Michelin wins tire contract by default

17 inch wheels too hey? interesting, this will throw a number of spanners into the works.

Sounds like Michelin is dictating policy, which i guess they can do since they have Dorna over a barrel. Now the teams get to spend a few million to figure out a new wheel size.

With the 17" Size Tire being thrown out there, I was curious as to what size was currently used, and it wasn't mentioned in the article. Currently MotoGP is using 16.5" Tires. Just thought I'd post this in case someone had the same question as me. Thanks for posting that Povol. Maybe Michelin will bring back that structurally harder front tire that Casey Stone and all the cool kids were asking for!

Current MotoGP Spec:
Front Tyre: 125/600R 16.5
Rear Tyre: 190/650R 16.5

**For Comparison**
2014 Yamaha R6 Tire Spec:
Front Tyre: 120/70-ZR17 58W
Rear Tyre: 180/55-ZR17 73W

Time to break out the old VR spec tires. I'm sure they have plenty of data. Lorenzo thought the new Marc/HRC spec Bstones were bad, he's in for another rude awakening.

Are those anything like the Stoner / HRC spec Bridgestones in 2012.

Truth be told, I'd say the new 2014 Bstones are closer to VR spec, which happen to be perfect for Factory RCVs (intended or unintended). Marc being able to use them perfectly. Certainly the tire has been developed away from last year where Jlo could use them as a serious weapon (see races Jlo was unhurt, especially Valencia 013) No doubt the tire has changed (I'm sure even you can see that). I like to think this is by design (as are all purposefully managed systems). To play off your post: like the spec Bridgestones of 2008. You may choose to believe its by happenstance. My tendency is to question the official version (especially when the official version has been exposed for ........ on several occasions)... yours may be to swallow whole.

So is it a Dorna HRC conspiracy or not. Or did Dorna's hate of Stoner in 2012 override any collusion that they and HRC had. For Christ sakes, how many bases are you going to try and cover here. Pick a conspiracy and stick with it. So far we have HRC/Dorna, HRC/ Marquez/ Dorna with a side dish of maybe Dorna/Rossi that just so happens works better for Marquez. Marquez won the championship on Lorenzo centric tires, now he is dominating on a totally different tire , could it be that he is just that good. Anyone who follows this sport knows that the learning curve from the first year to the second is immense. When you win a title in a learning year, it means you are special ,whats happening today was almost predictable. I dont care what tire or spec bike you put him on, he is going to be the best rider on the track. He proved that in Moto2 on a bike with spec tires, spec engine, and an inferior chassis.

Even more problems for cash-strapped Yamaha. Honda's checkbook will rise to the occasion; everyone else will be scratching their heads for the 2015 season. Lot's of tire controversy for next year - for sure. Michelin were doing a crap job when last they were on the scene. They haven't been keeping up for all these seasons and I can't see how they will get up to speed before three quarters of the way through the season.... and that's if they get lucky.

Professor Dr. Dean Povol, the complexity of life needs to be explained by an official version from Fox News for you to "understand" and believe it. Whats the common denominator above? Hint, I highlighted it for you. You managed to type it out 5 times, just in the sniped alone, and you still missed it?! Hahaha, ....... thats some special kinda dumb. Carmelo's Dorna runs GP like McMahon's WWE, but you want to think its Hulk Hogan/Steve Austin/John Cena/ pulling the strings? You poor dumb ......., though admittedly, there certainly must be some bliss to your simpleton perception of life. You're still waiting for the official press release from Dorna admitting they engage in 'king building' by any means of rigging the sport to the extent they can; as much as you believe Bush attacked Iraq to "liberate its people" simply because that was the official press release your Republican handlers manipulated you to believe. Guess what, they (those in charge) are managing and manipulating as they see fit (oh I know, you don't get it).

Dorna spent a lot of time king building with VR, but they got the new 2.0 version now. VR still selling lots of hats though numbnuts. Its an epic 1-2 dream for now. Stoner and Lorenzo, two of the most impressive talents are simply not that popular, though served the purpose of heels/villains (like all good contrived dramas). Wasn't it you who posted that manipulated video clip of Lorenzo in a heel's light)? When your business is to sell TV contracts to companies relying on masses to tune in for the race (knowing nothing about how the results are actually achieved) popularity matters.
