He then added that the Superstock-like rules may not slow down the Suzukis, which have won the past 46 Superbike races. “I’m not sure if the answer to the their problem that they’ve been trying to figure out for so long as to how to stop Suzuki is to go about it the way that they’re doing it.”
Mate, in the end I think, in the end one thing about this team that they’ve done better than any other team and any other manufacturer is figure out how to get around problems,” he said. “That’s why we’ve dominated for the last decade. They’ve had the two best riders and they’ve had a team whose figured out how to make a motorcycle work. I’m not sure why that will change in 2009. But, anyway, maybe it will.”

Pretty much what ive been saying all along. 2 best riders, great platform and a great team and VIOLA,46 straight wins. They are still going to have the best rider,a great platform and a great team. The beatings will continue at a severe rate.

Honestly,i dont think so.Im on record as saying i think Yates will finish a very distant second to Mladin. If not Yates, you have Bostrom,Hodgson,Hayes, and Hayden.None of those guys would be considered new blood since they are all over 30.The only youngster that might make some noise is Blake Young. He ran a respectably close pace to Yates last year in SS.

My vote goes to the Boz for runner up. Factory ride and more talent than Yates.

But does he have the desire? Boz seems like the type that gets frustrated when there is a lack of success, will he be able to handle the possible ups and downs? That said, he and Hayes on the same team, new Yamaha, some serious potential and serious unknowns. Personally, as I have said before, I just don't want an all Mladin show, but anyone betting against one would be foolish.

There are a few observations that I have taken from this.

1. Maladin is a true .......
2. He's still pissed about his disqulification last year
3. He's pissed about the rule changes
4. He has somethig to prove now
5. He will most likely annialate the field

I think that he would be at least top 10 in WSBK if not top 5. Of course this is debateable, but depending on how well Spies does, would be a pretty good indicator on where he stands. I think that he is a damn good rider.

Exactly! Agree with everything you said.

I don't think it's frustration over lack of success, I think he always suffered from lack of focus. He was always thinking about which model he was going to go bang, what exotic place he was going to go climb, what gnarly coast he was going to surf or what was next for the Boz Bros. operation. From the bits I've heard from him in the past year or two, he's focused on riding again and actually enjoying himself at the track and that's when he goes the fastest. I'm not saying he'll suddenly be 2001 BB, but he might be 1999 or 2004 era BB.

Which sport? AMA? No - unless I get pay TV there's no AMA on tv here. Even when I did have pay TV the coverage was from Speed - a worse coverage of motorsport I don't think I've seen. Plus the fact, the tracks mostly suck, and the superbike series is boring doesn't add up to me bothering to download races off the net.

To be fair, it had VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH LACK OF FOCUS. Ben Bostrom had severe back issues and some health problems. He discussed it briefly when talking about his renewed success in the supersport class.

True.

Son of Doo, I almost never miss a race within driving distance of SoCal. This means I see about 4 to 5 AMA races live. And of course, I try to get the full experience every time. I stand in lines to meet riders (almost never to get an autograph) but just to wish them luck and ask a question or two. I try to make it to all the trophy ceremonies (which if you can imagine almost always has involved Mladin for the last decade). I'd have to say I'm in the 'Mladin is an .......' camp. The man makes it a point to take digs at other riders, show very little approachability with fans, becomes openly annoyed with fans when they ask him questions. He acts like he has a cab waiting when you try to approach the guy or ask for a pic. His expression make you feel like you the fan is a piece of .... to be bothering. I know these guys need their space, like every celebrity deserves, but there is also something to be said for fan appreciation. (At least that's the vibe I get, and I am NOT alone.) He reminds me of Migs actually--talks .... in a way that's pseudo-ambiguous but then tries to rebuff it when called on the carpet.

One particular instance that stands out in my mind was during a trophy ceremony at Cali Speedway. Eric Bostrom had challenged him during the better part of the superbike race in which Eric was running a Kawa 750 (for some reason factory Kawasaki ran a 750 but can't remember why). Anyway, Eric mentioned in a prerace interview that it might be difficult keeping up with Mat since he was down on power. Mladin took issue with this and proceeded in saying something to the affect that it wouldn't have mattered if Eric had a 1000, he still would have won. He said this on the podium! (Not a place to be ungracious). To this I could here many around me muddle under their breath, "what an ......."; my reaction was disgust and I actually yelled out, "Ungracious .......!". Now if you've ever been around Eric Bostrom, you will know that the guy is a humble, carefree, easygoing type of guy. I don't think he has a bad bone in his body. For those who saw the race, many were thrilled that he rode over his head to give the fans a show as he battled with Mladin. But to hear Mat talk .... was a bit too much to bare.

Anyway, I have more stories. I realize Mladin is one of your own country man, just so you know, its nothing to do with him being an Aussie. As most every Aussie i've ever met or seen race are great guys. But Mladin seems a man angry most all the time.

Fair enough - every country has their fair share of fuckwits. Asked the question, and you gave me a fair appraisal. Like I said, I rarely get to watch the races, and for the last 3 - 4 years, I haven't seen any. It's a pity as I haven't really seen Spies ride, and see how good he actually is. I suppose I'll find out this year.

The back problems account for his 2005 and 2006 seasons. In 2007 you could see him coming around again, he actually put up a fight against Spies and Yates in the Superstock class. I'm talking 2000, 2002-2004 and 2006. He openly admitted that his first season in WSB (2000) he had far too much of a social life to concentrate on the racing. After that he wasn't a mainstay of the European club scene anymore, but rather took to climbing and surfing and I remember reading remarks from Ducati about how they wished he wouldn't do them so much. Obviously they didn't want him to get hurt but I think there was also some desire for him to ride more. Then in 2006 he started Boz Bros. and that took up a lot of time.

Yeah, he had some injury trouble but that only started in 2005 and there were a few years of poor results between 2001 and then. He's one of my favorite riders but looking objectively at it, I think he wanted to do too much outside riding motorcycles.

I remember this. I have a hard time calling Mladin an ....... because he's a fierce competitor and generally tells it like it is. But he has made a few remarks towards both Bostroms and Hodgson that were unprovoked and frankly uncalled for. I think his criticism of the series is justified and I think it's a breath of fresh air. But when he talks about the Bostroms or Hodgson or Duhamel or Spies I just wish he'd keep his mouth shut.

People in the paddock have learned to accept Mladin for who and what he is. He speaks his mind, good or bad. Sometimes what he says, needs to be said. Most of the time he should just shut the .... up.He has said many times, Im not here to make friends. His attitude would fit in GP,Primma Donna. You always know where you stand with Mladin which people can learn to accept and maybe even respect. On the other hand, you have riders like Miguel, who smile in your face and stab you in the back as you walk away, the political type. Those people rarely gain respect.

I always love to see the, "He just telling it like it is" arguement. You can tell it like it is without being an ........ There is a fire that burns in that dude and maybe he needs it to be as competitive as he is. He needs to learn not to where it on his sleeve. I think that he is "The more drama the better" type. He seems to create and feed off of it. Not my type of sportsman.

If Mladin keeps it up, I can see some more disqualifications in his future.
