Espargaro vs Brookes

I think you have it in a nutshell Gaz.

The asparagus brother has a legitimate safety concern.

He also over-rates himself, as he hasn't done all that much in motogp with signficant opportunities, which are probably more easily available to Spanish riders than those of other nationalities in the current motogp milieu, not that there is any evidence of which I am aware that Brookes would have done any better with similar opportunities.

Aleix clearly over-rates himself (IMO) and really does seem to have a passport advantage as for a guy to have over 200 races and only 2 podiums is not (IMO here before people jump up and down) a great investment.

We in this forum (and others) are often critical of riders such as Redding for example, but Redding has 18 podiums and 4 wins in his GP career (2 podiums in MotoGP compared to Aleix's 2 in total) and yet it is Redding that battles to maintain a ride.

As for Brookes', well he did finish top 3 in the World Supersports and I reckon could have made an ok shot with decent equipment at many categories (same for many riders), but to be fair, he is more a journeyman and that is what makes him interesting. He will ride BSB one weekend, Suzuka the next and then a road race even the next all on different machinery plus he will then often appear at a dirt event somewhere else and at no point does he try to pull ego (when local in Aus).

But you allude to something that should scare the living .... out of DORNA which is that few riders are coming from non European countries and making it to the GP classes which should be sending alarm bells as the talent is there, but the dollars to start buying rides to become noticed is not .

Aw. I dunno, Maggie. Maybe you can tell us all about what rod is best to weld 7020 T6? Please help, Casey and I wanna be engine-ears. Maybe Uccio can help?

Twitter...ffs

Hang on Doc, why not as that frostyj dude if he is a retired engineer as he may be able to help ........... nope wait, retired means that any opinion held is invalid.

As for Maggie, she seems to forget that it is Mika doing the work and Pol getting paid to race it

Yup it worked and thanks, seems there's a whole bunch on twatter with the same problem as Asparagus. So glad I don't do social media.

Same.

I saw it posted somewhere and remembered it as I figured that once Aleix's comments took off, given that CS was involved the other would light up as well but it escaped relatively as the general consensus where I saw it was 'Pol was unlucky' or 'Mika rides that track all the time' with a few subtle CS bash, but then to the other side as people said, CS said exactly what others have (including some ex-riders) so the thought is there.

Not a fan at all of social media but it does open the doors and for mine, the two Asparagus brothers responses are a telling insight given that near all riders will get criticism on social media, but few react in this manner and most have light hearted banter.

Brookes' is a bit of a known .... stirrer so I do really hope this doesn't stop him and while I don't always agree with what he has to say (post-Sepang/Pre Valencia) I hope the abuse he copped back does not stop him.

Actually it depends Razza gazza, was frosty an engineer long enough to receive a pension?

If I was a team manager and had the choice of rider between Brookes and Espargaro, it would be Brookes by a mile, he can be an arsehole but he gets results and in BSB this year aboard the Anvil Yamaha he's outperforming the 'official' Yamaha team pairing of James Ellison and Michael Laverty both of who are points scorers in MotoGP.

I remember watching that, he had a few rash incidents in his early days, he had one at Cadwell and forced Rutter to crash and pretty much ruin both their seasons. I cringed when I heard he was making his TT debut but I'd like to think that his experiences there have turned him into a less crazy rider with a bit more respect to his fellow competitors.

On another note that race in the clip was in 2009, it feels way more recent than that, where's the time going?

Brookes reminds me (at least on track) as a young Sheene, but not knowing him and his mouth antics, I expect thats where the similarity ends. But he certainly seems to ooze capability in comparison to the Asparagus boys, (I wonder why Dorna haven't crashed their boat)
In fact Aleix record is abysmal take a look at this;
Aleix Espargaro
and Aleix Espargaro
What is he doing in MotoGP?

Man are people mean. I would never.

Awakward when a guy that took early retirement tells other racers they need to step up

You're attitude doesn't improve Mr Stoner, what bike have you ever developed from scratch...

Perfectly acceptable comments from a couch errr I mean coach.

I notice noone ever tells Pedrosa to step it up. That would be considered a racial hate crime

Brutal. Nice hearing announcers not candy coat the commentary.
I wonder if any of them were allowed to restart

Race was called (from memory) and most (maybe all) of the fallers excluded.

If memory is right, Andrews (the guy knocked down) had, until that point not won a race and was considered to be one of the nice guys so near all were willing him the win.

As for the commentators, non-sugar coating is good but (IMO and bias as the victim of their commentary was an Aussie), they were also bias as all f*ck when you listen to other commentary when other riders f*cked up as big (Brookes was deserving that year as he was a loose cannon)

Ah Josh Brookes, that well known multi world champion who has dominated BSB for years. Why would a Motogp rider even respond to his crap? The guy has his hands full enough with Shakey, Ellison, and the other one with the famous dad who had big sideburns without calling out GP riders. Fanny. (UK meaning)

Ah, but you're forgetting Pete - he also had Hopper to contend with.

Brookes isn't out of line. He is a racer and would ride any machine you offer at any track.
Espargro is a whinging .... that always complains and has dummy spits.
I don't rate him as a championship contender, although he is a brilliant rider, he's no Motogp champ

Yes you are correct, Brookes would ride any bike at any track worse than Aliex who has had some very impressive results, overachieving in many instances on lesser equipment, in the highest level of bike racing in the world.
