I cannot speak about anyone else's experience. I have met most of the riders in the AMA paddock and my experiences with Mladin have always been pleasant and he has always been a gentleman. Maybe it is the approach I take with the riders, I treat them like regular guys and they return the favor. The truth is that everyone in the paddock respects Mat Mladin as the champion that he is. I wonder how many people think he is an ....... have ever spoken with the man and have actually shook hands with him, or are they basing their opinion on what they heard someone else say?

Exactly, most people have never met the dude. This is exactly why, when he makes a public appearance or press release, that he needs to be careful becaue this is all that 99% of us have to base his persona on. And by the way, if you shook hands with him and talked to him for 2 minutes (especially after a win or loss), I hardly classify that as getting to know someone.

I shook hands with him and spoke with him for the first time at a coffee shop. He was pointed out to me by a pro racer I am pals with. We spoke about the upcoming season and his prospects, and yes it was for more than two minutes. I have since spoken to him on several occasions. I think the reason he may come across as a hard ... is that he despises the media with a passion. Mat Mladin is a good guy!

Well sometimes the media is our only input on what these guys are like. I can see Maladin telling the media to .... off, I understand this. But he has to understand that the fans of the sport will read and hear what he is saying and construct an opinion of him. Some people think that media is part of the job some don't. Obviously he can't meet everyone in the same fasion as you were lucky enough to, so he needs to reward his fans and act like he is talking to them instead of some ....... behind the mic which is usually how he comes accross. Isn't that how it usually goes.

Perfect example is Nicky Hayden. The media tried with all their might to start some saga between him and Pedrosa and he stayed away from it. It was class and showed a lot of strengh in character.

Hi Ogunski, welcome back. Haven't read you for a while buddy.

Yeah, I remember you had mentioned this some time ago. He may be a good guy as you say, its just most all the appearance and experiences I witnessed personally, the guy seemed like a bit of a ..... (And I'm not alone).

To be fair, I have admired his racing commitment more recently and respect his work ethic. Though in light of the recent pole by Spies, it really makes me wonder what he might have accomplished on the world stage had he given it a chance.

^^^Hey Jumkie and Sack, I have been busy out of the country making my living as a consultant. You both make very good points about how he comes across most of the time. Maybe when he stops racing he will let people see the nicer side of himself.
