Indianapolis - tyres?

I'm watching the re-run of the NASCAR at Indianapolis and boy, were they having tyre problems. They were struggling to run 10 laps without major, major tyre degradation. Tyres were exploding! It's a bit like the F1 fiasco from a few years ago, but not as entertaining!
<

Anyway I know the Motogp races only use part of the track but could there be a problem with the tyres and have Dorna or whoever already things in place to take care of this? A blown tyre on a bike is a wee bit different from a stock car!

I'm sure Dorna, Bridgestone and Michelin will be aware of that.

I'd noticed a headline on that being a predicted issue and read the article as well. Presumably the GP teams got adequate information from their tire test, so that should help unless things change dramatically. Also, only four turns of the GP layout are on the track used by nascar. Not sure if there are any surface differences. Also, it could just be Goodyear being idiotic and supplying .... tires.

Hopefully not another Laguna situation.

Was it Ben Spies who said after the test that the track had more than two different surfaces.
I could be misstaken but anyway different compound of asphalt and new track must be really difficult
for choosing the right tires. The race for the best set up is probarbly going to be the usual teams at the top.Who has a bike best suited to the tires that are on it?
Maybe Rossi is going to have a harder time there as he/Yamaha switched tires not long ago.

They have already tested there with tyres so Michelin and Bridgestone know what its about.

You know Michelin are gonna screw it up anyway

They have tested yes, with testriders. But i still think it's gonna be more of a gamble on
the thursday before the race with different surfaces on the track.
On the other hand the factories and M and B have time during the summerbrake to ajust.
I also fear a big gap between the top guys and those in teams with not so good comunication with their tire supplier, and that the race will be determined on thursday.
We will see.

There's the answer. Goodyears are ...., even by NASCAR standards.

I am starting to think Indy is going to be a joke. .... the history, it was not ever meant for bikes even if they had them there in 19whateverthefuck. I guess I will just treat it like a AMA race at fontana or daytona.....

It should be the other way around. For once Rossi are level with ducati and honda in regards to track knowledge on their respective tires.

The problem for F1 tyres was the banked corner I don't know if they do the banked part in the MotoGP layout (seems a bit dangerous) but even if they do I guess Michelin will have learnt the lesson of 2005 in F1.

The bikes will not be on any banking, only using straight sections of the oval.

Turns 1 and especially 5 look to use at least a portion of the banked curves of the oval. They don't use a full corner like F1 did though. Lap by nicky.

If Rossi/Burgess/Yamaha has fully ajusted to Bridgestones then they finally have an advantage yes.
Maybe they have and in that case Yamaha/Burgess and the team are doing quite a good job.

I wouldn't call it an advantage but less of a catching up. But anyway...
