Had the top 4 riders, hypothetically, been at 100 % fitness all year long, who would take the title?

But to entertain your hypothetical question, I "believe" it would have went like this: Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner, Pedrosa. Which oddly is how it is right now.

almost same:

Rossi, lorenzo, pedrosa, stoner.

Actually I will say "fair cop" in this instance as you did restrict your argument to the relative pace of the riders this year, and lorenzo has self-evidently been very fast in many of the races.

I believe he would be leading right now.
Easily he would be leading. But no one wants to give that kid an ounce of credit.

thats pure speculation. How can you give credit for a speculative result ?

QUOTE (michaelm @ Aug 1 2009, 09:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
No excuses are valid in this area. Ensuring fitness/lack of injury is very much part of the game, and rossi's phenomenal durability and ability to avoid injury are very much major contributors to his record.

Rossi has started every single race in his 160 MotoGP/500 appearances since 2000 (0/160). Pedrosa did not start in Laguna Seca 2008 (1/63), Lorenzo did not start in Catalunya 2008 (1/28), and Stoner did not start in Sachsenring 2006 (1/63). Yes, this also makes Rossi's record of durability very strong.

I think that… had Rossi not fail to win every single race so far on 2009 he would have 250 points in ten races… how's that for speculation?

so with rocks logic we should be hailing rossi for scoring 250 phantom points for these ten phantom races

credit where credit is due not credit for what might have been

I for one think that Pedrosa would be a very strong contender if 100% healthy for all season.

I highly doubt that. The racing is too close this year for Dani to just take off and check out, he will actually have to earn it the hard way by battling it out with Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner, and Dovizioso..... and to me, Dani is the weaker of the 5. Yes he is quick..... but unless he's .2 - .5 second per lap faster then the rest, he won't stand a chance. He just doesn't have the "IT" factor.

That's what this thread is about... duh!

But yes, it's really all if if if. I'm almost 100% sure that Pedrosa will never win a championship with the history having gone the way it's gone.

To be honest i never really though he had a motogp championship in him. i was very surprised he did as well as he did. Do you remember his rookie season ?

That is no speculation. He did it once before and won.

If that's a valid argument then I'd say Hayden stand just as good a chance. He did it once before.

I believe Hayden could do it again. Not this year of course but that kid is np slouch buddy.

Stoners "Mystery" illness only comes on when he's not winning races. Stop making excusses for him, he had his year (and that was only due to Rossi's bike problems) and now he is not winning, he cant take it, and on comes the "mystery illness". Rossi's only real threat this year is Lorenzo.
<

If the all the riders health was at 100%, and the weather conditions at all the races so far had been the same........
#1 Rossi will always be #1 because he runs at 110% all the time
#2 Lorenzo he's got staying power, he will win more then 1 title in years to come
#3 Pedro because he's a tough little cookie
#4 Stoner the only thing going for him is a fast bike.

if all rider100%
1st.. Rossi ----> the bike fast and sixth time world champion
2nd Lorenzo----> good mental maybe he will be a tough rival for rossi for next
3rd stoner---> remmember 2008 when stoner healthy and faster,
4rd perobot--> honda already faster but to late
