Very bad news for Sete Gibernau, I hope he has a nice easy life now.

I didn't really watch the guy thisy ear, but I certainly did lat year and the year before and he was really pushing Rossi in most races. A year or two ago if Gibernau wasn't there then Rossi would of won every race without anybody else even getting a look in...but Gibernau was there to keep the passion, love and entertain in the sport.

I guess Catalunya never got out of his head, but he's still very brave to of even got back on a road bike let alone a Moto GP bike!! Good luck to him in the future anyway.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Rising Sun @ Nov 9 2006, 01:47 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I wonder about this retirement. Not so long ago he had a brief chance to test the Duacti 800 (at the time he commented it would much more like riding a 500, which he said he preferred). Most, if not all, teams/manufacturers aren't in the habit of letting potential opposition riders test their new machinery...

And he was in negotiations with Ducati at one time for next year, with money said to be the sticking point. Next thing we know Stoner has his ride for next year, and there were no other good rides avaiable. Finishing his career on a Kawasaki or an Ilmor obviously didn't look too appealing (understandable). He made a point of saying that he's never ridden just for the money (given his family and a long and successful career he shouldn't need any anyway!), but I wonder if he's regretting playing hardball with Ducati now?Good points...makes you think, especially testing the 800.

Poor old Sete, I was hoping he might get a podium this year to prove he still had it in him, but other things ruined that.

How can he dare demand more money though? He was always damaged goods and sixth best after 05.

I wish he stayed, but if he feels his time has gone, I respect the decision and wish him the best!

I believe that injuries are big part in his decision. Esspecially multiple hurts on the same part of the body. His collarbone just can't be as strong as it was. He must feel weather changes and proppably some more problems.

I don't feel sorry for him, because it's not nicest feeling for someone who you respect!! It's brave verdict!

I always liked his name sounds... Sete! Nice name.

Gibernau earns my respect as he said he wouldn't run for the sake of money!

I start to feel sad about his leaving.

Have to chip in to agree that it's sad to see Sete go. One of the very few guys who could beat Rossi head to head on a good day. Even sadder that his last season was blighted by injury.

Enjoy youre retirement Sete!

a lot of the time he won races because of mistakes rossi madee though.
after the quatar incident 04 when rossi + max got sent to the back of the grid for "tampering with their track positions" after telephonica moviestar complained rossi said gibernau would never win another race...and he never has lol
still i think he could have been good ths year if he hadnt had such an injury filled season ... maybe honda could swap him for hayden!

I think the main reason he never got back onto winning terms was because of when Rossi overtook Gibbers a little on the hard-side to put it bluntly and he also said "i'll make sure he never wins a race again"...and he hasn't. It's all mind games + a little bit of injury.
