European health authorities are angry with Ducati over their continued use of tobacco

sponsorship which was banned in 2005. However Ferrarri and Ducati have continued

to accept sponsorship - using the Marlboro barcode in place of the traditional triangle

shaped logo. European authorities are insisting that the current barcode is subliminal

advertising." "If you look at how their barcode logo has evolved over the last four years,

it looks like creeping branding." said John Britton, fellow of the UK's Royal College of

Physicians, which advised governments of on health issues. The Swiss based company's

current contract with both expires as the end of 2011.

Personally - I don't see how a barcode could be construed as subliminal advertising.

I've been seeing the damned thing all along and never made any connection between

it and Marlboro and I used to smoke the damned things.

That's an interesting statement, because Rossi does have issues with tobbacco sponsorship, he brought a lot of his own sponsorship with him to Yam, perhaps Ducati are hoping he can do the same for them.........mmmmmmmmmmmm a blue Ducati maybe

So perhaps some of the rumours are true.

Yes, my last girlfriend was clearly a smoker.

so who has been sponsoring rossi on the m1?gauloises ,camel.....i get really upset when i hear rossi isn't in favour of tobacco ads.that would imply that one of my heros is a ....... sell-out.

wait a minute.was he ever sponsored by a tobacco company when he was not riding the m1?

well except of course the beer advertising on his first honda, but hey alcohol in racing is ok isn't it?i really can't see ducati letting marlboro go just because rossi has anyting against them (and as i said,i highy doubt he has).but of course you can't underestimate how many sponsors would like to be on the ducati rossi rides. i really don't get why they ban tobacco ads in the first place if you bear in mind that all they basically did was switch to alcohol and sportsbets, just as stupid in my opinion

man i wish somebody had the balls to run a 4:20 Marc Emerey sponsored duc that looks like a blunt for that matter

For 2011 - I'd love to see a RED Ducati with a white panel and the characters F-I-A-T with Rossi on board

just logged in not googled it but there's news out that fiat/aka ferrari etc are going to the Duck 2011

and petronas are replacing fiat at yam

mcn

Yamaha will approach Far Eastern fuel giant Petronas to takeover as its title sponsor if Fiat quits with Valentino Rossi.

As well as losing prized asset Rossi, the latest rumour is that cash-strapped Yamaha will also lose Fiat as title sponsor.

The Italian car giant, which owns Ferrari, could move with the nine-times world champion to Ducati as an associate backer alongside tobacco giant Marlboro.

I was wondering the state of that deal, seems a little ominous for Yamaha, maybe we could end up with the 'Chupa Chump Yamaha Factory team'!!!

as long as petronas step up they'll have no problems. petroleum backing is a much better & stable sponsor imho.... besides fiat make junk anyway!
