cheerleading Rossi fans like Roger-m (even though he is a bit of drunken and babbling alcoholic.)

Thats one of Rogers most endearing habits, and also a description that has been used to describe my good self.

I blame the Nastro Azzuro advertising of old for Rossi fans drinking.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (basspete @ Nov 29 2006, 06:23 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>A few quick points (I'm in the office!) Wayne Gardner rode a Moriwaki modded Kawasaki in the early 80s, a nasty (but nice looking) machine.

I'm not sure, but I think there was some legal wrangling over the new BM front end, I might be wrong but I thought there was a problem with Norman Hossack over patents. Could be wrong though.

Hey Jumkie, The ROC chassis was built by Frenchman Serge Rossett in the early 90's, they were mainly used by privateers. Scot Niall MacKenzie was the top privateer 500 rider in both 93 and 94 using a ROC chassis. It ws 93, that the Roberts Yams used them for a few races with Cadalora 1st, Rainey 2nd (on the Yam frame I think) and Mackenzie 3rd at Donnington that year.

British frame builders Harris also built frames at this time. Both used Yamaha engines.

And Jumkie, I'm just givin you the cheek back you deserve! to be honest Roberts Edwards and Hayden are the only guys I watch apart from Rossi, I do like the guy!

Cheers

Pete

Ah, very interesting. Did you look this up or did you just know this? If you did, do you know of some reading I could check out?

Also, what does this mean: "I'm just givin you the cheek back you deserve!"? I've never heard that term here in the States.

I wish they would bring back these graphics. I liked them on his bike.

Hey Jumkie, its all stuff i read about at the time, I was a big fan of Mackenzie (Still would be if he was racing) so the ROC was of particular interest to me.

I was also following Cadalora (and of course Doohan) at this time, so I had a particular interest in the Yamaha bikes.

Niall Mackenzies autobiography has a bit of insight into the ROC years, so you might wanna have a read of that.

Giving you the cheek you deserve just means that I'm havin a bit of fun chucking insults back and forward with you about Rossi and whathisname,? Repsol guy? not Pedrosa, the other one? You know who I mean...You have a pop at Rossi, I'll pop back at .....is it Ricky Carmichael? I know he used to race with a number 4!
<

It's all in the best possible taste Jumkie!

And yeah, the Nastro Azzuro paint job looked awesome, but the Roberts yellow with black speed blocks is just the bomb.... I saw a picture of some Yamaha Rallye Raid bikes in that paint job, and nearly took the airbrush to my XT600 Tenere!

Ah, I get it.

Oh and that guy you're having trouble remembering, well he's the new MotoGP World Champ...in case you forgot his name its Nicky Hayden.
<

(and by the way, great analogy, you know, when Jeremy McGrath was posting all those titles and records, people said he was the greatest in our life time because like Rossi, he had the talent, charisma, and notched several titles. But then came Ricky Carmichael and dwarfed all those records...so I see why you were thinking of Carmichael when trying to come up with Hayden...maybe its because deep down you see that he is the future...and you know what, I agree with you.)

bloody hell that took some reading.

i duno if anyone reads 'Racer' magazine but there's an interesting article about team KR this month.

it seem KR & KRJR (goodgrief) are going to film stars - they've got a sponsor in the shape of a movie producer who are using moto gp as a 'back-drop' for the movie - in brief it's some much needed $$ for the pot.

Back to the thread - I think we can write-off recent history due to the fact the GSV-R he rode was utter ..... and Suzuki seemed to have little interest in making it any better and the KTM fiasco but I'm pleased the see KRJR silencing the likes of Doohan who basically implied that "kenny's heart isn't in racing anymore" - that may have been true when he was coming home 15/16th race after race, but for now - it clearly is.

I can't see KR being world champ again - yeah he's good, yeah he's got a good motor in the bike, yeah michelin are helping him out and honda will help anyone who they think will get their bikes over the line in a hurry but, in my opinion he's going to be out classed next year by the likes or Rossi, Hayden, Capirossi, Pedrosa and the list goes on - I stand to be corrected at the end of next year but in my opinion Kenny won't finish top 5.

I know Team KR are classed as privateer and i know that they're running on a shoe-string but, don't forget that's a HONDA factory motor and top spec michelins stuck in a chasis designed by some of the best F1 engineers all underneath a former world champ - so frankly i think they are where they should be - running up at the front when they can - taking it to Rossi and Hayden and generally making a nuisance of theselves and good on em i say !

out of interest - do you Americans see Team KR as an 'American' Team ?

in the UK i would say we (the press) tried to 'claim' them (if you like) because of the Banbury connection but mags like 'Racer X' claim them for the USA - what do you think ?

Wow, Locks, I'm impressed. You sounded like you know what your talking about (sort of).

I agree with “most” of what you said. (I don't say " all" because that's roger's job to kiss your ...).

Anyway, I consider him a US team. I never even imagined that UK might have some claim. (Perhaps its that old imperial thing thinking you guys own everything again).

now thats interesting. you say "i consider HIM a us team".
by him do you mean jnr or snr or the team which is based in england like the engineers who build the bike.
i consider team kr to be a joint venture. american dollar and good old english engineering.

I'm talking about the two Americans "King" Kenny Roberts SR. and Kenny Roberts JR.

(I think that's what was being asked. )

I guess if we started to check around in regards to nationalities at the engineers and principals of other teams we could say hey, that's a German/Japanese/Italian/etc. "joint venture", don't you think?

what i ment there's no him in team,to be a team you need more than one person i now see you ment them.
if you want to be pedantic you could say all the teams are joint ventures because of rider, principals, and the parts used to build the bike let alone engineers mechanics ect,but i was more refering to where the "team" is based and calls it's home. namely Banbury ENGLAND.
infact it's so close to home that my wife works for a company that supplied parts to the team for the bike.

i wasn't questioning the nationality of KR or KRJR mate - i meant the team - as a whole.

I never gave it a 2nd thought until i read the article in Racer X which basically dismissed the British connection off-hand.

Naturally you should never dismiss the UK or we'll just come over and take your country off you - just like you did to those poor Injuns. .......s the lora ye.
<

Well there aren't any F1 engineers designing the bike. John Barnard hasn't been involved for a while now has he?

I would say Anglo American Team (or American Anglo if you prefer) but seeing as the Americans (present company excepted of course
<
) as a majority take little interest in GP then I suppose our press would say British Team and I would guess apart from Chuck, Sr and Jr the majority of the TEAM is English, or British. The bike is British built so British. Well whatever. But you have to admit it's nice of Kenny to spend his American dollars in lil old England, even he understands that British engineering is FANTASTIC
<
and where it's at.
