my real first topic discussion, so sorry if its crap,
but i feel that melandri on the gp8 will proberly win or be close to winning the championship next year, he is what capporossi used to be! kick the man hard and he returns with good positions look a laguna this year! etc etc with a factory bike i think he will fly, or at least give stoner a very good run for his money?
any one go tthe samem idea as me?

i like marco and i hope he does shine on the duc but, ducati do have a similar attitude to riders as honda apparently, so we will have to see how he fits in there.

I am sure he will be competitive with stoner. Whether ducati will be competitive with honda I suspect we will not know till the first race next year as I think if they do have developments up their sleeve they may not show too much as this might give honda an incentive to throw more money at their bike.

If the michelins were really as bad this year on the yamaha as rossi says he may be able to pull off something magical on bridgestones although it sounds as though he will have an engine down on power.

My feeling is that is Marco starts high and gets on a roll he can string together a championship. But he needs to keep on it and not have random weekend where he jsut doesnt get it done. Whatever happens hes gonna be fast.

i like marco's attitude on the track when he's going for it but can he do it consistently?

he's won 1 WC before but that was now a long time ago and doesn't really count for anything anymore.i hope he can start and carry on well at ducati but he will have lots of hard work ahead....

and the valencia test times are far too early to read anything into and IMO dont count towards him being able to do well or not.....

lets hope he can run at the front in 2008 with the other contenders.

He has mad skill, remember that one handed powerslide at Phillip Island.

I would love nothing more than him and rossi battling it out for the championship.

Marco seems to get his .... on when Valentino is around him, like at Donnington. Its kinda funny but he knows Vale is the big boy in Italy and hes the small one right now.

The Marlboro Ducati team Melandri/Stoner is a solid team.
1,2 in the championship next year is a real possibility.
Rossi on Bridgestones ,all the seat swapping and new faces, satellite teams looking stronger, motogp 08 should be a beauty....

The problem for Marco next year is that Casey is going to be fast straight away and Marco will need a few races to get up to speed.
I think that he has a strong chance to be a top contender but he will need the other guys to hold Casey off at first.
If Casey gets a jump on him it will be awfully hard for him to catch up.
I think he has a better shot in 09

on his day marco can beat em all..... on his day. he needs to be more consistent than he has been in the past. he's a hot & cold racer & he needs to get rid of the cold. hopefully he can get to grips with the duke & be up there fightin every round!

Melandri has to beat Stoner and Pedrosa first ... so I'm not thinking he's going to make it next year .... matter of fact I don't see Marco as ever achieving WC. There are just too many others who are looking better, or getting better...

I do hope he does good on the Duc. though. Can't see im pushing Dani or Casey much though.

How can you say that when hes never had a factory bike.

2005 Melandri 2nd
2006 Melandri 4th
2007 Melandri 5th

..... can't see that a lessening of performance will transfer to a sudden win on a Duc. ..... if he was on the way up maybe?? ....

He will be on the factory Ducati this season though.
This is his big chance and I think he has a heap of ability.
It will all depend on if he can come to terms with the Ducati.
Loris certainly struggled with it, but seems quick straight away on the suzuki.

JUST MORE EXCUSES. no not because he cant adapt, he dont have the support, not because its a new bike

JUST FACE IT MELANDRI DONT HAVE THE TALENT TO WIN A WC.

He's already won one, so i would disagree with you there. Marco has it in him, its just up to his consistency. He needs to put a season together like he did in 2005, that was very consistent and it got him his best placing to date in motogp

What are you on about?
He's had one test on the bike for goodness sake.
Be careful you may have to wipe a lot of egg off your face before too long.

hes won a few races in what 5 years in motogp? and everyone is lauding him as a potential WC. yeah i guess anything is possible. hayden won it with 2 wins.

hell evan tamada's won 2 races, but who thinks he can win a WC?

casey spent the whole of last season on his arse, no one thought he'd be world champ this year.

i reckon marco will consistently beat casey this season, and we get the chance to see how good casey can develop a bike, beings he'll be lead rider this season.

It's a good topic ninja. I wouldn't bet against him winning a race or two but that championship might be a long shot. Then again, do any of us really have a clue?

This time 2006 if you'd touted Stoner as the 07 champ on the Ducati, everybody on here, myself included would've told you to wise up? In 2006 Stoner was inconsistent at best. You could've even said he was too wild, too unpredictable, a la Elias and you'd be right there too. But look what happenned. It's true that Marco has been inconsistent and hasn't really recaptured the form he showed in 2005 as runner up to Rossi. Barrymachine put down the champoinship positions in the last three years, 2,4 and 5. I don't think you can take those results at face value. I'd put the 4th down to Bridgestone not being on the case at all in 2006 except for just a few tracks. As for the 5th this year, Bridgestone or not, we all know how good the sattelite Hondas were.
If Marco can keep himself from geting injured, something he hasn't been that good at in the big class, and Ducati/Bridgestone go forward over the winter, then he'll be involved in the race for the title, I don't know who'll win it though
