Guys, I've been noticing the fight between Dovi and Lorenzo since the 250 cc days. Even with an underpowered Honda, he was able to put up some good fight with Lorenzo. The problem is, fate seems to have him ride a less powered machine compare to Lorenzo. BUT he is more consistent than Lorenzo. Lorenzo is a very very talented rider, pole in his debut - won in his 3rd race, but somehow he just can't keep it going,in other words he is not consistent enough. What do you guys think, what would happen between the two of them if Dovi does make it to HRC next year ?
And back to the poll, I think Dovi will slightly -not much- has the upper hand than Lorenzo if he does make it to HRC next year.

I voted Dovi ....... which is stupid since I have Lorenzo down as a WC possible at the beginning of the year ......... thats it I'm dropping Lorenzo after Laguna .... Dovi is now my new man!

Difficult poll as I rate both highly.
Ended up voting Dovi because he usually had the better of Lorenzo on tracks where horsepower didn't matter as much. And as Nicky Hayden showed, consistency goes a long way.
If Dovi gets that HRC seat (which I assume he will) I expect a good and fairly equal battle between them.

However that is not the battle I look forward to most. I expect Dani to have a real whine next year as Dovi gets along with that 800cc Honda way better than Nicky. And I think Dani might be in for a nasty surprise.

Dovi was better until 05, although Lorenzo had already showed more raw speed. Since then Lorenzo has had the measure of Andrea on every level, only now are things looking close and I still think Jorge will take rookie of the year.

i voted dovi as well. not only do i think he is the more consistent rider, but i think after all of these spills on lorenzo's part, it might slow him down significalty for a long time to come. that high side at lauguna has GOT to be messing with his head right now. and to make matters worse, he has a LONG time to sit and dwell on it.

Or a much needed break to get over it. The battle that seemed so one sided earlier this year is shaping up to be another great story line for the season, and it would be huge for Dovi to pull it off. The second half of the season will be interesting for both riders, and the result could have a lasting effect on their mentalities approaching next season.

i voted yes too. dovi IMO would shade chuppa chump in the equal machinery battle and he also wins the gayness award too for his effeminate headgear on the grid.....

IMO, Lorenzo may looked bad now, but I am sure he will gain his confidence back, he was a champion and he knows how to make it work. I myself of course voted for Andrea Dovizioso

Lorenzo is better because he crashes more. I think it was Jerry Burgess who said it is easier to teach a rider (who goes too fast and crashes) to slow down than to teach a slow rider to go fast. I don't think Dovi is slow. But, is he pushing the limits of the bike? Rossi and Stoner crashed quite a bit in the their rookie years in 500cc/MotoGP.

Both are good even more that good riders they young, and i see one of them winning a championship in the comming seasons, i've always followed Dovi since the 125 cc, last seasions i was Dovi follower, he stand against Lorenzo on the Honda and he did good, i cant wait to see him next year in the Factory Honda
<
, right now i see Dovi better than Lorenzo.

I really like both riders but I voted for Lorenzo. Dovi has been consistently quick all season on the customer Honda and I expect him to be a consistent podium finisher when he moves to the Repsol team for 2009. But when Lorenzo isn't injured, he's shown pure brilliance. I don't think I've ever seen this sort of speed out of a rookie. But as has been said, he's been crashing a lot lately and his results have been inconsistent. The flashes of brilliance still do it for me, nod goes to Jorge.

I rate them both highly, but I think Lorenzo just has the edge, he has that killer instinct to go for the wins, he's faster and takes more risks, he just needs more experience, Dovi is more consistant and appears to be more careful.
It's a bit like a tortoise and hare thing, Lorenzo took a huge early lead over Dovi in spectacular fashion at the beginning of the season, but has hit problems with injuries and confidence problems, whilst Dovi has just been plodding on racking up points nearly every race, thing is I can't see him overtaking Lorenzo. I think after the summer break, a fully healed Lorenzo with the advantage of a factory bike will finish the season well.
If Dovi does go to HRC next year, it will be interesting to see how they do on comparable machinery, but I still think Lorenzo is better.

Dovi for me, he won the 125cc world championship and then had an inferior machine to Lorenzo in 250 but still managed to impress everyone.

The guy was loyal to Honda and should get a factory ride.

Dovi is only marginally better than or equal to Gayden on equal equipment. We all know how big of a failure Gayden is, so Dovi is completely out of the question. Lorenzo is the only choice in this poll.

Who was the last rookie to play second fiddle to Rossi? I think he won something once. I can't remember his name, I think they marked him out of the history books, but I remember he ended up better than the 250 Italian who landed on a Honda satellite ride.

Better meaing what?

Better at playing it safe and not crashing: Dovi
Better at winning races: Lorenzo
Better at doing well on a non-factory bike: Dovi
Better at the possibility of winning a championship: Lorenzo
Better at post race celebrations: Lorenzo

For me, its Lorenzo. He still has a lot to learn, as all his crashing this year is proof of this. His crash at Laguna was a direct result of him not realizing the poorly chosen Michelin's needed time to warm up before he made a quick pass. For this reason you can say Dovi is better, and I think probably the wiser of the two. But this is racing, and winning is the goal, Lorenzo has proven he is faster. I will however agree with the others, I'd like to see how Dovi does on the HRC team.

Lorenzo's proven he's super quick on factory bikes, Dovi's proven he's very quick on non-factory bikes. Put Dovi on a factory honda and he'll beat Lorenzo - providing repsol honda pull their finger out and sort their bike for someone other than Pedrosa.
