Dovi might be leaving Ducati

I dont know if there is a fit for him in WSB, the Kawasaki and Ducati seem to be the only bikes worth riding, but those teams seemed locked in with their riders.

Aprillia might be an option in Motogp, though maybe not ideal

You all are high. Dovi replacing Pedrosa at Honda is a sideways move at best and more than likely a backwards move. Besides that , why risk ....... up the chemistry of a team that has won riders and constructors titles almost every year of it existence. Honda s just floating Dovi’s name to get Pedrosa cheap and Dovi is looking for a pay raise that Honda won’t be willing to pay. Dani rides for around 3 mil and unless Suzuki offers considerably more which I doubt, Honda can continue on with him for the same money while Dovi is looking for twice that. Why would you pay twice the amount to try and get a result that you already own. Sign Dani for two years and if Mir keeps progressing to the point to where he is a contender in Moto2, you pre sign him to a factory contract to replace Dani for 2021. If Mir really explodes on the scene you give him a third factory bike ala Crutchlow to lock him in

Swap Dani and cal.
And in a year realize that cal is full of hot air and replace him with Mir.

Then Marquez camp protests and leaves for Ducati.

Two years and no wins later, markie mark’s dad with a girl’s name starts shopping around. Maybe a Yamaha seat will be available at that point.

Why would the Marquez camp protest either one of those riders.

Maybe - maybe not. If Dovi is looking at his prime years passing quickly by, and he's not getting the money or the bike he needs at Ducati, and Honda offers him a better payday, it's more than a lateral move. He knows how the Hondas handle and if he makes more money to put aside before retiring, why not. Not as if there is any superior alternative.

Knowing that - might push Ducati to improve their offer. What does he have to lose?

there could be more to the deal then just money... length of the deal, training expenses, merchandising opportunities, and other options.

I agree with Holypuck on this one. For all of the possible reasoning behind who is going where, then Dovi and Ducati is by far the one choice that makes the most sense.
Whilst I get there will be certain aspects of the negotiations that are a stumbling block, there needs to be some compromise and clearly Horhay's huge salary has been an influence on things.
I hope they sort it out. I love seeing a competitive Duc' on the grid again and seeing Dovi becoming a regular winner after the amount of time he's done in the big the class has been great too.

In terms of all the possible moves, I would really like to see Dani on the Suzuki with some old school 250 fast cornering. I just get the vibe it would work for him.

I agree with several of the things you wrote, but I reckon we must take into account that we will never know a good 70% of what happens in the teams when the doors are closed. I think something happened in Ducati and I think it's not strictly related to money. It's a team fully composed of Italians after all, we are good at being drama queens :D:D:D

From the recent Italian interviews of Ciabatti, Dall'Igna and Dovi (3 extremely chilled lads), it's very obvious that there is a certain tension in the team. There's been tensions also between Dovi and Jorge but that is natural.

Also Marquez in the latest press conference stated that he'd like to have Dovi as a team mate, why on earth would he say that if he didn't know that that is a possible scenario for 2019?

Because the opposite is to say 'no, I do not think that the Honda would suit Dovi' and look like a total classless ........ (reads harsher than intended btw).

To say anything but positive comments lowers him in terms of public perceptions so really, when asked, very few riders would say anything other than 'I would like to have him as a team mate'.

As for knowing it is a possible scenario, well the way I look at it is that there is a contract ending and it is silly season time so you do not need to know what is happening to be able to answer in the affirmative when asked.

Oh I forgot to mention.

I know for sure that Ducati's interest (as they will replace at least 1 of their 2 current riders) is addressed to Iannone and Cal.

You want my 2 cents? Ducati shall do all they can to keep Dovi and put a young gun, very not-primadonna next to him. Miller would be a good option.

But last time I checked, I didn't work for Ducati :D

Cuntslow won't go back to Ducati,he's already been there, failed ,and bought himself out of one contract.

As I said, possibilities I wonder about are their funding from VW being drastically cut or VW unloading Ducati entirely hence uncertainty about their financial status and consequent lowballing Dovi by their recent standards, and by current Jorge standards in particular.

Ducati is kinda interested in him tho, this I can assure you.

I'll take your word for it as you seem better informed than me,can't imagine why though,he's shown he can't ride it as did Rossi,Dovi has shown he can ride the Ducati and deserves a better deal especially in light of what Lorenzo's getting, so surely they will pay him his due and he will stay?

First off, I reckon they would be stupid ............... but .............

Stupid as it sounds, but for me look at Miller's results as a guide.

IMO, Cal and Jack are two very similar riders in a number of ways and Jack has taken to the bike like a (pun intended) Duck to water when you compare his performances on the Honda's.

His times are better, he is more consistent and so forth which shows that the bike is a better ride than is the Honda and whilst Cal does fall, he is no slouch and can produce results. Heck, he has more wins than any non factory team rider out there so yes, he may be a little unlikable to some but there should be little doubt about what he can produce.

My bet is that Cal is playing games to up his dollar value to Honda but trying to have options. Ducati will give up one (at least) of their current riders so will need someone and maybe they are looking afield of Jack/Petrucci as they may not want them or maybe they are getting a safety first. Basically, they may be hedging that both their current riders go so why not test the market

Regarding VW I think the difficulties that you are referring to are over. I read a while ago that their shares had recovered in value (wish I'd bought some) so I cant see that withdrawing support from Ducati moto gp is a matter of urgency.
Also I really hope Dovi stays with them as he's the best Duke rider by a mile. There isn't really another to take his place at the moment.

I hope Dovi does stay with Ducati. The contract talks might well be a bit touchy because of the existing salaries and returns on those salaries. I agree that there isn't another that can take Dovi's place at Duc at the moment.

I do wonder what JLo will do next year... Should Suzuki bin off Ianone when he's podiumed twice in the last 2 races? What if JLo goes to some other manufacturer (Suzuki or KTM or whatever) and the same thing happens as happened at Ducati?

Well in total honesty the whole point of this thread from my side is: "I heard these things and I can't ....... believe them, but the sources I heard them from are quite reliable, so let's gather together and talk about how much we don't believe/understand the things I heard" :D:D
