Easy - the 'if you can't take the .... we dish out, you aren't worthy' ethic of  number of people here.

Which is, of itself quite funny, because if they get even a modicum of the ..... they throw at others, they just explode in outrage.

Before I started posting I read through a lot of threads (spare time on my hands...) and the number of 'newish' members that were just plain hounded out by a cabal of members for having the temerity to voice an opinion is really surprising.

I have to agree with this. I personally have a pretty thick skin and can roll with the net.punches with a grin on my face. But I have to agree with BJC that there are some one here who can dish it out, but can't take it. And I can see that some newbies might pull a Stoner and leave.

It's also a classic thing on some forums that established members have some sort of socially protected status and a forum will rise up against any newbie who dares call them a hermaphrodite for liking the graphics on Rossi's new bike. While established members can call someone a .... because this someone posted an argument that the established member has no answer for, and the Greek chorus will applaud the established member for 'pwning' the newbie.

I do think there are a few on here who act a bit more like the cliquey high school 'Mean Girls' of the film, probably even down to wearing the same underwear.

We have a daily PM about Lyria's underwear - is that the same?

Sure there are. At one time or another, that's what we all are like.AnnoyingTwit

Than is then there own personal shortcoming. In life, you are bound to run into people who have opinions that differ from yours, people who's style of debating differs from yours and may even be offensive to you, and people who simply do not care about your opinions. Unlike real life, on the net you have the advantage that you can always choose to simply not engage and ignore these people. There's even a functionality to help you with that.AnnoyingTwit

I sense quite a bit of 1 ) paranoia and 2 ) need for social approval here.

First, no one enjoys a 'socially protected' status. Take it from someone who has been engaged in, often quite heated debates and arguments with many well established and generally respected members since he started posting here (to name a just few: chopper, jumkie, michealm, Kropotkin, mylexicon, cliche, many others). Nobody is beyond reproach. No one's stopping you or anyone else from waging a war of words with any other member. Just be prepared to stand up for yourself, don't expect an army of white knights to step in and dry your tears when you get your feelings hurt. It's all just opinions floating around on the web, you know.

Second, there is no evil, homogenous powerslide community that "will applaud the established member for 'pwning' the newbie". There is just a loose collective of individual posters. Even an obvious trolling nut like cuckoo did not really manage to unite the other powersliders in their dislike for him, let alone that it happens to more reasonable posters.AnnoyingTwit

You're not in high school anymore.

It's hard to deny that I felt Cockoo crossed a line with comments relating to Simoncelli's death & Stoner. While I don't agree with Stoner's comments, Cockoo went too far. I would have done the same thing if it were my forum.

Stop being gay. First of all, don't let this post sting, as you already should have figured out you and I are friends.  And I honestly mean that Goaty, I genuinely like, respect, and appreciate you on this forum.  But brotha, come-the-....-on.  All you homos lining up to applaud the banning are mostly full of double standards.  He deff got tiresome, and as I said, I'm ok with his banning.  But I think Bridman nailed it when he said, it was more about saving us from ourselves, for this I agree with Ben's decision.  It wasn't enough for you guys to have an ignore button, you needed more intervention.  We have all crossed the line on a lot of stuff.  Cookoo just didn't have the redeeming qualities most of us have, like Scotty, Viper7, Jauod, supershitya, Pinky and such.   :)  (All of which eventually went away after their brief onslaught, probably because people didn't go around pandering to their every post and actually learned to 'ignore' them.)  SuperSic, please.  Give me a break, go back and read the first couple of weeks after his death on the forum.  And Stoner?  Good God man, he has been the whipping boy for many.  Calling him a coward was the least offensive I've read on Stoner.  Don't even invoke his Hilter reference my friend or you're gonna make me look up the pic YOU posted that invoked everybody's go-to german evil-doer to make a point, comparing yourself the persecuted Jews because you were a bopper.  Oops, did you forget that?  I'm sure you remember as people got on your case. You want to talk about people "crossing the line"?   I'm your huckleberry.

Fark me you are on form lately good sir! ;)

CB had his day (or days) in the sun,  and whilst the trolling was initially amusing for its nonsense, it was the repetition and lack of imagination that deserved censure.

I think the word is  tiresome.              For that alone , banishment was essential....................

Reminds me of the time that MCN forums were riddled with spam. It was not worth the effort to search for things of value in a sea of pee.   Same thing here.  Thanks Ben.

I agree,  I did not want him banned and have never called for anyone to be banned, but the posts were getting very repeititive even though it was obviously open to everyone to choose not to reply to them.

Damn Goaty ya shoulda stayed quiet... now he's gonna dredge up old .... we're all over and write a bandwidth crushing essay... kinda like his banging on about the inequalities in MGP which he hasn't let go of for six and a half freakin' years! Challenge to Jumkie: find us a pure, favouritism-free sport on which you think MGP should be modelled. That I may read all the way through, but I doubt it!
