Eurosport was the reason I got sky in - so suffice to say very happy they are showing coverage again this year!

Ben.

You really need to fix that questionary. For starters it would be nice to list those countries that actually have official Eurosport broadcast, like Norway. If not it should atleast accept the country I put in the "If none of the above: " instead of insisting that I choose one of the other countries.

Same here. Every form for the USA do not work. Even Canada did not work for me either.

Does anybody know how I can get Eurosport in the U.S.?

I'm a DirectTV customer. They actually have an international package, but its for non-English speaking programing. Man, it would be the .... to get UK programing here in the US. Then I wouldn't have to go digging for BSB .... underground.

i'd say only if a usa based tv company provide it..the satelitte is too far away/orbit etc
the funny thing is you can get it for free in europe its the german version but i think you still can select english audio it broadcasts on the old astra1

Satellite: Astra 1 at 19.2° East
Transponder: 12.2265 GHz H 27500 3/4
Provider name: SES ASTRA
Service name: EUROSPORT
Scrambled: FTA (Free To Air)

you can get it free in the uk but you have to point your dish at 19.2° East

it was available on sky before it went digital.but then they changed to astra 2 on 28.2East

sky and freesat here in the uk are pointed at 28.2East. these days

so you cant get it in the uk on sky/freesat

ive got a old set up that can see 19.2° East its all german programmes these day

Very sorry to you guys whose countries were not listed. It is great to have you on board and I can only apologise if I have caused you offence. You couldn't include every country and listed our top countries in terms of audience and we have very few viewers in the US.

As I said it is great to hear from you and do please keep signing up!

Matt

So does this mean you do have viewers in the US? If so, is there a pay service I can go with or do I have to point my dish and hope for the best as Pigeon suggests?

Jumie, unless the satellite is broadcasting neutrinos, you're going to have a hard time picking up any signal at all. Pigeon's bird is hovering over S. Central Africa, so your antenna will be pointed into the ground.

Matt, if you're listening...
Have you guys considered on-line distribution via a service like Hulu or TV.com?
Another option would be pay-per-download. I'd pony up a buck or so to watch a live, high quality, add-free video.

i know for sure Eurosport would be welcome in the uk on freeview or freesat even if its the international version thats on astra 1. and has different progs to brit eurosport but then there will be rights/contractual issues.to get round..

its crazy how the motogp coverage chit happened.

i had sky TV since about 1995 for Eurosport, and with the announcements Eurosport lost MotoGp coverage etc i cancelled sky.then MotoGp comes back to Eurosport.wtf.

i watched just about every hour of Bike racing Broadcast on Eurosport, but with sky cancelled i will not be watching Eurosport at all in 2009 or in the for-seeable future.im not signing up to no new 12month contract with a tv provider to get Eurosport back

because of Dorna<roflmao Eurosport has lost 1 very loyal household

and i will miss Eurosports vast coverage of the Tour De France but its not worth getting a new 12month contract to get it back in the present financial climate..

Good luck Eurosport.

p.s. i hope with the MotoGp off/on chit your lawyers give Dorna<roflmao HELL

Another option would be pay-per-download. I'd pony up a buck or so to watch a live, high quality, add-free video. That's fairly unlikely to happen, legally. Their licenses for their content, particularly for something like MotoGP where they are licensing from a company that provides for-pay online streaming and licenses to different licensees in different markets, almost certainly forbid them from providing such feeds.

The legal hurdles to offering Eurosport content to locations outside of Eurosport's coverage area (legally) are pretty substantial.

Not really. The BBC and their new iPlayer system cannot broadcast to the US because of the costs involved. And if the BBC cannot afford this, then a network like Eurosport is ...... from even trying.

You say "not really" and then agree with me. I'm confused.

The "added costs" you speak of are primarily securing licenses to provide the content in additional areas.

You were referring to the legal issues. I was saying it is more of a cost issue.

From the BBC site on why they cannot broadcast the BBC iPlayer outside the UK.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Offering downloads and Flash streaming over overseas networks would be expensive due to the large files sizes.

I think that is the same with Eurosport, and why the cost to watch MotoGP is over 100 USD.

LinkFor content that the BBC owns, it's a cost issue. They'd have to pay to serve up the content (as they do to serve it to local customers), but wouldn't be generating much of income from it. They'd also be devaluing any content that eventually makes it over here. In the case of licensed content, like MotoGP, they are licensed to broadcast it to the UK only. They would have to negeotiate an additional contract to stream it elsewhere, and Dorna would risk losing money by making Speed's contract less valuable. Yes, money is at the root of everything, but even if it wasn't the BBC or Eurosport couldn't just turn around and start streaming MotoGP to the US.

If streaming was such a financial burden to Dorna, they wouldn't be so aggressive in policing copyright infringement on sites like youtube. It's about controlling distribution of their product for what they perceive to be maximum profit, not about the nominal costs to stream content.

Matt

Well, in case you didn't get the first time: The main problem is not that you didn't list all countries, the problem is that the form will ONLY accept those listed. Trying to type in another country and the form fail validation asking us to pick one of the few pre-listed countries.
We're not easily offended, but quickly get inpatient when others don't understand the problem.
