the weight of an imminent world title on his young shoulders yet ?

he knows it's coming - maybe not this weekend but it's certainly coming - and i wonder if this is the reason for his unusually poor grid position ?

he's been a cool as ice up to now but I wonder if it's suddenly dawned on him just how close he is ?

i think the pressure has most certainly got to him. his poor grid position is one thing but coupled with him tantrum towards checa , thats youth for ya.

mamola implied he had a bit of a hissy fit after final qualifying but all I saw was one pissed off guy who had no intention of talking to the press.

guess we'll see how he copes in a few hours time.

He's under pressure but not because he can't go fast.

Ducati has him tied up doing something he doesn't want to do. It's all over his face.

Same exact look of desperation in Hayden's eyes last year. The mathematicians know Casey only needs 24 points in they next 4 rounds to guarantee the title, and they don't care whether they win it at Motegi or PI or Malaysia or Valencia. Casey on the other hand wanted to win at Estoril.

Testing is limited during the off season, the title lead gives Ducati a testing advantage. Welcome to Nicky's world young man. Be thankful your teammate is mathematically eliminated, and make sure Suppo tells Capi to stay out of your way!

Good luck youngin.

OMG! I can't believe that was something that I hadn't even considered when trying to figure out what the hell was going on here this weekend...

I mean, kudos to Dani, Vale, Nicky & the rest of the guys up the front for doing a great job but I would've expected Casey to be somewhere there in the mix no matter what!

History will soon show whether he's been used as a "mule" during this race or not I suppose?

I was reading in the paper today that every time casey went back into the pits the changes made, made the bike worst. The last time he went back out on the track he was finding it hard to get the bike to down gear.

As for his grid finish well we have all seen him start futher back and lead by the first turn before !!

It would be good to see him win it in Australia !!

i'd like to see him take it at PI but I doubt Casey will want to wait that long

looks like normal service resolved - casey looks relaxed & happy.

good grief his bird is fit

If he was feeling the pressure he certainly didn't show it. The way he has matured this year really amazes me. Not once has he binned it, even with the pressures he's had placed on his shoulders (not least from himself).
Today really did show how much he has matured this year. It'll be interesting to see how the pressure of being world champion next year affects him. Time will tell I suppose.

His improved maturity (despite what others may say) has been integral to his success this year and IMO without a doubt his young lady has played a major part. We have all seen examples of a talented athletes who somehow seem to wander aimlessly until they meet Mr or Mrs right, when all of a sudden they just appear to get it all together. I expect in Casey's case the meeting of Mrs R happened at a far earlier age than many atheltes so good luck to him going forward.

Another point for Stoner is that he was not that readily mentioned in mainstream media in Australia and therefore has gotten to MGP with little expectation heaped up on him. However now the mainstream press will want his time and will build him up to such ridiculous levels, and it is how he handles this type of adulation that will determine his ongoing success or otherwise.

IMO, he has an old head on young shoulders (albeit a baby faced head) and a very good 'Team Casey' surrounding him so I would expect that he should do well next year.

You know, many.....many years ago, I went into the last round of a British Cyclo Trials Championship with the title lead! I absolutely fell to pieces, blew it in spectacular fashion!!!!!!

Snatched defeat from the jaws of victory!!!!

You can see that the pressure has been building in his mind over the last month or so, IMO. He seems to have gone from a lad who was winning for fun, into a lad who had started to think about why and how! Also, havind to defend himself and his performances against claims of, 'other forces' shall we say, must have been a bit of a kick in the bollocks for him during a period which should have reaped nothing other than adulation.

Despite this, he's coped, and now has the title. You could see the weight fall off his shoulders on the slow down lap.
