Dovi to Gresini...?

Somebody has to say it...and I miss Marco. But, what are Gresini, gonna do for 2012?

Given Fausto's need for an Italian rider and Dovi's podium potential / familiarity with the Honda, can / will Dovi break his contract with Monster and Tec3? Without a high profile, podium contending name, Gresini will not be able to afford a Honda. So, either he picks up 2 Aprilia CRTs and a Moto2 Italian or he gets the only viable rider and keeps Honda.

Dovi has good reasons too. He'd get to stay on a winning bike with a great team. He'd also keep that Red Bull money. In all actuality, a MoU or a contract with out clauses is what was really signed. If he were official, why haven't we heard about Honda releasing him or Yam planning his 1000cc test?

Tec 3 could also benefit. Hopper is a fast rider with big Monster backing, is still unsigned and no longer needed in WSBK (Camier just went to Crescent Suzuki). He'd probably ride for dirt cheap and bring in more sponsor money to Herve, which I'm sure is desperately needed.

Bautista is allegedly willing to stay and Rizla even on the 800cc. And if Suzuki do stay, there is no chance they'll have 2 bikes.

If Dovi doesn't go to Gresini / HRC... the paddock will be in total disarray until March. Despite all the flack he might take...he'd could be hurting the sport by not supporting Fausto.

Hi clarky, good to see you posting.

I think Dovi is going to Tech3, that's done. The question is, who will ride for Gresini? Remember I texted you about Gidl skydiving with Hoppper? Well he asked him about his future, and he said he was still waiting on word from Suzuki. But...he also said waiting on Honda. Though he didn't give much more detail. I'm starting to get more worried about where Hopper will appear next year. I personally think he's still underrated despite the sublime performance he put into BSB.

Has Dovi actually signed for Tech3 ? If not i think its a dead cert he willgo to Grsini.

If there was an announcement and a press release, then something has been signed. At the very least, a letter of intent. Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden have both gotten out of letters of intent. Colin signed a letter of intent with Fila Ducati for 2003 and the stipulation of them releasing him from it was that he didn't come back to World Superbike. Nicky signed a letter of intent with Yamaha MotoGP for 2003 and I think he had to pay some real money to get out of it to go sign with Repsol Honda.

With all that said, I'd say it's theoretically possible Dovi could get out of Tech 3, but not likely. If he's only signed a letter of intent, he's probably looking at buying his way out of it, and with the Monster's prominence in that team and the ruthless nature of the energy drink game, there could be some stipulations about not being able to endorse other energy drinks. If he really wanted out, I would think it would be a very expensive proposition. Which leads me to believe that Dovi is staying put.

As far as what happens with Gresini, it's hard to say. Kropotkin has mentioned they could go with two CRTs and that seems very possible. Without Simoncelli, who knows what kind of support and financial backing will be pulled from Honda. Whether they could afford to lease an RC213V, factory spec or otherwise, without some form of support from HRC seems to be a legitimate question.

If they do get their RC213V, then I think the same names that are linked to LCR are now linked to Gresini. Bautista, de Puniet, and Hopkins. But it all comes back to sponsorship and support from Honda, in my opinion.

I shouldn't be giving away my scheme...but I'm hoping a "celebrity" poster puts the idea on FRONT street. D, sometimes just putting the words out there forces people to accept then act on reality.

Dovi is a great rider with a huge amount of pride (too too too much!). IMO, He'd never ask, but he also wouldn't refuse the ride.

People are so torn up, they aren't looking to the future. Last week, Fausto even said he wouldn't be at Valencia. If Rossi can manage so well after witnessing (and taking part in) the DEATH of one of his best buddies ... surely Fausto, Dovi and Honda can pull their heads up.

As far as contracts...we don't really know what's going on. But, who is gonna play hardball at a time like this?

Generally, contracts run until Dec 31. So Monster & Yam probably don't have Dovi until Jan 1. Honda may use that leverage.

WTF, nevermind. Krop beat me too it b4 I even asked. Mind you, it's a footnote when it should be a headline

Good points Austin. suppose we will have to wait and see.

I don't think Dovi gets back on the Honda and he's in a good position now. We all know what he's capable of and there may be much better options for next year depending on how the transition to the 1000s goes. The latest statements from Dovi on the loss of his rival are truly inspiration

“I'm very sad for the loss of Marco," said Dovizioso. "I'm going to Valencia not in the right frame of mind for a race. I will wear Marco's number 58 on the chest of my leathers, close to my heart, this is the only thing that counts.

"I have raced with Marco throughout my whole career, he was 'the rival' and now that he is no longer with us, he has left a big void and I want to convert this feeling of emptiness to determination."

Gresini will be at the races

“The decision to participate was not an easy one, but we have made this choice as it is what Marco would have wanted,” said Gresini. “Going out on track at Valencia is definitely the best way to honour him by doing what he most loved to do: Ride and experience the world of MotoGP.

“This is why I believe that the best show of affection that we can make to Marco is by lining up our teams and riders for this race. 'Super Sic' will be present in the hearts of Hiroshi Aoyama, Michele Pirro and Yuki Takahashi, and I am sure that they will give him a most fitting tribute with their performances on Sunday.”

Dovi has been a bit lost in much of the eulogizing, but I thought he was probably somebody that was hurt most by the tragedy. When Dovi left Honda for Tech3, my respect for the man doubled. He did something that I wish Nicky would have done.

Text sent.

Go to Yamaha?

Dovi has commented that the smoothness of the Yamaha, he feels, will be a better suit to his riding style. IMO he remains with his current deal to ride with Tech 3. Honda has always been intent about having a Japanese rider on their machine, but there aint much pickins for those boys these days. It's a tough deal for Gresini, but I'm sure it'll be a surprise when the news is solid.

Tech3 could be a good career move for dovi. If the Yam does suit him and he out rides spies on the factory yam there could be a factory ride the following year for him.

Hmmm.... I believe the chances of that are slim to none... I'll be impressed if he does better than Edwards over the past few years. In fact if Collie was still there I'd bet $100 that he'd finish ahead of Dovi.

Well he's never going to get a Honda factory seat again is he, so he may as well move to a place he at least has a chance

Hey I'm all for that. I just don't see him unseating either of the factory Yam riders... then again come 2013 we may have a different landscape altogether...

Why, when a team is looking for a rider, especially an Italian rider, is Marco Melandri always left out of the conversation. Is he toxic in the GP paddock.I can understand him and Ducati never hooking up again, but he seems a natural for some of the other rides. Is he not a marketable Italian any longer.

Good question pov. Personally i'd love to see him back. Getting Biaggi back could be fun.
