Andrea Iannone has confirmed he will leave the factory Suzuki MotoGP team at the end of this season.

The Italian made the announcement, expected given the growing rumours that Joan Mir is to join the team, on the eve of his home Grand Prix at Mugello.

"I will not remain for sure in Suzuki," Iannone said. "I switch to another bike, factory. But at the moment I do not want to talk about my future because it's a little bit early.

"Two years ago in this race I announced my partnership with Suzuki, but this year it's a little bit different.

"Suzuki talk with me about my future only after the Barcelona test... in any case, now it's sure I will not remain with Suzuki."

Without a podium during a disappointing debut Suzuki season, Iannone has taken two rostrums so far this year and is seventh in the world championship.

"I have a good relationship with everybody in Suzuki. I think last year was a difficult year and so the relationship last year was a little bit difficult. In any case Suzuki tried their best last year and me also, and we will continue like this to the end of the season."

Iannone, a MotoGP race winner with Ducati prior to joining Suzuki alongside Alex Rins, has been linked with a move to Aprilia and ruled out joining a satellite team.

"I don’t want a satellite team. I talk with factory [teams]… Not only Aprilia, for sure."

Rins has already been re-signed on a new two-year contract.

If Suzuki could get Lorenzo instead of Mir they'd be fools not to try, as Jorge would likely accept chump change.

I don't get why Mir is such a hot item this early, but whatever.

Ianndone had a nice run, career over. This year will be his last opportunity to podium.

Before he moved to Ducati, he was seen as one of the strongest, if not the strongest, rider on the grid.

The fact that his style didn't work with Ducati doesn't mean he's not devastatingly fast when he's comfortable. He's got 5 championships...

I agree. Suzuki are mad not to take Jorge.

Especially because they'd have nothing to lose. Lets be honest, Rins and if they get Mir won't do ...., and for sure not more than Lorenzo would accomplish. And considering Suzuki is a 'selling club', in the unlikely event Mir and Rins become race winners they'd be looking to leave. Suzuki is a stepping-stone, so Lorenzo would be the perfect fit. You get a guy desperate to resurrect his career with something to prove, and a proven winner, all for a discount. Who the hell is negotiating their contracts?

I thought Suzuki were a little bit too quick to get Rins to sign, it didn't seem like the factories were falling over each other to get his signature. I understand the hype around Mir, he was incredible last season but he still hasn't won a moto2 race yet. Suzuki have IMO gamble that both their riders are going to come good rather than take a known quantity like Lorenzo and that just hasn't made a heap of sense to me.

Flawless logic.

Lorenzo would remember that Suzuki bailed him out when he was desperate, and he'd be keen to destroy Yamaha and Ducati. They would build a bike around him.

Iannone talking to factories other than Aprilia?
He has been getting pretty chummy with Marky Marc. So maybe... HRC?

Or surprise return to a Ducati Torpedocedici?

when Iannone is on his game he is fast, but when he is off his game he is ...., just to hit or miss. in that respect JLo is probably a better rider, and im sure Ducati could keep him for less money.

Iannone is going to Aprilia.

Suzuki didn't hire Lorenzo because he was asking a lot more money than they could have spent on a rider's salary.

I'm kinda sad for Iannone but at the same time glad they got Mir. It's nice to have a factory team with 2 young guns.

Regardless of no win he will bury his team mate this year, he's already making him look a bit lost.

I also heard that two years of dealing with a somewhat 'difficult' personality made then doubly cautious of entertaining Jorge...

I’ve said it before, Ianonne’s off track persona was a major issue with corporate. His “ hard .... all the time” motto may have been cute to some, but the extremely conservative culture he worked for was not amused with him or his gangsta wanna be posse. His riding was a headache, his off track was an embarrassment .

Ok, yeah, I read about Iannone's entourage issues, but is this your speculation on Jorge or did you read it somewhere? I agree with the sentiment, as I think that's why Jlo wore out his welcome, but I'd be surprised if Suzuki said or intimated as much directly or indirectly.

If you live in a glass house don't throw rocks.

I don’t think it matters who you plug in to Suzuki.
The riders not the problem, it’s Suzuki’s commitment.
I would be surprised to see Lorenzo devalue himself even further.
Maybe we see a retired Lorenzo next year

That won't happen. He's going to Yamaha with a newly established team that will most likely be financed by Petronas and he will most likely have Syahrin as a team mate.

He has said he will ride for two more years (saw a comment dated today) which is a strange thing to say and to me indicates that he has a 2 year deal somewhere.

Suspect Yamaha personally as like Rossi before him, return to a known quantity as a known quantity

Brivio is a professional and nowadays doesn't want to work with divas. Suzuki asked him to pick young guns and try to keep them and have them growing in their team, such as they did (or tried to do) with Vinales.

The whole Lorenzo thing came out as an unpredictable thought due to many reasons: Suzuki being competitive this year, him being still struggling on the Duc, and Suzuki being the only available factory ride in case he was leaving Ducati (which we now know being the case).

Let's face it, a year ago the sentence "Lorenzo might go to Suzuki" would have been acceptable only at the pub after several drinks.

Suzuki tried to consider the thing as having a rider of Lorenzo's caliber is surely a great thing, but the deal was dead before it even actually begun due to (mainly) financial reasons.
