Ben Bostrom, John Hopkins, Sylvain Guintoli, Roger Lee Hayden and Andrea Iannone have been named as possible riders for this second bike, man I'm getting pumped up for Laguna and things seem to be getting more exciting by the minute after today's great race. I wouldn't mind seeing Bostrom out there but I'd rather some some fresh new talent from moto 2.

Isn't Hopkins contracted to Suzuki?

(Suzuki BSB and emergency rider for Rizla)

When I told Arrabi, he replied, Austin must be orgasmic. But I'm thinking, the fanboy is probably suicidal too. But I guess there is still time to get here.

So is Bostrom going to bring a new/different group of fans and PR coverage than Hayden, Spies and Edwards or will the fans/PR of these riders just be spread over 4 riders now? Not sure of the lay of the land in this respect in the US.

For one, as with most nations, countrymen like to root for countrymen (the only exception I've seen is in the UK, most like Rossi).

Second, most people in the US are barely informed about GP, so there are not so many fans of particular riders, we just know its an American, and so rah rah. Nicky and Spies will get most of the cheers. But since Nicky has been sequestered on .... bikes under the shadow of preferred teammates, then Spies will probably take the lead this weekend. Bostrom has a lot of fans like an element of esthetic "coolness". Its a win for everybody really, and I don't see much of a down side unless he's last by a large margin. I have a bet with JohnnK, who thinks he will come last. So far I don't know what the wager is, but that's the bet. I think he won't come last, JK thinks he will. As you can see, its already garnering interest. Bostrom has had some good results here, as recent as last year he won the superbike race.

I think that you will lose your bet, and it's still a good thing. If it makes one person watch MotoGP who would otherwise not have watched, it's a win in my eyes.

DuHamel's wild-card had people talking (and many proclaiming that he would podium), even though it ended an embarrassment to him (in my eyes) it still drew attention to the game.

So it might bring some AMA fans over to MotoGP as well? If that is the case I can see some value.

He's been around for a long time but to me him riding or any other well known American, seems like it's just to add a little more excitement to the show for us American GP fans. Anyone familiar with Hayden should atl least remember the name Bostrom. I don't think he'll finish last either, he might beat Elias, but I don't see him having any great placing either. I know lots of people who don't follow GP but will watch this race just because it's at Laguna and they're familiar with the track, like my uncle who can care less for bikes(huge F1 ferrari alonso loving .... bopper) but he'll watch anything go at Laguna.

I didnt think anyone loved Alonso, except Alonso, and maybe his mommy.

I think Bostrom coming to GP will have more of a widespread effect on U.S. motorcycle culture than Hayden or Spies. The Boz bros are more in touch with the custom motorcycle culture having their own bike shows and contests. I think it will bring a slightly different crowd than everyone else and be good for the series overall. That's just my guess though based completely on speculation.....My link

American has no promising young racers anymore. Just a bunch of old washed up AMA riders with no chance into progressing their careers.

I still blame my parents til' this day haven't gotten me into motorsports, be it motorbike racing or karting. I would of became a multiple champion in MotoGP or F1, heck maybe even in both. With what..... my courage, strength, tenacity, and never-give-up attitude...... I would of gone far, no doubt.

Bostrom hasn't been given the ride to promote motogp in the US or for the good of the sport or anything like that, he is for the LCR teams sponsors who are trying to market themselves in that part of the world. Also the team is trying to put pressure on Elias by letting him know his ride isn't safe. If Bostrom manages to beat Elias then Toni's position will become extremely fragile. I'm not convinced he'll manage it, but i really don't know

The custom crowd is unaware that roadracing exists.

Well Bostrom managed 18th in todays practices but, is reported to be getting faster and Elias crashed. Not looking so good for Elias.......

If Elias is healthy he'll be well ahead of Bostrom in my opinion. That said, finishing ahead of Bostrom is finishing last, effectively. Elias is not long for MotoGP.

The bigget problem I foresee though is Elias does not have a second bike since Bostrom is riding it...

I don't know Aaron, he is in roughly his normal slot. It's not like he was doing well and suddenly things fell apart. He was told prior to Germany to step it up or he is gone - and he's still in back.
