As KTM prepares for its entry into MotoGP in 2017, test riders Mika Kallio, Alex Hofmann and Randy de Puniet have completed another test with the RC16 prototype at Jerez.

Kallio and Hofmann took to the track on Thursday and Friday, before de Puniet replaced the latter on Saturday, making his debut on the RC16.

Kallio said: “After we worked on the ergonomics and the setup in extremely difficult conditions in the first two days, we could confirm many changes in the improved conditions on the third day.

"We tested some things with the traction and wheelie control, also the suspension elements from WP and the various options for the triple clamp.

"I am very happy with the performance and I think we were again able to give the technicians important feedback."

Hofmann, meanwhile, rued the wet track but was positive about the progress KTM has made since the last two tests.

"Compared to both my last tests in Spielberg and Valencia at the end of last year, the bike has been further developed, not only in terms of appearance; it is also technically on a very good basis," he said."

"Now it’s all about getting on with the work and hunting down the times."

Mike Leitner, consultant to KTM, said: “Unfortunately this time we had less luck with the weather, but we still made good use of the changing conditions to work at the circuit for the first time with both of our crews and partly also under time pressure."

"We gathered our first experience in the wet and were, therefore able to take important steps in matters of the electronics and rideability.

"Randy de Puniet gave us very important input for the further development of the KTM RC16 on the third and last day, which was in the dry,” he added.

De Puniet and Thomas Luthi were announced as additional KTM test riders alongside the main duo Kallio and Hofmann last month.

“As I haven’t sat on a MotoGP machine for more than a year, I immediately felt very good on the bike," de Puniet said.

"As usual we first adjusted it to suit my personal needs. Then in the short time left we tried a few things with the electronics. We are now well prepared for the next test in a few weeks.”

The Austrian factory team will continue its development work with another test scheduled for early March.

I suspect Red Bull is going to cut ties with HRC at the end of 2016. I don't see them title sponsoring the KTM, and then doing a smaller, but prominent sponsorship on the Repsol-Honda. The Austrians stick together.

I'm also hoping we get a couple of late season entries with the KTM just to see where they are at.

Any insider info or bets on the pilots for 2017? Will de Punet or what not be one?

Dani Pedrosa will be on one bike.

Perhaps de Puniet to round out the second for one year only.

Though maybe they could go see what Toni Elias is doing.

So, with all the talk it sounds like the big four or so will sign in the opening 3 or 4 races, or sooner.. Pedro commit to KTM that soon? With that little of testing?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say we'll see Dovizioso on the KTM next year.

Well, he was well outperformed by Iannone in 2015, and may people are saying he is done at Ducati unless he ups his game, especially in Petrucci continues to impress.

Dovi has also been praised for his development skills, and has experience of 3 different manufacturers. So like I say I wouldn't be surprised if they courted him instead of DP.

I was thinking Petrucci..

Maybe Bradley.

I personally don't think Ducati would let Petrucci go over Dovi. Bradley Smith is another interesting proposition too.

Well Ducati will want to keep at least one rider that will pull over for Rossi if the occasion arises. Petrucci does this best, so maybe his job is safe.

Not that RdP is a bad rider, but the only reason I would care to see him on a starting grid is Lauren Vickers.

Another test completed at Valencia, team claims to have made a "Clear Step Forward". Still plans to make race debut at Valencia.

I'm not sure why everyone is some enamored with Petrucci. He had a good wet weather finish and a few decent dry weather finishes because of attrition. He is good at not pushing hard enough to crash and slides into higher finishes than he could ever race for. That's cool for a poor team , but I don't think he is anywhere near a factory rider.

...I don't think he is anywhere near a factory rider.

But he knows how to get out the way of one when necessary.
