Let's Say this is a difficult year for Rossi, and somebody is gonna just pip him for the Title!

1. Who do u fink it would be
2. And Why ?

my 1/2
1. Capriossi
2. cuz he is a top bloke, is the height of nothing, yet ride that Ducati beast like no one else could, and when he beat Rossi last year he did it in style. If he starts off the way he finnished and Ducati have done their homework he could be a dark hourse

No one will beat Rossi for the crown this year. It is by far the deepest field of competition he's faced in the premier class but the problem is that Melandri, Hayden, Gibernau, Pedrosa, Capirossi and Edwards will have hot and cold rounds while Rossi is consistantly quick. Rossi won't have as many race wins as years past because of the amount of competition but at the same token those riders will be knocking eachother out of the points race by taking points off one another.

To humor myself, if anyone could beat Rossi this year it would be Marco Melandri with the Repsol boys right behind him.

marco

i'd have to go with marco as well. with the exception of his mid season slump, he was the most consistent last season. i expect he'll be more so this season.
<

Dani's not ready, Teo, take those damn glasses off already!
<

This year it's Melandri, next year it'll be Pedrosa. He need a learning year.
But I gotta admit, I think 'lil Dani is by far Rossi's hottest challenger yet. Sure Biaggi won lots of small bore races, too. But he was in 250s for ten years or somthing. Rossi can't keep winning forever, and I think that in a few yaers time a mature (but still tiny) Pedrosa might just end Rossi's reign.
Ooost is right, the fact that he's got too many challengers this year, all sqabbling for points means he's secure for '06. One main rival is best for a stab at the title. Honda should be throwing their weight behind Melandri, and maybe Hayden, and concentrate on building up Pedrosa and Elias's skill this year so lil Dani can take it to Rossi if he's still there in '07.

i know its might not seem quite possible, especially when the competition is THE Valentino Rossi.... but i hope some one else takes the title this year .... just to shake things up.

if anyone.... i'd say it would be Melandri, Gibernau or Hayden.
everyone else is either ...
a) too new ... rookies like Pedrosa, Vermuelen, De Puniet etc... give them a couple of years and they will make sufficent competition... theyve just gotta adapt to the bike and find their feet

<
not consistent enough ... but then again if sete put in another one of THOSE years i cant imagine he would be of too much competition

c) not on the right bike .... VERMUELEN COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER ... i admit, i almost cried when i found out that he will be riding a Suzuki. Keep an eye on Elias ... i reckon he's a youngin to watch this year.

I think Elias and Melandri have a lot in common. (Like Melandri) Elias is no longer held down by a Tech 3 M1. Maybe his maiden year on an RCV won't as dazzling as Melandri's, but definately one to watch.

That's a damn good point, I'd forgot that toni put in afew good rides on the yam. Honda are in trouble with the chassis on the 2006 RCV so it'll be interesting to see how even Marco will get on, it looks like the 2005 bike is still the better option.

So yeah, Rossi will win again but he's gonna have to fight real hard for it, much harder than before.

And that is what I can't wait to see.

I have to agree with you. My choice would be Capirossi but we should be realistic and admit that Rossi can't fail for entire season -even if the bike will be bad he is an outstanding rider.
Even knownig Rossi i hope for a good and disputed season

Don't worry, there's too many challengers for him to run away with it like he did last year.

very good point there

It's gotta be Melandri. I've even put my hard earned cash on him - like I do every year
<

He had a fantastic season last year. Consistent and determined. His only downfall is that he lacks confidence in himself. I thought that Marco would have spent last year learning his bike but he jumped in feet first and ended up Moto GP runner up.

With a year under his belt he is going to be phenomenal!!

lil did u put ur doe on him to win the title?

if Honda are gonna get the title back, they simply need to go for team orders, but because all the best bits go on the factory repsol bikes, this cant be done, because of the different teams, but what i will say is until you have seen Pedrosa mixing it with Rossi in the first couple of races, then make your decision because then you will have an idea how the season will unfold, and yes Melandri has to be the other rider hot on Rossi's tail, but without the full support from HRC and their magic, parts he could be hamperd also, but should be alot tastier this season, cant wait.
<

HRC do a bit of work with Gresini though.
But if Melandri was on the factory team, he'd have the huge task of developing the bike. Big job right now. The setup they've got is good. Let wunderkid Pedrosa learn the ropes on the best bike possible, support Melandri (Their best rider- sorry Hayden fans, but it's true) with SOME HRC parts on the Gresini Honda, and let Nicky (Their most experienced rider) Handle development. They've got him for this season on the contract anyway, might as well use him.
Nicky might not be the best bike developer, but he's the best Honda's gonna get right now. Who knows, if he turns out to be a competent developer, Maybe Honda will keep him next year. If not, move Melandri to HRC with Pedrosa, so they can both chase (and maybe beat) Rossi, if he's still in motoGP, and they can share the development role. And put Hayden on a satellite bike (He ain't the best, but he's still to good to lose to Yamaha. They couldn't get a better rider to replace him anyway)

isnt this kinda what happened last year?

everyone got all hyped up thinking that there was gonna be a good challenge for the title with Rossi VS Gibernau .... and then rossi ran away with it all and gibernau was left in the gutter

i hope this year is more competitive than 2005's ....

thats right katt baby! we dream it up at the start of every season
<
... don't spoil it!

But gibbers had a horrible season, and Biaggi's criticicms were hardly constructive.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not making everything look sweet and rosy. Honda are presently in deep ..... That's what they NEED to do to keep up. They really lack experience. I know Hayden's been in GP for a few years now, but he's always played second fiddle to Rossi, Barros, Biaggi. He hasn't got frontrunning experience. He only really started mixing with the big guns after Laguna Seca last season.
And Melandri's only been in what? 3 years? Only one of which has been on competitive machinery. It's easy to forget that with Marco, because he did so well last year. But he's still a Honda rookie. Never been on a factory motoGP team.
Elias is only in his 2nd year, Pedrosa and Stoner are both pure rookies and Tamada's still relitively new. They've got skill. Plenty of Talent, but experience is important too. Especially for bike development, which is what they really need now.

melandri, tamada & hayden have all been in the big class the same amount of time. since 2003. their all equally experienced. melandri spent his 1st 2 years on the lackluster m1. i thought elias came up in 04? which would make this season 3. not sure on that 1 tho.
