Andrea Dovizioso is tipped to take the place of fellow Italian Valentino Rossi at the factory Ducati MotoGP team next season.

It was officially confirmed on Friday that seven time MotoGP champion Rossi will return to Yamaha in 2013, having taken just two podiums from 27 starts on the Desmosedici.

According to the Italian media, including GPone.com and SportMediaset.it, Dovizioso has agreed a two-year deal to take over The Doctor's Ducati.

Dovi would ride alongside Nicky Hayden, who has already signed a new one-year contract extension.

Dovizioso replaced Hayden at the factory Honda team in 2009, where he went on to win one race and finish a best of third in last year's championship, but lost his Repsol seat when the team cut back from three to two riders.

The former 125c world champion thus switched to Tech 3 this year, where he has already scored four podiums - the most ever by a Tech 3 rider in a single season - and holds fourth place, as the leading satellite rider, in the world championship.

Dovizioso - who had never raced a Yamaha or 1000cc machine before this season - hoped such results would lead to a factory M1 ride for 2013, until Rossi's return was announced. Dovizioso's Tech 3 team-mate Cal Crutchlow had been strongly linked to a factory Ducati ride earlier in the year.

Once Hayden's team-mate is confirmed, it will mean that all six factory MotoGP seats for 2013 have been decided.

yup ,its official. the best source on the net tipped him to be there

no surprise really, a real confirmation will surely follow soon.

i just hope theres no extra thread on it

Now we will get to see how Dovi developes a bike.

The Dovi/Hayden relationship will be interesting, not sure how they will get along?

i think the sentence makes much more sense when you read it as " it is shame that he needs to choose between the two"

edit : oh and by the way i don't necessarily see it as just a pay thing. i think he earned enough to feed his family the next years at repsol, and i don't think the tech3 offers a good chance at winning races, especially not next year.

of course, the tech3 bike is better than the duc at the moment and the duc doesn't offer much chance at winning right now. but at least theres the chance of it improving to be competitive where as with the satellite yamaha you just know it will always be behind the factory machines (which on top of that are piloted by rossi(who will surely be treated better than spies) and lorenzo). if we are talking about race wins and championships a factory ride is the only real option and as i see it the factory seats are taken the next 2 years. perfect timing to take on a new challange, ride for the italian team, make yourself look real good for 2015 if you can tame the beast and on top of all that make yourself a rich man in the process.

but best of all the duc seat now does not bring any pressure with it like it used to. if dovi doesn't podium it , he won't be sent to the shrink , but if he can he will look like the real deal.if there is no new young gun that yamaha want to make into the next lorenzo i think dovi has a really good chance to land there when rossi retires

Very good post.

give up a better bike for a better paycheck? what shame? better bikes don't pay the bills as well as better paychecks. no? LMFAO!!!

When you're making X million a year and, in Dovi's case, are already set for life, the absolute size of your check starts to become somewhat irrelevant. Given the option, I'd much rather ride a T3 for 2~3 Mil than the Duc for 5.

Poor Dovi. He deserves better than that. He has ridden really well this year and I think would have earned the odd victory given a factory M1. We will never know... I don't think he is the right person for the Duke, however. To win on the Duke takes balls of steel - I have never seen the guy push to the extreme. But, I would love it if he proved me wrong. Good luck for next year, Andrea...

I have a question: Can we say the reason Stoner could win a title with the Duc was his unique riding style. I don't know if Ducati's front end history goes back before Stoner or not but the way Stoner (and somehow Pedrosa) rides he puts less load on the front end (Ducati's weak spot) and that was the reason he could manage its enormous power to gain the title. But Dovi is a different rider with a different style. A Master Hard Braker. A skill that puts a lot of pressure to the front end. How can Dovi help the Ducati when his strong point is the bikes weakest spot??

Again please inform me if I'm going wrong

Cheers

yes, those are very sensible points

but please dude, don't be so unsure about your posts. there are loads of people who don't know jack .... but spout their impressions/opinions as facts.not that i'm saying we should all be that way, but your thoughts/posts are just fine

trust!

then you must be the missing link tech 3 is looking for cuz they got 2 guys that would rather not! LMFAO!!!

Thanks Cliche for the helpful comment, Well the reasons I'm so careful about what I write are:

1) I'm following this sport from 2010, so in comparison to a lot of guys here I'm not that experienced.

2) English is my second language and I have difficulties saying my words the right way

But again Thanks
