Laguna Practice and qualifying

Cool and Sunny for the weekend. Highs in the mid 60's. looks like more trouble for the teams that cant generate heat into the tires

Speed will show Qualifying practice at 11pm Saturday night.

Its not live, but its something we never see on TV here.

Perfect weather. What do you mean, "cool"? The track will probably be 75+. Laguna is the only venue that has a lock on sunshine.

Compared to a few years ago when it was like 95, 65 is cool. Is 65 normal for this time of year.?

As far as track temps, 75-85 is still cool. Optimum for most race tires is around 100 degrees. Once you get over that, performance starts suffering. They get flat out greasy over 120.

That one heat wave year was the exception, this is normal. 100-120, are you ....... kidding? Where the hell do they race in that heat? In that heat wave year it got over 145. 75-85 is NOT cool??? Dude, that's perfect! That's probably the hottest race so far this f..ing year.
<
Its gonna be upwards of 65, so that will put the track well within heat range. WTF are you going on about?

Track temp dude, track temp. 75-85 is better than what they have been getting, but its not optimal. Race tires perform their best on tracks that are around 95-100 degrees, or around 80 and sunny.

Why don't we have them race in a vacuum and artificially provide the "optimal" temp? Its the real world dude, and this is the best, period. Stop trying to argue or point just for the sake of not conceding.

.......i may need to re-pack a bit.. all i packed was Ts, shorts, and flip flops

we've ben floating around the 100 mark a few weeks now.....maybe i need to dig up long sleeves and jeans Jum??

Those temperatures are for Monterey (and yes, 65 and foggy is normal in the summer on the Monterey Peninsula) but Laguna is inland - Salinas temperatures will be closer to accurate - and I just looked and there isn't much difference, why am I still typing???

70 on Sunday for Salinas, not far off Monterey the other 2 days, but I would not be surprised to see it a little warmer (and cold in the morning, if the highs are that low there will be fog). I used to live in Corral de Tierra, a couple of miles east of Laguna - if the fog burns off it can heat up, whether predicted or not - just like Carmel Valley.

Its the best what? Are you saying that there is no other place in the world that will produce better conditions than Laguna. If that is what your saying, you are the one babbling around the subject for the sake of not conceding. All i said is 75 -85 degree track temps are not optimal, and they are not. There are instances around the world where the track temp falls into optimum range, just because its not happening at your home GP is no reason to get defensive. Dont get me wrong, i would rather set through a race in 65 degree temps and let the grip be what it is, but that was not the conversation. Optimum track temp for race tires is around 100 degrees, if Laguna's track temp is 80,tire performance will be reduced. For those teams that struggle to get their tire temps up into the operating range, they will struggle here as well relative to the other teams. In general, racing slicks have an optimal operating range of around 180 to 220 depending on compound. An 80 degree track will make it harder to reach those temps. So blow me

Is this a temp prediction thread or a Qualy prediction thread. Just kidding

Lol.. hey keep in mind guys.. in 2006 when it felt like 140 degrees, and my brain officially melted off about 20 iq points.. i remember it said monterey was in the high 60s, low 70s.. laguna seca is kinda in a bowl that it seems the ocean breeze sometimes completely misses..

1 stoner/pedro

3 lorenzo/spies

crossin my fingers anyway.. lets get some team battles.. 320idave.. dont forget alvaro and simo didnt get any 250cc training here

My official prediction: Nicky Hayden will win. Prepare to be shocked. It will happen.

Just FYI, that was a freakish event. I've been to Laguna MANY times, and while I've frozen my ... off a few times I don't think I've ever been there when it was that hot. Hell, the track was coming up that year!

Good point, i did forget that to be honest.

Still i think the Suzuki will do well here and Simo is a natural on the Bike, (On his own & with out pressure, it seems)

I really don't know what's going to happen, Stoner hasn't been at his best lately but he really likes this track so it's hard to tell who's going to give him a go this weekend.

I'm sure it will be amusing though.
