Is the GP15 the real deal ?

my wife and I just returned last Sunday from a two week vacation in California (started in LA, drove up the coast to SF, then flew back home).

Had a great time, we both picked San Luis Obispo as the ideal place to live (based on a combination of economics and weather that suited us).

The only downers were the wide spreads in gas prices (we saw from $ 2.79 to $ 5.03 per gallon), and the homeless in downtown SF near where we stayed (Opal on Van Ness).

You folks have a good thing going on in California.

Glad you had a good time. Honestly, I'm a new California resident. Only been here 7 months. I live about 30 min north of San Fran, in Sonoma County. I like SF but it certainly has some ugly area's. Overall, California is a pretty cool place. Really nice country. I'm no fan of LA and the SoCal deal. Just never liked it TBH. Everything here is expensive unfortunately. Goes with the territory and I knew that before I elected to move here.
 
Actually there is, in the person of the President of the Supervisory Board of the Group. Ferdinand Piech has been a long time Ducati enthusiast (he has a lifelong passion for motorbikes and his first motorcycle was a Ducati) and he was, they say, the man behind the decision to acquire Ducati. Of course there are also many other good reasons, but this is the "special appreciation" part...

Thanks man, that picture is about a year old, taken before I moved from Florida to California. I didn't post it to brag, just thought it was interesting that we're discussing Audi's wisdom buying Ducati and I happen to have on of each in the garage. Take care.

Too late. California plates have been on since I got here. California taxes too. It sux but the weather is the reward!

Yes. Ducati is back! And marc wont win this season. Rossi is on fire. Ducati is back. Lorenzo looked great in Qatar. So it's gonna be a rossi-andrea x2-marc-lorenzo battle.

This, and owning Ducati makes a lot of financial sense. They make good money, though they have a lot of debt. It's a growing brand, with a huge amount of potential in Asia, especially.

Mostly, though, Piech just wanted it. And when you are that rich, you can afford to do that.
 
Well, I think "everybody" is getting happy with such traditional brand fighting for the rostrum.

Therefore, myself is not an ....... while fighting those who does not support the underdogs, instead does an "unservice" for the sport being so partial and indiferent about some brands.

If you really like this sport, keep supporting Ducati, Suzuki and Aprillia, and we will have an awesome show year after year.
 
In my mind now the GP15 is definitely for real, the Suzuki looks promising already, the Aprilia has a ways to go.

Unless something drastic happens to either rider or bike it looks like another championship for MM in my opinion.

Take away 2 more litres of fuel and the soft tyres for qualifying and you wont have a Ducati on the podium at either of the last 2 races....

Of course Ducati didn't put any effort in fuel efficiency, obviously, cause they don't need it.

You are right they didnt or dont need to do it, and so why i keep saying the concessions are giving Ducati advantages and putting their bike and riders in better positions than they would otherwise be in during the race....

I guess my questions become ...Could Dovi put the GP15 on the front row of the grid and on the podium without the soft tyre in qualifying and an extra 2 litres of fuel in the race?
I say he could not....

Mr. De la Palisse would say that the concessions serve exactly that purpose... :)

And in 2016 most of what now are "concessions" will become the new foundation of better rules, same for all. And we'll see if with 2 more liters Honda and Yamahas will really output more power than the Ducati desmo (they didn't until 2013, when Ducati was racing with the same fuel and the same engine limitations as them...).

I say he could not....

I think some of you overestimate the 2 liters more and also the soft tire.

It's not true that always the soft tire is an advantage, see for example Ianonne this last race. Dovi himself said the tire gives him from 0 to 3 tenths at the maxium. Indeed, it helps a lot in a so close qualifying session, but in the race makes no difference. For the top guys, start the race from the 1st position or from the 5th position, whatever, does not make much of a difference. When the lights are down, many riders came from the bottom exploding up to the front in a tenth of a second. Starting grid in Motogp is not so deterministic as in F1. Well, it helps a bit, but not much.

About the 2 liters more, it's already very hard to put so much horses in the ground, so, 2 liters of fuel is not always a plus in 260+ HP bikes. You have to control that, and even more power in those conditions could mean much less tire in the end of the race.

MotoGP in this level is all about compromise. I think that, starting from a point as high as the current, not always something means an advantage.

Personally, I'd prefer Ducati had the hard tire instead of these 2 liters and soft tire. And remember that the only thing that made Ducati opt for the open rulebook is the possibility to change the engine. Everybody knew they need to change their engine to be competitive, and suddenly the rules changed preventing this. Is this fair? Really? Maybe it would be better not to freeze engine development, but someone somehow wanted this until they decide what to do with mr. Nakamoto (they want to go back to F1).

Honda is not always fair in this game. I don't have any pity of them.
