2005 Japanese Grand Prix – 18/09/2005:
Pole position: Loris Capirossi ITA Ducati Marlboro 1min 46.363secs
Fastest lap: Loris Capirossi ITA Ducati Marlboro 1min 47.968secs

From what i saw... the first riders got their spots with qualy tyres... The best pace seemed to me the one of Capirossi...

Loris claims he is by far and away the fastest on race tires. We'll see what the rest can do to reel him in.

Loris is a tank !
Good to see Hopkins running good even more so on free practice 1 hope he can pull something out for Suzuki and what about those Suzuki wildcard..very good effort i say.

And he is but no by that much. As far as I can see he is the only one down in '47 lap on race tires. But Rossi is not far behind with a string of mid-low 48's compared to Capirossi's even longer string of low 48's. His fastest laps was on a 3 lap stint on a fresh pair of tires, probably with minimum gas on the tank.
Capirossi can be extreemly fast but has a habit of unconsistency. Right now he might be just a fraction faster than Rossi, but that might change.
Even now I wouldn't bet on Capi. Race, traffic, tire wear...

My predictions:

- Rossi
- Capirossi
- Melandri

Pedrosa seems to strugle with his injury :-(

HEY CHECK OUT THE FREE PRACTICE ROUND 2 ROSSI AHEAD OF THEM ALL AGAIN. LOOKING FOR HIM TO KICK A@@ BIG TIME.

Merged R-46's topic into this one.............
Ben.

If qualifying again be cancelled, and free practice times not improve on Saturday morning, Ducati's Loris Capirossi would be the biggest loser since he was fastest of all on race tyres, but was bumped back to seventh by those using qualifiers at the end of the Friday afternoon session. That could be the reason why he seemed almost angry to have been knocked from the top of the timesheets. And with the unpredictable weather we might have some surprises.

Loris was right he was the fastest on race tyres.... he did longer runs and had a good race pace. But we'll have to see..

As for Pedrosa he struggled more with the bike pb then with his injury...

We have to see how things are going in the qualify session and then we'll talk

Looks to me that the Q-tires now are so different from the race tyres that most want to test how the bike work with them before they go out on the last 15 min of the only QP. Considering last QP that might have been a good idea for the Duc guys as well.

Longer and few stints tell me that Capirossi could find little to improve on, and that's ok but it also means that the others have the most improvment potential tomorrow.

I tend to ignore q tyres & look instead at the lap analysis on the moto gp site, Capi is indeed fastest on race rubber but Vale isn't far off & I expect a close battle between these 2 for the win

if capi gets a good start, he's got this race in the bag.

How stoked was Loris when he banged in his pole lap!?........man, he was acting like the race was won already............I love Loris, he comes across as a great guy

I think Rossi is gonna need to hitch a tow rope onto Loris' Duke tomorrow! He pulled out a monster effort to get the bike on the first row, and even the commentors on eurosport said he looked like he was getting his breath back when he was doing a practice start.

Good to see the green machines doing well, should spice it up a bit.

Looking forward to the race.......should be a cracker, for a change
