According to this Eugene Laverty has been handed a wildcard for the Brands Hatch WSBK round.
I hope this works out well for him, I've always thought he was better than the results he's got in 250's.

I hope Laverty gets a shot at it! it would be great for him.

However, i do know that Tom Sykes will be a wildcard rider for Brands

Best of luck to him. In the little I've seen of Laverty, I've thought he's had more talent than his results show.

I think Eugene is looking for a job that will take him places and get him paid. Good luck to him.

Apparently this isn't happening afterall because his 250cc sponsors wont allow it. I'm pretty disappointed that a sponsor who hasn't got the funds for Eugene to properley showcase his talent also will stop him from guest riding somewhere he can.

I can see injury being a reason, but Laverty is not a title contender (heck, he is not even a podium contender), so why not let him run what he knows?

+1

Really disappointing news.

Quite lame considering they can't afford to pay him.

Okay so Phleg and I are not seeing eye to eye today in the aftermath of Laverty's superbike rides being taken away. If i'm not mistaken Phleg thinks Laverty should turn his back on the GP dream because the baking just isn't there and go to production racing where he has had highly credible success in the recent past and he can earn a decent living.

I disagree and feel like Eugene shouldn't give up on the GP dream just yet. I think if he can switch teams to someone who runs at least recent or preferably LE bikes (not the kit crap he has now), then he might be able to prove himself in Grand Prix racing.

What do you guys reckon? Is Phleg being realistic? Am I just dreaming?

I can see why Phleg wants him to pack it in already, but I think its way too early, what if he gets a better deal in the coming years. With Eugene its obviously all about racing and not money other wise he wouldn't have taken the ride in the first place.
He's only 22 so imo he should stay another year or two and see what happens, if he wanted to pack in GP's after another few seasons and join his brothers in the production series, I'm sure he could get a ride no problem

At 22 I feel like if he hasn't gotten a ride worth his time in GP it will never happen. Certainly not by riding around on some .... bike. Ant West anyone? He didn't get his Kawi ride by circulating in 17th on a 250, he earned it by obliterating WSS in his first go. GP is a funny business and to be honest I think it's passed Laverty by. I hate to see a guy floundering around, not getting paid no less, with a future that doesn't look very promising with this series.

My opinion would be for him go back to production based. Whether he does it for his wildcard ride and quits his GP gig mid season or toughs out the year and sees what's available. I think it's close to time for him to pack it away in GP.

Agreed. You either get into GP racing at 16-17 in 125, or you don't anymore. You need to be 20-24 to be a top rookie with a legit shot at racing longer than a few seasons.
