Louis Salom passed away in crash

Completely to blame. I have to question whether or not they should even race at this track. I won't be complaining if they chose not to.

Exactly.

Not like we need all these races in Spain anyway. Wouldn't be a loss to skip Catalunya unless they bring back gravel traps. I'm sure they could find another track in Europe without too much.

Actually they should go back to Jarama.

Designed by the same guy who created Suzuka. Love the way that track flows. Is it still used?

This sucks!!!

I had a dream this morning prior to waking at 2:45am to get ready for work. In the dream there was a choir type song being sung. The song was a tribute to Tito Rabat! I thought to myself when I woke & remember the dream. Well that was a strange one................ I hope he does not have another fall today. Only to come across this SAD news, when I went onto motomatters to get caught up on today events.

Really really sad news

Rest in peace Luis Salom

That was horrible. RIP Luis Salom
I just heard Vale's comments on the passing. Such kind and thoughtfull words. It made me want to cry.
I feel that at times like these, the GP world is so fortunate to have such a beloved and passionate ambassador for the sport. With his leadership he will encourage the paddock that Luis would want the show to go on.
Race In Peace Young Luis. Im sure your battling Rainey and Simoncelli as we speak.

I know you are a troll account, but for one second could you just not do it?

Also, Rainey is still alive ........

Must you create conflict in every thread. Im giving my heartfelt condolences.
Im pretty sure Rainey died at Imola

The other week I was recalling his press conference following the second place in the opening round at Losail. He was tearful and emotional saying that during his lowest ebb, disillusioned with racing and about to quit his Mother had urged him to believe in himself - he dedicated the rostrum to her.

Terribly sad.

RIP.

There's a time and a place for banter/being a wind up merchant. This isn't it.
Think this is the time to treat some with the contempt they deserve and ignore them. Although I do agree with your sentiment JPS.

You're replying to the wrong person.

You people are sick. Some of you are advocating for the death video to be released while I express my feelings and Im the bad guy.
This place is truly opposite world.

If race direction and the safety council know these F1 corners are a problem why dont they create a temporary dirt and gravel runoff. Supercross can build a whole track and tear it down in days. This is just one corner. There's got to a more feasible solution than airfences

It's fascinating to read all the comments on several different web sites. Apparently everybody is now aware about "safety" and how this sport is "dangerous" and how these riders take "risks" with their lives and how "anything" can happen on the track.

Moments of silence to come with spectators, "journalists", the paddock, and others looking glum about this tragic event, whilst some will certainly be of the ilk pretending to give a .... about "track safety". In the press conference yesterday, a "journalist" took issue with Lorenzo not referring to Rossi 'enough' when talking about the championship. So the "journalist" confronted Lorenzo, to which Lorenzo said he has been mentioning Rossi, and for the benefit of the "journalist" he obliged to reiterate that the title contenders includes Rossi. I've read this gripe on several comments sections by fans upset with Lorenzo, boppers feeling Lorenzo is "disrespecting" Rossi because he doesn't mention VR in the title hunt 'enough'. The point being, these "journalist" can confront Lorenzo over something so stupid meanwhile none have the balls to confront riders over issues that matter, like deliberately crashing out riders and calling for significant sanctions or accepting Rossi's response of supposedly "knowing nothing" about jeering of riders and cheering for ones when they crash as a direct negative affect of his baseless accusations. Ironically, the incident that took Salom's life happened right under the banner of the "46 fan club" which made me think, if Lorenzo or Marquez had crashed at turn 12, would they have cheered? Back to this "journalist", he had balls to confront Lorenzo because Rossi isn't being mentioned enough in regards to the title, but matters of life and death, well that just makes Rossi too uncomfortable.

We will read a whole bunch of fantastic heartfelt eulogies and human connections of tragedy and grief, some will be touching, I've already read a few that moved me, and some will be ........ pieces of croc tears and points about how he died doing what he loved glossing over the responsibility of the organizers to keep these competitors safe from the track and from themselves.

I'm reminded of these two contrasting quotes:

"Everyone is laughing, but it is not funny because we are playing with our lives and riding at 200mph. On bikes that are very powerful and very heavy. It is not mini-bikes. It is a dangerous sport, so you have to think what you do." Jorge Lorenzo

Lorenzo has become the pariah of the paddock, loved by few hated by most, including the media, his crime, speaking his mind about those riders who have done live threatening actions on the track, particularly Rossi. The fan reaction has been to prop up the perpetrator wilst bullying the voice of reason. No different than how Casey Stoner was made into the subject of hate because he spoke out against Rossi's dangerous move down the Corkscrew.

"This is racing." Valentino Rossi

Then after Sepang 2015, Rossi and his fans became "safety conscious". No, no, not aimed at Rossi, but at Marquez for 'riding dangerously' wilst passing cleanly, and the rationale that Rossi did the "safest thing" by taking Marquez out, because...'someone was going to get hurt if it continued.' This wasn't just said by clueless fans, but by paddock and racers that should know better. I expect many of these 'safety conscious' people to now shed some croc tears this weekend like they did at Sepang 2011.

I'm reading of the quick "fix" to make turn 12 safer. I have no idea how they arrived at this conclusion. The right turn into the chicane is still exactly at the entry point of the paved run off which is NOT adequate!

There are all kinds of scenario that could present a rider falling at the end of turn 12, like a blown tire, front end wash, stuck throttle (god forbid) etc. That short straight between 11 and 12 allows the riders to pick up significant speed!

I'll assume Barcelona is a modern city. There is a better solution! They could right now hire a pulverizer and turn that asphalt into gravel in a matter of an hour. I'm not kidding, I hired a pulverizer almost to the day a year ago. I had 3500sq ft pulverized into gravel of the same type and consistency as track gravel. It's not even expensive, it cost me $2500 to pulverize 3500 Sq ft. And I had it done in an hour!

KROPS, if you're still awake, talk to the safety people. Have them contact a company with this equipment. It can literally be done tonight or in the morning! I have video of this machine in action. It will turn that entire run off into gravel. You can even decide how small or large, how deep or shallow you what the gravel to become. This is an absolute viable solution and far better and SAFER than what they are proposing.

Jum, lets not forget these same folks jeers & mock Stoner for hanging up his boots. Outside of the 46 idol worship possie. Stoner make mention of the poor conditions the lower classes has to deal with. Which is some of the reason he quit motogp.

With the f1 never using that layout I don't understand why that bit of tarmac was laid. This should have never happened.
