Fans Sportsmanship at Races

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Jul 30 2009, 01:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I've found the Donington park crowd to be less respectful than i would hope every time i've been. I was at starky's this year and there were chears when Lorenzo crashed, taunting Stoner when he was at the back and of course the usual idiotic track invasion. Just a general lack of respect. I understand that fans are passionate about their riders doing well relative to the rivals but i think respect and appreciation of all the riders is a must.
I was at starkys and heard no cheers when jorge went down !. where you infield or out field ?

I`d agree with stopping the fans invading the track but as for a secret chortle at a fallen rider then I think we`ve all been guilty of that one for whatever reason.Don`t like it mind.

I noticed that this year, once the race had finished, the marshalls didn't try to stop people going under the fence to get to the podium. ususally they at least make an effort, maybe because it was the last one?
And you had to be on the track to have a chance of catching Toseland's boots when he threw them.

Being a former sports woman i would never laugh at anyones mis fortune. I too thought it was a disgrace that people cheered when jorge went down and it mainly came from the Rossi fans. I actually went oh .... when he went down because he's my 3rd favourite rider (rossi, Jt, JL, Ce). I suppose i support the team as well. The only times i performed well were the times when i was being pushed to my limits and I felt bad when rossi was then in the lead. A man of those talents sometimes needs someone to give him a run for his money and i think that is why this season he seems to enjoy victory more.

Karma came round later though didn't it. I never laughed at anyone not even stoner.

Those rosssi fans should feel ashamed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we jelled as stoner went down in brno 2008 but just because we desperately wanted rossi to win the championsip and stoner was so strong in 2007.

on sachsenring he guy next to me was a 48 year old guy from down under supporting stoner...he was delighted when stoner overtook rossi and when rossi retook his place we cheered AND apologized! hehe-....he said its ok, but the look on his face: priceless!
<

edit:

see it this way: if rider a goes down and i support rider b, im glad and show it cause rider b takes the POINTS!!! so i dont clap hands because of the first guy going down, but the other winning!

Starkeys outfield for me and I can't say I noticed too much cheering when Horhay went down. There was certainly some groaning and disappointment as people saw the chance of watching GOAT and Lorenzo going head to head in the flesh evaporating...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Bootsakah @ Jul 29 2009, 06:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I've only booed one rider in recent history. Kenan Sofouglu at Miller motorsports when he barged his way past Laverty on the last lap to take the win. I wouldn't have minded the pass that much but for the fact it came from a guy who bitched and moaned last year about the harsh passes made by Josh Hayes at Portimao.

a'men man. guess it's ok if it comes from him though huh? pfft. love to see when he gets stuffed now.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Gaz @ Jul 29 2009, 09:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>But, how do you know he wasn't injured - is it because he got up and continued riding?

And define a harmless lowside?

So, when do you find it funny - and when is in terms of the time at the incident?

Is it funny immediately or a few seconds after when the rider gets up to walk away - or days later when there is no bad news - when?

garry, i remember being at the nationals 2 years ago and mike D crashed hard at 180 mph going into turn on at roebling road. dude launched like 10 ft in the air and did like 10 flips, hit the ground and rolled what seemed like forever. we thought. no, we KNEW he was dead. 5 minutes later he comes walking out of the WOODS holding his wrist. broke it. that's it. (i'm sure he was bruised from head to toe though!)
next race, alex on a 600 lowsides at like 70 mph and does maybe one or two rolls on his side when he hits the grass. gets up and walks away. 30 minutes later he complains his neck hurts. hour later he is in the hospital with a broken neck and back.

some of the people on this board show their ... continuously. day after day. easy to pick out who knows anything about racing, and who are the mindless rossi fans.

It's easy to spot the bullshitters too!

I was on the big bank on the infield and their was a pretty noticable cheer from the Rossi fans. I'm surprised you couldn't hear it on the other side.

most on the outfield seemed gutted he went down and there were plenty of rossi and jt fans there.

I think some of you are being a bit over sensitive about this whole issue. I don't think anyone of us want to see anyone injured. Now I don't agree with cheering aloud when a rider goes down, but its part of the game and all the riders know it. This is an example of extreme unsportsmanlike conduct from fans. Hang in there for the breakdown of the video. If you have never seen this, it's crazy!

i think its odd that there would be such a divide in attitudes from the infield to the outfield. How odd
<
I thought it was really strange at the end of the race seeing all the fans dressed in JT gear chearing Rossi past their man.

who said i was a "racing instructor"?

I've had a great time laughing at Pedrosa going down in the past, but that was until last years Germany accident. Once I learned that his pit crew(Puig) was lying to him about 2nd place gaining I came back into reality into why I actually love and admire this sport (no need to explain, right?).

I've have never been to any races outside of the states, its just that I have never seen any ill will towards any rider out on the track from any other spectators. In fact it always seemed like the opposite. Yeah, Spies got alot of cheers at Miller this year, but there was excitement towards all the riders.

Thats not to say all sports is this way in the states. Go to a College Basketball or any Hockey game. The fans are soo f-n brutal that it makes Pinky's insults on Rossi, Hayden, and Jumkie's PM box look very light hearted and loveable.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>but why even waste the time and effort? i don't have time for that crap. i have kids, career and RIDING/RACING/INSTRUCTING to do. i enjoy wathcing the races. just wish i enjoyed more of the posting that goes on here

Probably because real race fans want to see close racing and Lorenzo is one of the best bets to push Rossi.
There was a fair bit of cheering for Dovi too, especially for him to hang on at the end, I think I was the only one cheering for Randy though.

You weren't the only one. I was cheering for Colin and Randy. They needed it more.

LOL you are so right about those types of Rossi fans. I will bet when he retires so will those fans. They don't care about the races and what it takes to be a GP racer. They like to worship their God and follow like sheep. They really are meaningless and don't count a race fans. They suck.
