeared to be getting stronger as the race progressed.

I am not sure what to make of casey's pronouncements post race; he perhaps was just telling the truth as he often does by proclaiming he had plenty in hand and was now following mick doohan's advice about winning at the slowest possible speed (a dictum of jack brabham's many years before mick I believe), but if so leaving the opposition guessing may have been sounder strategically.

Lorenzo showed great tenacity, but I'm not convince that Yamaha is as bad as he keeps trying to convince us (and some have entirely swallowed). He may have been so happy because perhaps he feared (from indications of Honda domination during testing) he wouldn't be able to defend his title against Stoner & his teammates, but to his relief, the racing proved otherwise and I think the celebration, though odd when not winning, may have been simply a sigh of relief surfacing as a flash of emotion.

Despite being a Lorenzo fan, and being very impressed with his Qatar ride (he did significantly better than i thought he would) i was slightly skeptical about his interviews and comments overall this weekend. I don't doubt that he was thrilled to have such a good race and finish where he did, but i don't think he is an ..... and he will have seen the long run times and had an idea of what he and his bike would be capable of. For me it seemed like another lesson that he has learned very thoroughly from watching Rossi, if you play down your chances, have a good ride, celebrate a podium as if you have won and tell the world it was one of your best efforts ever, suddenly you are an over achiever and people will be admiring your heroic ride instead of the comfortable but expected victor. Textbook.

I"ll have to go back and watch the race on DVR, but the moment where Rossi almost bins it is here....is his arm rubbing against Spies tire?

Rossi is so desperate to get back on the Yamaha he is tring to leap onto it mid race?

The Bubba Stewart syndrome. Stewart is so much faster than the competition, its almost not fair, but he feels like he has to ground the competition into dust and ends up throwing it away and missing chunks of seasons. Bubba, Casey, a 2 second win pays the same points as a 10 second win. Then again, some riders lose focus if their not WFO and on the razors edge, its the only way they know how to ride.

Ive heard several racers say this. Vale included !

Mentally weak refers to his inability to strike back once passed by another rider. He consistently is able to hold a very fast pace when at the front but as soon as he gets passed he drops back. This has nothing to do with injury. If this is not a mental weakness please explain exactly what it is as I am very interested to hear your explanation of this frequent occurrence.

It is then human nature to find an excuse for the drop in performance so as you do not have to admit to yourself that you have a mental strength issue. In this instance a recovering injury appears to have become very painful after just 12 laps where it did not seem to be an issue when doing 50 laps day after day.

are you sure of this? did dani tell you or are you an on-screen analyst of babel proportions?

which is more tiring? 50 test laps with how many of those being outlaps, in-laps etc? OR 12 laps of flat out adrenaline fuelled racing at the limit to try and break/keep stoner behind you? i know the answer because i saw it on sunday.....

Really enjoyed the race, best race of the day which is unusual, glad casey didnt just sod off, happy to see George beat pedders who's a trier but thats all he'll be imo!

Just looking forward to Jerez and seeing if not having an extra 2 days of free practice a week before the race will have any significant impact on what happens during the race.

I noticed Rossi's Ducati on the grid had that foil cover over the tank before the race, are Ducati still having fuel problems.

I know the Honda's run very close to the edge when it comes to fuel & im sure Yamaha are not far off either but anyone know where Ducati are?

That's a common trick to keep the fuel cell cool.
