Misano 2010 -- Predictions - Practice - Quali Thread

I think the season has lived up to the expectations with the new rules....the spec tire, fuel limit, major electronics, and now engine limit. It was supposed to be a show down between Lorenzo and Rossi carried over from last year, and then Mugello attacked Rossi. The real excitement was now Rossi breaking his leg and seeing if he would return and in top form.....then his announcement to switch to Ducati. Spies getting pole this year on a sat bike as a rookie was really awesome, but I was more impressed with Stoner doing that same feat on a more powerful, less electronic controlled bike with a prototype tire he tested and chose. He did this in his 2nd MotoGP race and with probably less support than Spies is getting from Yamaha (since Lorenzo has all but clinched the title and Rossi has one foot out the door).

IMO the electronics have brought the grid closer together creating more "aliens". Don't get me wrong, Spies is a fantastic rider and will be great, but is he really Rossi/Lorenzo/Pedrosa/Stoner level right now on a true Tech 3 spec bike "with only a couple factory upgrades". I think the engine limit is nowshowing it's ugly head and the top guys will ride now to get max points without blowing up or risk crashing out to screw themselves out of the current race points and the following race points from busting up their last engine.....Spies has nothing to loose running full tilt, but everything to gain. Indy was a great example of this.

I predict Rossi, Pedrosa, Lorenzo, Stoner, Spies/Hayden.....and Capirossi to complete 5 laps.

Really, the only ones who have anything to lose are Pedrosa and Lorenzo. What does Stoner and Rossi have to lose, they are neither one in the title hunt and both have fresh new contracts with different teams. How much more of a green light to go balls out could you get

ok sorry guys:

Lorenzo

Pedrosa

Rossi

Dovi

Spies

Hayden

Boring sums up this year for racing thus far. Even if Rossi was dominating in points, Id still say its boring. To have a single rider dominate is boring thats the problem, and if we have to watch Lorenzo loose a championship due to engine rules, that sucks even worse. Its like in 2007 when Stoner walked all over everyone that was neat to see, but the racing was exteremly boring. Now 2006 when Nicky took the title with 1-2 points, it was constant battles all season. Toss is a Pedrosa Torpedo and you got the makings of a great season. You guys cant tell me that when Rossi went down in the last race you didnt jump up and scream, it simply was exciting.

One thing I love about WSBK there's twice as much racing going on, seriously, twice as much. MotoGP should do 2 rounds at each track like WSBK. Oh wait no, then it would be twice as boring.....LOL....

No doubt if your a Hayden fan. I instantly started doing the math. What was funny was the race when Pedro torpedoed Hayden, we were setting at the Deals Gap resort, which is a part of the country that is Hayden fan first, whoever second. There was probably fifty to sixty people jammed in the restaurant and when Pedro took out Hayden, it was total silence except for one dude from Canada who jumped with joy at the prospect of Rossi winning another title. When he realized the rest of the crowd was not sharing in his enthusiasm, he started slinking towards the door. I guess he thought their might be a lynching. After he escaped, then everyone turned their stunned disbelief into outrage towards Pedro. If Pedrosa had been available that day, there probably would have been a lynching

no wether your a fan of him or not it sure made the championship.....interesting. More so than a guy with over 100 point lead.

From GpOne:

""As always, Italian manger Carlo Pernat shares his brutally honest opinion about the Grand Prix of Indianapolis with GPone. This time he had words of praise for Dani Pedrosa, shared his view of the Dovizioso situation at Honda, and judged Rossi and Stoner's performances as sub par.

“It was a very hot grand prix – Pernat told us - everyone underestimated Pedrosa from a psychological standpoint. We all knew he was very strong technically, but mentally he has improved to a level equal to the others. Honda have given him a missile which he has found a way to ride, but Andrea isn't able to ride it in the same way. This is a problem for Andrea, because even if he has a contract in his favor, he will have to accept, and quickly, that he will be moved to Team Gresini alongside Simoncelli, although still on a factory bike of course."

So Pernat's advice to Dovi is, essentially, to stop fighting it and accept his fate. He then added:

“One of the more negative performances was that of Stoner, who has been crashing a lot this year. He isn't sorted out mentally, and after all of these years racing, if he isn't mentally strong now he never will be. Let's hope that Honda made a good decision. They will be getting a good rider, but they will have to work with him regarding the psychological aspect. Then there is Rossi: I think that Rossi made a big mistake by wanting to come back too soon. He was supposed to return to racing at Misano, but he couldn't stand sitting at home and watching Lorenzo win all the time. He rushed his return and now is paying the consequences. Physically I don't think he could do any better than what he has shown." "

no sugar coating here..... i agree.

Was waiting for someone to do the math. Been done. At this point Lorenzo will win the championship even if he finishes 3rd in every remaining race.

Lorenzo and Pedrosa have points to lose possibly hurting their hunt for the title against each other.

Stoner is not in the chase, but he still wants to save face taking a couple wins with him before heading to Honda.

Rossi is still chasing his records.....wants to add to the win/podium count and also to keep his consecutive top 3 season finishes. He also wants to beat Lorenzo with his M1 in a since, getting in the last word before leaving.

Stoner and Rossi are both tied with 20 wins in the 800cc class.....I bet they both want to take the overall record for 800cc wins (each going to a new bike for the final season in that class structure.)
