DOES ANYONE out there still doubt that Sete Gibernau will make a full-time return to MotoGP soon? The Spaniard has been fanning the flames of his comeback to the premier class nicely over the last few weeks with several rides on the GP8 and GP9 Ducati Desmosedici, and his most recent comments to the Spanish press would only have served the cause further.

Speaking yesterday, Gibernau - the only man to run Valentino Rossi ragged on the maniacal 990cc machines - said: “The riding I am doing at the moment and everything is going well. The pieces are fitting in with me, I wanted to ride in the first place to see if I could still be competitive or whether I was under some sort of illusion about my pace.

“But now I know that I am competitive. I have been able to verify that, aside from going fast and being competitive, it is really difficult to race these motorcycles.

“I do not know if this all means I will return to the races though. I hope that the balance between the pressures of racing and being happy in my life could fall on the side of being happy in what I do. I have been always a fighter in search of my happiness.

“The day that I thought that my happiness was outside the racing world I left. If now I see that my happiness appears if I were to return to the races, I will try to be associated with whoever in order to do it. But the same will happen if I think that my happiness is not going to happen in racing, if I think that then I will not come back to racing.

“But I will say right now that there is nothing comparable to the sensations that you get when you ride a MotoGP motorcycle.

“As far as Valentino goes, I do have much respect for him and what he has done. Many consider him to be the best rider ever and for me I am proud to have fought with him and to have won from our battles sometimes. “

We bet that Sete will find happiness out on track pretty soon - then watch him take to Rossi and Stoner. Oh boy...

I was going to post a well thought out, humerous reply, but then I realised that Sete back on a GP bike isnt very exciting and lost interest.

Pete

I hope if Sete gets on the bike again he goes well and wins. AS LONG AS HE IS ON A DUCATI!

I'd love to see ol' Gibbers back in town, he was a fav of mine once and one of a handful of people who have been able to take it to Rossi (till his head got messed in).

I still say that Barca Rossi vs Gibbers is one of the best races I've seen, I have a "Burky" masterpiece on my shop wall of "that corner".

I hope he comes back - on a Telefonica Honda

but having said that i think things have moved on since gibbers retired and i think he is going to find that out. i think he will be at the back of the pack not any better than marcos effort on the ducati but time will tell.

Roger that! Sete is a great rider, but he'll need time to acclimate to the new atmosphere that he's missed. I think judging by his practice times though, he'd be doing better than Marco.

Rossi will never wind up in wsbk.

nahh cant see it happening, if anything it will be a change of sport ( rallying, formula 1 ) a step down to WSBK doesnt really justify a 7 times world champion in the fastest motorcycle sport in the world.
